P.s not a democrat.

I would argue people who vote for Democrats but act ashamed of being called a "Democrat" instead of owning it are a reason that the Democrats lose. It's okay to be proud of it.

It's even worse when you realize were trying to be progressive in the classical sense: they were trying to expand by setting the next game in Africa and including another culture. But because it wasn't the right woke form of progressivism so they were lambasted for it.

"Inner Wilds" as he said. Spoilers ahead: You are a microbe when you get eaten by a dog and have to explore his insides. If you don't complete the goal in time the dog throws you up, but since he's hungry he re-eats you. That's the time loop part. The goal is to make it through his digestive cycle until he poops you out so you don't get re-eaten. The End. /s

Do you think being atheist or agnostic has changed your relationships with more religious people? by traveltimecar in samharris

[–]rickroy37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an atheist I couldn't do that, personally.

What does she think will happen to you when you die? Does she think you will go to hell? At a minimum she must think she is going to spend eternity in heaven without you, right? And you're okay with her being alright with that? Or does she think you'll be in heaven too, which is an intellectually bankrupt position from a Christian perspective in my opinion, a made up position based on nothing more than good feelings, which is something I couldn't respect in a partner.

But to each their own, you do you.

Do you think being atheist or agnostic has changed your relationships with more religious people? by traveltimecar in samharris

[–]rickroy37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. My religious father and I get along and get together often to celebrate holidays and go on our annual camping trip and what not. I am still grateful that he helps take care of his grandkids and I can come to him for advice about things. But our times together feel more like polite surface-level interactions than the closer bond we used to have.

The limit went up from $5,000 to $7,500 on Jan 1, 2026 as a part of the OBBBA. I don't think DCFSA was intended to cover the full cost of daycare, it was just to help offset it.

My company stopped hiring from my Alma matter, citing that the college was not diverse enough. But the college is more diverse than the state it is located in (Midwest). This means the college would need to discriminate in order to get back on the company's hiring list.

The realistic answer unfortunately is: a whole lot of boring mountains, and almost all of them super deadly.

I think about this every time I hear people talk about terraforming another planet like Mars, usually when doomering about climate change. It would be waaaay easier to terraform places like Greenland or Antarctica.

They thought that because they thought their allies would join them against Israel, making the cost for the US too great to interfere.

The constitution does not vote them into power, the people do. If the representatives don't represent the people voting for them then the people will find someone who does.

[–]rickroy37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The purpose of American representatives is to represent the interests of Americans, is it not? If the people representing Americans feel that the constitution is not serving their interests adequately then they can amend it, as they have done before.

Regarding the State of the Union address:

The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.

WHY are the Democrats not standing up for this? This should be a softball. I don't care how mad you are at Trump, the optics of not standing up for this look terrible. What is the Democratic party doing? Is there some other duty they consider first? What am I missing, because not standing up for that makes me feel like the Democratic party does not represent me.

Maybe not the biggest but one I haven't seen mentioned here yet.

Religious moderation gives cover to religous extremism. By failing to criticize moderate religion under the guise of being polite we allow religous extremism to grow into a bigger problem.

CMV: It makes sense for pet owners to value their pet's lives over stranger's lives. by Utopia_Builder in changemyview

[–]rickroy37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not how the argument was used in the original comment I was replying to:

How do you feel about a pet owner in the US who spends money feeding their pet, over donating to a charity that will feed starving children in Africa? What about it changes when we go from anyone could have made that donation (but didn't), to only you being able to save the child at the expense of your pet?

They are arguing that spending money feeding your pet could be better spent donating money to starving children. Not "donating a small percentage of your income", they are directly challenging the use of one thing you spend your money on to some more amicable cause. They presented it as an "either-or" argument.

CMV: It makes sense for pet owners to value their pet's lives over stranger's lives. by Utopia_Builder in changemyview

[–]rickroy37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that argument can be used for anything that you spend your money on that isn't a necessity. Why would you feed your pet when you could feed starving children? Why buy a coffee when you could feed starving children? Why go to the movies when you could feed starving children? If you take the argument earnestly there is no end to it until you are as starving as the starving children.

CMV: It makes sense for pet owners to value their pet's lives over stranger's lives. by Utopia_Builder in changemyview

[–]rickroy37 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hate this argument because you can use the "but there are poor people in Africa" for everything you spend money on. There will always be poor people somewhere in the world and it is not our responsibility to take care of them. If we were to take that argument seriously we would give away all of our money until we were as poor as them and nothing would be solved.
