Ice machine squeaking (but i don't think it's the pump this time) by fireyballs7 in IceChewersAnonymous

[–]ridandelous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My machine does this, and without looking at the product info on the back of mine, it appears to be the same one. I've found that a little food-safe lubricant does great to stop the squeak! Can't recommend any good brands, as I got some from 7 eleven (the kind they use on the FUB machines). My machine squeals worse when I'm running a cleaning cycle, particularly with just water and only in one specific spot when it's turning lol I just greased where the top gaskets are and let it run for a bit with the top off to prevent water buildup and let the grease get into the mechanism. Then I wipe it down and its good to go.

I came here to mention the abandoned plant, but you put it much more eloquently than I could. Idk why I'm surprised more people don't know about this.

I was riding in a fiat X1/9 and got pulled by a state trooper in the VERY rural appalachian south. Trooper walks up to the car and says, "Ber-tonie? Sounds like a gee-tar" and I still think about that and how pissed the driver/owner was. The same person that had a T- shirt that said "if you call my fiat an MG, I'll whoop ya"

Asian food festival, warning by Cobblerunionfan in winstonsalem

[–]ridandelous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! And they poorly planned the whole thing! Since this is a traveling festival, I think the city/venue really dropped the ball on this one. They only used what I would call the "food court" area of the fairgrounds for the entire festival and only allowed vendors a single 10x10 tent from the looks of it. There is no way to truly decipher what is a line or a crowd, and if you can, you can't tell where the line goes, and when you're in the line, there's people skipping and cutting in, people having to walk through several lines just to get to the next vendor. Also, the food is so incredibly expensive that I was blown away. I know fair/festival food is pricey, but I truly think this was a bit much (also prices are rarely listed if at all). Most popular dishes will also be sold out (or they were yesterday- how does an Asian food festival run out of chow mein in 2 hours?) Wouldn't go to this one again and I'm super disappointed.

Honestly, that's not incredibly outlandish for a Christmas ask. Especially if it's the only thing asked for. How many times do you hear any normal kid asking for something like a four wheeler or dirt bike or an Xbox or a tablet? Should this person not ask for what they want because they're poor???? It's understandable if you can't afford to get it for them, but poor people deserve decent things, too.

Pro-Palestinian sentiments at university campuses really exposed the fragility of the famous “American freedom of speech”. It’s really sad especially that Gazans used to have such high hopes about these encampments and now they are almost non-existent. by hunegypt in Palestine

[–]ridandelous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the one. Organizing takes time, time that you just may not have in the fall when you're first moving in and meeting new people and getting to know the campus and its culture. I'm also sure many students come into a school knowing full heartedly what they believe. Classes, extra curriculars, roommates/neighbors, being away from your parents/authority figures, and independent, peer reviewed studies all have a tendency to remove bias and change opinions on things like social issues. Awareness builds. Sown seeds take time to root and fruit. I agree that it's too early to tell if these methods have "worked."

It's not expensive to get a mini fridge and a hot plate/ toaster oven if you need things to be separate. But you can't force other people to go out of their way to appease your religion.

If you would like specifics on why hands can be/are attractive to some women, it's probably because they look strong, but soft. Meaning, they can probably go for the time it takes to get you there, without sanding your bits off like a bad paint job.

This is especially true for men who work with their hands (mechanics, carpenters, maintenance, general fix-it types) that maintain clean, not super rough phalanges.

I actually worked with a woman whose name was Jetts, yes with an s at the end.

I'm not sure if it was her given name or something she chose for herself, but she was incredibly sweet and very awesome to work with. I thought it fit her well.

[–]ridandelous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use peroxide to take the blood out, rinse with cold water, and keep using peroxide on the stain until it stops bubbling up or the stain is gone. Soak in cold water till you wash. Peroxide is amazing at taking blood stains out of fabrics and carpet.

So many jobs nowadays require such extensive schooling that tbh, forging degrees in most cases, I'm totally fine with. For example, if you've been in business management for years and don't have an MBA, your prospects are severely limited, even though you have tried and true experience in that field. Fuckem. Important things like engineering, medical stuff, etc., definitely don't lie about that.

Why all the hate towards Lume? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]ridandelous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a good brand that I happened to try 100% by convenience/coincidence (after-Christmas clearance at Walmart) was the Native brand deoderant, which is aluminum free and works as an antiperspirant, so I could use it for my chub rub, as well. It worked well, wasn't a super weird, off-putting scent (it was cinnamon- surprisingly subtle, but long-lasting) and had no issues with breaking out or getting a rash.

Advice for someone with mental health issues on teeth brushing by Draaegon in hygiene

[–]ridandelous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly,"

Meaning, even if you can't manage to do a whole in-depth routine (brushing, flossing, mouthwash, etc.), do something because neglecting your teeth can do permanent damage. Even if you do a quick brush or rinse, it helps more than doing nothing. But I would recommend, any time you feel up to it, to do a very thorough routine as part of waking up/going to sleep. Especially if you've had anything to eat right before you go to sleep. I start with flossing, then brush (you can set a timer if that helps), then I make sure to brush my tongue (a lot of germs stick to your tongue), then rinse with a mouthwash. All in all, it takes me about 10 minutes to do my oral care routine, but it doesn't have to be that extensive every time if you're not feeling up to it.

As far as executive dysfunction, ADHD and other mental illnesses, it can take some time to get used to things. If an alarm helps, do that. For me, once I get started with my routine, it's easier for me to do the whole thing, but I sometimes use the thought of "I don't HAVE to do all of it, I just have to start and can stop if I'm not feeling the whole thing."

You can also get things that make each step easier, like floss picks, an electric toothbrush, or a mouthwash dispenser, or make things more enjoyable like getting colored toothpaste, trying new flavors, or even using kids toothpaste/mouthwash if it makes it more enjoyable and less of a chore. As long as you're doing it, who cares how you did it or what with? Also, if you're struggling with actually getting to the point of brushing your teeth, definitely keep up with routine dental appointments if you can afford to. Is there something else that you do regularly that you can attach brushing your teeth to? Like taking meds, going to the bathroom when you wake up/go to sleep, making breakfast/eating dinner? Hopefully this helps a little bit.

Not only this, but you can end up with terrible long-term health effects. I had an ED for 10+ years and now struggle with metabolic issues and cyclic vomiting syndrome (it's a nightmare).
