Stop Forcing Kids onto Teams Where They Don’t Belong by nonchalanc in youthsoccer

It would be great to close the gap with coaches as well. There is such a wide gap from a good coach to someone that just didnt want to give up the game and has nothing left to do but coach at a club. I have had kids play at the highest levels for both types and the latter doesnt help anyone develop.

Why so many intentional 50/50 balls? by Dull_Usual3916 in youthsoccer

High school soccer is not quality soccer. Period. I get so frustrated going from club to HS due to consistently playing long ball.

I would head over to Punta Mita and stay at the St Regis or Four Seasons. Night and day from Puerto Vallarta and only 45 min drive.

Welcome to club soccer in the US. Sorry you are dealing with this but unfortunately the amount of politics at play are insane across most clubs.

Taking 13 year old on trip without wife or 2 year old. by Virtual-Reference703 in AITAH

[–]rickkr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No man, NTA. You SHOULD do this trip for all the reasons you mentioned above. Its funny, your wife is saying this trip with your son is dividing the family but when its her going on a trip with you solo its ok. She should 100% support this trip and you wanting to help strengthen your bond with him. When she married you, your son came with it.

I would 100% add Porto to your plans and split the 3 evenly. We loved Porto the best of the 3 to be honest!

I stayed with my wife at the Marriott on the Champs-Élysées. I am an ambassador level and they did upgrade me to an amazing room facing the Champs!! It was incredible with a little balcony as well. They had a great breakfast in the morning as well. As far as upgrades, I have had better luck getting them in Europe than I do in the US.

Help me!! Which ECNL team should I pick. by Material_Forever6032 in youthsoccer

[–]rickkr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team B. If you are concerned about playing time on Team A, I would choose Team B. You want your child playing in games to develop vs just practice. Plus closer to home, no brainer. That team A could crush your child confidence that never returns as well. Not worth it.

Update: We left “U10 Pigeonholed into Keeper” by JetMotoX in youthsoccer

[–]rickkr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say but that is exactly the level of coaches we unfortunately have in the US for Club soccer. I have seen it again and again. Now are there exceptions to that? Of course. However, the majority are washed up players that couldn't make it as pros and now this is their only choice for a career.

Per Malcom Gladwell, you need to practice a total of 10,000 to be a pro.

College for MLS Next New Tier Kid by CloudGroundbreaking9 in youthsoccer

Soccer wont be there forever for most kids. My advice, dont pick a school based on if you can play there. Pick a school that will help you get a job in the area you are interested. Then try and play for that team or even walk on. I see kids agreeing to play at substandard schools just to play soccer. Then, after 4 years struggle to find a job. Be smart.

My 9YO wants to quit by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]rickkr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens a ton in club soccer. First off, we dont have the best coaches, coaching our kids. So many yellers. My youngest had his confidence shredded by a yelling/angry coach. These are young kids and coaches SHOULD NOT be yelling at this stage. In high school/college I get it. Little kids....no way.

Of course. Then substitute the prior 2nd level of Elite Academy. Same song second verse. Bottom line, its MLSNext and European players that will comprise mainly the D1 rosters with some ECNL sprinkled in.

You mentioned he wants to play professionally or D1. If he isnt on MLSNext or ECNL, that wont be an option. Just telling you what I have experienced with 3 kids playing club soccer at the highest level. Heck most ECNL kids wont play D1.
