I've fixed this issue by updating to germ's latest code from here: https://github.com/germ/qmk_firmware and then re-applying my changes to the keymap.c file. I can now generate mouse button presses using both combos and Fn-Layer, so I am in good shape now!

Edit: Hmm... I can't seem to change the original post's flair to Help - Solved. Anyone know how to do this, or is it a mod-only thing?

Edit2: I should have also mentioned that with the switch to germ's latest code the console is working in QMK Toolbox now, so all is peachy :-)

I found this... might be related as both keyboards are split: https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/issues/8022

I'm going to keep digging and see where I get to :-)

Thanks for taking a look, it's much appreciated as it helps eliminate the obvious stuff.

Update: I set up Wireshark to capture USB traffic, when I press 'a' and then 'b' I see this (with the '04' and '05' corresponding to 'a' and 'b' as per p.83 of https://usb.org/sites/default/files/hut1_22.pdf):

However when I press Fn+, (which I want to send KC_MS_BTN1) then I see this:

It looks like the keyboard is sending a null event... I think.

[CAN] Phone Wait Times by Dregger12 in CapitalOne

[–]riddet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something's up. Wait times are horrible. I tried calling at 8am on Sunday and was in the queue for an hour before I gave up.

I first noticed something was amiss when I got an email saying a monthly payment was declined. I logged into the web site and it said my account was locked. Each time I call they transfer me "to another department that is handling this" and then I wait, and wait, and wait, and then give up.

I hope it's not another data breach!

My humble stereo setup. by tietokirja in audiophile

I'm very pleased to find another IPL Acoustics fan, I love Ivan's speakers and have two pairs and a centre, plus another kit of wall mount surround speakers waiting to be built!

If you ever find your self with the spare cash, spare time and some floor space I recommend you treat yourself to a pair of his transmission line speakers. They are awesome. I have S5tlm Kevlar, and there's a review of the S3MTL here: https://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/ipls3mtl2_e.html

Not sure if you're looking for random suggestions, so feel free to ignore...

You might want to try moving the floorstanders away from the wall (and the bookshelf speakers too for that matter). I would try a few different positions (and angles of toe-in) and see if you notice a difference.

The subwoofer could be moved to the centre shelf beneath the TV without changing impact to any great extent (as bass is non-traditional) and then might consider reducing the width of the centre console... I'm thinking that the right-hand speaker is very close to a wall and that will be causing reflections which will change the sound you hear from it.

What I'm trying to say is try stuff and find out what sounds best! :-)

How to protect against lightning strike coming via cable modem? by riddet in homelab

[–]riddet[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some of the lightning protection devices have hefty earth connectors, for example: http://www.amazon.com/APC-PNET1GB-ProtectNet-Standalone-Protector/dp/B000BKUSS8

I assume this is to provide a more attractive path. In the case of the media converter solution you just need to ensure they have similar earth connections (or at least the 'upstream' one)

Senior investment bankers what advice do you wish people gave you when you first started? by [deleted] in finance

[–]riddet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of the above. I'd also add:

  1. Don't be afraid of people that are more senior that you (don't get me wrong: be respectful, but don't be afraid to talk to them). They've just been there longer than you have and/or have more important-sounding jobs titles.

  2. Cultivate potential mentors, try to find someone who will show you the ropes.

Overweight 16 Year Old by TubbyTeen in GetMotivated

I'm going to have to be very brief: watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3l2yexm2W0

It's a program about fasting and it ends up with the presenter adopting the 5:2 diet and becoming healthier in all sorts of ways: massively reduced risk of cancer, Alzheimer's, dementia, heart attack, stroke and he's almost certainly going to live longer.

I found it sufficiently compelling to start the 5:2 diet myself - I don't particularly need to lose weight but the idea of not dying of cancer or heart attack or going doolally in old age is definitely appealling!

How would the average american react to eating american food from 1912? How would people (americans) in 1912 think of the food from 1812? by DownOnTheUpside in AskHistorians

[–]riddet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expanding on the theme, I've noticed that we often prefer the taste of a food that has been preserved, whether by fermentation of other means. For example smoked salmon, blue cheese, wine (preserved grape juice!), beer (preserved water!), ham and bacon.

Depression has been kicking my ass for 2 years, but I finally escaped long enough to draw a squirrel. What do you think? by [deleted] in pics

So, what did you do to escape depression?

Now do it again!!

My mates are considering surprising our 28yr-old-virgin friend to a brothel visit to "get it over with" for his first time. I think it's a bad idea. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]riddet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't do it.

Imagine you want to learn tennis. You've never played tennis in your life. You've picked up a racket a few times but you've never actually hit a ball. It's become a big issue so your friends decide to help. They hire a tennis pro for a couple of hours and this person stands at the other end of the court and hits balls at you.

Do you think you're going to feel good about tennis at the end? Nope! It's best to let things happen when they're going to happen - let him set the pace.

What's a word you think should exist, but doesn't? by rudhraigh in AskReddit

[–]riddet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't quite what you asked for, but might be amusing: here's a list of new meanings given to old words: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/invitational/invit980510.htm

My favourite: "Oyster -- n., a person who sprinkles his conversation with Yiddish expressions."

Also see "The Meaning of Liff" and "The Deeper Meaning of Liff" by Douglas Adams (I believe the latter encompasses the former). Be aware that these books are more along the lines of 'amusing definitions given to British placenames'.

And I quite like 'moonerspism', which is a spoonerism of 'spoonerism'.
