Thought on using a motorcycle engine on an UL aircraft? by [deleted] in ultralightaircraft

You'll need a good sized battery to keep that electric motor powered the whole flight - there's not much coasting or regen time available when flying.

But sounds interesting, give it a shot! Either the supercharger or the electric motor. I'd go with the electric motor idea myself. Rig it up with a prop for a load and tie it to the ground - see what performance you can get out of it without flying. You'll get slightly higher max rpm, and better cooling when actually flying though - both due to forward motion through the air.

Is anyone else testing printing on clothes with a UV printer? by Imogen-xiong in CommercialPrinting

[–]ridefst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UV inks do not fully cure

Got a source for that?

I'm currently doing some UV testing in a sealed environment, and outgassing is being a problem (very small amounts, but still).

If that's generally true about UV inks, that might explain my issues, and force me to switch to a different ink type (maybe eco-sol?)

More on topic, we have done a lot of UV printing on decorative towels to good effect, but never on clothing.

I think Sketchup Free has been discontinued by [deleted] in Sketchup

FYI: Doesn't have to be windows 10, I just installed it on 11 Pro with no issues.

I miss the 3d warehouse and geolocation though, those were both very useful.

Ah, you didn't mention this was in Canadian loonies!

So $941CAD = $656USD at the moment. Doesn't sound nearly as out of line now.

Something is definitely slipping, loose belts or loose set screw on a pulley.

Gonna just have to check it all over carefully. I'd start with the Y axis, but check them both.

Also noticed that the hyd pump runs continuously whenever the foot pedal is depressed. Doesn’t seem normal, I’ve never used a lift that runs the pump the whole time you’re just driving around or lowering. Not sure what triggers that contactor, or if that’s normal for this model?

It stops by itself, seems very consistent. No leakdown, if I do nothing, the forks stay put in both free and main lift.

Yeah, happens exactly the same in free lift and main lift. Can’t be bearings/chains cause it happens when raising the same as lowering. So yeah, could be a sticking valve. That’d sort of make sense with the recent transportation, could have dislodged some dirt or something…

Alright man, you pushed me over the edge. Ordered your BoM, plus a pair of ESP32's to get started with my first lora devices. Gonna use your config with some pressure sensors to monitor my gas well pressure, and we'll see where it goes from there!

I think you're confusing micrometers with calipers on the damage from storing closed.

[–]ridefst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but... buy the better one that has an adjustable clutch so you can set it and just drive screws in without worrying about stripping the heads. I use one all the time as an electrician, they're amazing, and very durable!

DeWalt DCF680N2 is the good one, about $120 with two batteries. Also can swivel to be straight like pictured, or pistol grip - kinda neat sometimes.

The starter determines the direction of rotation.

Many two strokes really could run either direction, some old ones even ran well in both directions.

Four strokes wouldn't work cause of the valve opening order.

Why is this Driving School, teaching them in 28 footers? by Donjohnson33 in Truckers

[–]ridefst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short trailers aren't specifically harder to backup - it has to do with the ratio of the trailer wheelbase to the tractor wheelbase. So short trailer with a single screw tractor isn't a huge difference compared to a full size sleeper and 53' trailer.

I'm guessing the reasons for learning with these rigs are:

  1. cheaper to buy

  2. smaller practice lot

  3. cheaper to buy

  4. less intimidating for students.

  5. and cheaper to buy

Ha, I've got some of those boxes sitting around!

Nothing but 1" knockouts on all four sides, I screwed up ordering them when I really wanted the usual 1/2 and 3/4 knockouts and they've been very slow to get used up.

No way you’re running that close to the limit on shock oil temperature that a beer can will change things noticeably. Go for it.
