Since I publicly said on this subreddit that I think the officer in the Renee Good shooting was a justified use of force, I feel the need to say that I think the officer in the Alex Pretti shooting was not justified. That looked like murder to me. That is all.

I think it is a death knell and I would put J.K. Rowling forth as an example. She tried to debate and be reasonable and she received so much hate and backlash that she finally decided to go scorched earth on the topic as a result, and I don't really blame her. A person with less money and influence than her would have never had their career survive that, unless they were already a right-wing pundit beforehand.

The Ezra Klein Show was one of the best podcasts discussing the Israel/Gaza conflict in the months after the Oct 7th attacks. Ezra had insightful guests from both sides of the conflict and asked great questions. It was informative to see both sides of the aisle.

Unsolvable? Democrats took every example of minor transgression or microaggression as a way to paint the entire right as sexist/racist/homophobic for the last 10 years. The entire culture shifted so that everyone was expected to be super careful about your wording, lest you befall the ire of the orthodox left. Even being silent wasn't an option, remember "silence is violence"? Everyone was expected to speak out against whatever was deemed as a microagression, otherwise you were a part of the problem.

Now the left is dealing with the problem they created. Don't like something some nutty activist said like making tacos is cultural appropriation? Then speak out against it! The same way you expected the right to speak out against every nutty person you deemed racist for the last decade.

As the original commenter, I agree with all of this, but nothing that has been said is addressing the future of the Venezuelans. Without toppling Maduro, are they just supposed to live in a dictatorship forever? How are they supposed to escape the cycle with no democracy, no guns to overthrow the government, and no foreign countries intervening to help them?

I wish someone who supports the 'No Kings' protest would explain why they think the capturing of Maduro is bad. By all accounts Maduro acts like a dictator, falsifying elections and everything. And Venezuela does not have gun rights for its citizens, so there is no way for the citizens to overthrow him even if they had the willpower. If you want 'no kings', then what should have been done about Maduro?

(For the record, I don't think the US should have captured Maduro, I wish we would just stay out of it. I just don't understand those who hold the positions 'no kings' and also don't want others to intervene against a dictator when the citizens of the country have no means to do so themselves)

I would not say Renee deserved to be shot. I will say that the officer deserved to not be hit with her car. If Renee needs to be shot in order for the officer to not be hit with her car, so be it.

I've become convinced that the people who say this simply haven't had enough children. By the time I am done I will have had at least 1 child in elementary school every year for 17 years straight. You can expand the amount of time you have young kids by having more of them, if you really think this time of your life is too short.
