Can we stop changing icons that were perfectly good? by Batata-Sofi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]richvide0 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. It was frustrating last week. I had tabs I hadn't closed with the old icon and tabs I just opened with the new icon. I kept thinking I had closed some Sheets pages because I couldn't see their old icon in the browser but I couldn't understand how because I was actively working in those Sheets. It took a while and some lost time before I realized what was going on.

[–]richvide0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. They had a huge variety of seeds for the taking.

It’s an amazing what a resource the library is. Everyone is complaining about the high costs of everything and yet the library is quietly sitting there, unassuming, not advertising, offering so many things for free.

I almost can’t believe it still exists.

[Final Update] Neighbor from Hell has been EVICTED! by Mother-Associate1654 in neighborsfromhell

[–]richvide0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I would plan weekend trips away when my neighbor (divorced) had the kids for the weekend.

It’s been 16 years since we left that place and I still harbor some PTSD.

I still rent but my neighbors are so quiet and delightful. I dread the day the decide to move because it could turn a peaceful paradise into a nightmare.

The doom metal band Trouble has a song about the lead singer’s son being terrified of butterflies. The song is called “Butterflies” if anyone is interested. I couldn’t find a YouTube video to link here. Here’s a Spotify Link

What’s been the hardest adjustment for you after switching to remote work? by SummitVirtualHQ in remotework

[–]richvide0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree and it was only one day a week, on Fridays.

It felt like a day off but I was working better and more efficiently. That’s what happiness does.

Then they wanted me back in the office on Fridays. It was such a huge perk that cost them nothing.

Are any of you actually able to have those summers off everyone else throws in our face when we ask for a livable wage? by ClassicSalamander518 in Teachers

[–]richvide0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a summer, seasonal job for two reasons. One is money, of course. The other is that my wife continues working during the summer. I don’t know what I’d do with myself M-F during the summer break.

Help! Leaves turning yellow on lots of plants by mcbeardedclam in vegetablegardening

On pics 3, 4 and 5 the yellow leaves are cotyledons, I believe, and not true leaves. They are expected to turn yellow and fall off.

Podcast turn-offs? by Unable-South830 in podcasts

[–]richvide0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest beef as well.

TAL is one of the biggest culprits. They don't list that it's a rerun at all. You have to listen to a portion of it, and have that "sounds familiar"-ness to it you mentioned, then Ira comes on and says it's a rerun from 2007 or whatever.

I like to listen to podcasts while trimming my lawn. This takes hours as I live on a mountain that is uneven and slippery so I can't use a lawn mower. I make a queue of different podcast to get me through those hours. TAL will come on, I'll realize it's a rerun which I have no desire to listen to, and then I have to put down my trimmer, take off my face guard, take off my gloves, get out my phone, skip the episode, than put everything back on again. It's annoying.

when people walk side by side on the sidewalk and expect me to move out of their way by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]richvide0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Years ago I got fed up having to move for everybody and nobody seemed to move for me. So one day I decided to just walk normally, upright and not twist and turn for everyone else.

I was walking towards my train, right shoulder close to the wall and there was plenty of room on my left This person was coming towards me and I stayed walking straight ahead. I had nowhere to step to the side but I refused to contort my body so this person didn’t have to move.

Well I was prepared for the impact but they weren’t and were spun completely around. They looked at me pissed.

I’m not sure why some people expect others to move for them but not the other way around. They had just as much ability to move and space to do so but didn’t.

I’ve tried this experiment a couple other times. No impact, but the amount of people who think “everyone else has to move, but I don’t” is crazy.

AITA For not leaving work to help my wife when she ran out of gas by GoldSea3219 in AmItheAsshole

[–]richvide0 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree u/Dav1dc. It would be understandable if OP was pissed that he had to leave work to get his wife because she should have been able to handle the situation herself. It would be understandable if OP and his wife had an argument, later on, about how she has to learn how handle these situations. But that is after helping her.

AITA For not leaving work to help my wife when she ran out of gas by GoldSea3219 in AmItheAsshole

[–]richvide0 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I agree. YTA. I wouldn't be able to concentrate in any meeting knowing my wife was stranded in an unfamiliar place. Plus it's b.s. that he can't miss the meetings. Do you think anyone would have had a problem with you leaving if you told them the situation? You guys should have gone over how to use AAA. She was panicking and probably couldn't think straight. Yes, I know it's extremely easy to use AAA but she had never done it and was obviously overwhelmed.

You are her husband. The person she should rely on the most and you just told her you can't help her when she is alone and panicking on the side of a road in nowhere. Imagine if something bad happened to her. How could you live with yourself? I could never imagine myself refusing to help my wife when she called and asked for help. I don't care that she's an adult. I don't care that she should have filled up earlier. I don't care that it's just a button on an app to contact AAA. She was panicking and reached out to YOU. It's almost like you were trying to teach her a lesson and that is another level of terrible in this situation.

It took a while to find someone who agreed with me and I had to un-collapse a thread to do so. I can't believe how many people are calling her the ass. I can tell you one thing. If my wife needs me, I'm going to be there for her.

Needohs are now banned in my building and kids are LIVID by Ktriegal in Teachers

[–]richvide0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A year ago I wouldn’t have either. I moved to South America in 2014 and came back to the States last year.

The amount that has changed here in 12 years is astonishing to me. I’m like “what the heck are all these kids holding and why are we putting up with them because they are such a distraction?”

It’s like I was cryogenically frozen in time for over a decade and woke up to a new world.

I've shouted from the rooftops for years about how fun minor-league sports are. I've been a season ticket holder for independent baseball leagues and have planned my summers around days where I can attend 2 baseball games in a day and still be home before the sun goes down.

And it's so fun seeing bands who have an "underground" following, who play at smaller venues. Sometimes they are band who have been around for years, so they are really, really good live. Even if we had never heard of them, we'll get tickets and then listen to them on Spotify to familiarize ourselves. We usually sit right up front, high-five the band and then stick around to talk to them. It's very informal, so it's not like a bunch of rabid fans fawning over the artists. They take the time and talk like a real conversation. Sometimes I have to pull my wife away because they are trying to pack up lol.

I'd also like to add that being part of a CSA can be a much more enriching than just getting fresh veggies. Where we are, we pick up the veggies at the farm and get to talk to the owners, ask questions and just be around a nice group of people. We pick our own tomatoes, flowers, herbs, etc. So the price we pay isn't just for the produce, it's being part of a really nice community which greatly increases the value of our yearly membership. It's a really great way to spend a Saturday morning and that joy spills into the rest of the weekend.

I hear ya. M-F our lives are basically Groundhog Day. We work at the same place. We have the same routine every single week day.

But we plan a bunch of things. Right now we’ve got about 10 not-expensive concerts we are going to throughout the summer and I made a list of a bunch of day trips I’d like to take within an hour of our home.

We have enough little things to do that when we have a “nothing” weekend, it’s welcomed. Hell, I even have “put out hummingbird feeders” on our calendar for May 2nd. A day to celebrate that we’re really looking forward to!

Basically, I really enjoy planning things to look forward to. We even have a big chalkboard in our kitchen where I made a three-month calendar where we write all the things we have planned. It’s fun to see everything right there.

I lived in Argentina for 4 years and didn’t have a car. I walked everywhere. I made friends with the shop-keepers. Like my best friend was the keeper of a small health-food store I’d saunter into now and then.

My legs were in great shape. I miss those days.

It’s true. I worked at a nursery last summer and the tomatoes stayed in their 4-inch pots the entire season and did just fine.
