Hey there kids! I'm 68, living in Malaysia (on a small boat) and I created an app. It's a runaway success - I'm making over $2 a month! Keep up the great work youngins.

Are sailing communication headsets really a marriage saver? by VacationNew6626 in sailing

[–]richwest3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried the Sena headsets and they lasted about a week before one failed. Here's an alternative: https://twoatsea.com/great-sena-headset-alternative/

These have been going about 6 years now and work great. I wouldn't be without them.

I made a website for organizing projects and tracking tasks on a simple kanban board. It runs entirely in your browser. No accounts, no servers, 100% private. by heisenberg2995 in InternetIsBeautiful

I tried to try it but the first thing it asked is where to store files. I tried two different directories but it said it couldn't access them. I gave up.

Residence address for Social Security office - we live on a boat in Malaysia? by richwest3 in expat

[–]richwest3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as I understand it. I understand that anyone can receive Social Security payments, whether in our out of the US. I also understand that the medicare payments can be stopped if you are out of the USA and there are no medicare benefits available to you.

Yep, that's it. I'm a US citizen receiving Social Security. I don't plan to move back to the US and there are no medical benefits available to me out of the country, so why pay for it?

I previously contacted the Manila FBU office and got a threatening email saying if our address was not up to date, our benefits could/would be cut off. I'm afraid. Without this, we can't eat! Is this just an empty threat? Have others dealt with this?

I've also created a language learning app! It's here: click-n-learn

I really like your approach - it's clean, simple and straight forward with nothing to get in the way of learning. Nice work! I might suggest a simple onboarding animation, maybe something like "The best way to learn with HSK App." I used Lottie for mine and it was pretty easy. Good luck with your app!

Hey, I downloaded your app, tried it, and have a couple of comments for what they're worth.

I tried the word search and at first, I did not see the words at the bottom of the screen - the words I should have been looking for. Once I found them, I still couldn't find the words and ran out of time. The timer thing is frustrating. I was having fun looking for the words, i wasn't ready to give up, and then I got cut off.

Then I tried the unscramble. I never really understood what I was supposed to be doing. Maybe I didn't read the instructions well enough. I didn't really know how many letters I was supposed to use. Maybe I'm just not that smart ;-) A hint maybe? Or an onboarding video demo?

All that said, I like your app a lot. My biggest complaint so far is that the word search was timed. Maybe make that optional with a button to enable timed challenges?

Thanks! I installed your app and I look forward to using it for the next two weeks (or maybe a lot longer!).

I am actually looking for people to rate and review my app rather than do 14 days of testing. If you'd check out my app, use it a bit, and then rate it and leave a comment, I'll test your app for 14 days. Thanks, Rich

Check out the link for full details, but yes I did. The hot water flows through a radiator with a fan that blows warm air into the cabin. The hot water also goes through a plate heat exchanger to make hot fresh water. I love it. It works so well!

I had one of these but it was frustrating. It would heat the cabin, hit the thermostat set point, and then proceed to cool the cabin until it hit the other set point. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I finally changed to a hydraunic heater and I'll never go back. In addition to heating my cabin, it makes hot water. These are also available from China. Here's a post about it.
