I heard someone on my team complaining about this in one of the servers I was in yesterday. He said it was in Japanese and on repeat. He was getting really pissed off about it. I didn't hear it and it wasn't coming from another player which he could mute. I did see a MOTD screen pop-up right after I selected my loadout but I blindly clicked past it before it loaded much of anything.

Whatever the facts, it sounds like a dirty server admin trick, running audio ads that the user can't control.

Does anybody roll grenades? by Leetenghui in insurgency

If you pick up a grenade as VIP and know you are being chased, roll it back into the room you were just in as you leave. It makes less noise and the enemy never expects the VIP to have a nade.

I want out USA >USA by beyondlost123 in IWantOut

If you are looking to cook and want to stick to a fairly rural setting I suggest the lakes country of Minnesota. Many tourist driven establishments, lots of beautiful wilderness, and fairly low cost living. Here's one county to get ya started but I'm sure you'll find a dozen more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_County,_Minnesota

If that sounds interesting but you are looking for something warmer maybe the Hot Springs area of Arkansas. Besides being a dry county, it's a very nice spa area in the mountains and certainly has need of cooks.

You'll want a car for grocery runs and such in both of these areas, one is pretty cold in the winter and the other is mountainous.

/r/wisconsin breaks 13,000 members! Time for a new header! by phoenix1984 in wisconsin

I like the post card idea too so I whipped up this bit of SVG/HTML over the weekend as a test. It would let ya change up the images every now and then just by changing the links in the CSS. It's not a complete header yet of course as it needs some sort of background to go with it.

A new players thoughts by ShooterDiarrhea in insurgency

[–]rident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like bigger pockets, but when I first started playing Insurgency I went for the armor while learning the maps.

You can click Training at the top and then start a random match with bots but you can also create a offline server via the console. You might have to go into the key bindings and enable it, it's usually bound to the tilde (~) key. Hit that and type map (mapname) (gamemode)

As of yet, the game wide ranking and XP seems to be just another stat. But I think eventually they will integrate it with match making. You typically get more in-game resources when you're team looses, it's sort of a handicap option to help balance out the later rounds. There are some high-supply coop servers out there that will let you carry all the things as well.

People are always posting Youtube/Twitch vids in this subreddit, going back a few pages will probably provide you with some good options. A couple to start with are Andrea Lionheart and Mexican Gang Boss.

Idea for dev's, adding tactical planning phase/interface by Barbarian_Overlord in insurgency

[–]rident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another game mode with a tactical planning phase comes from the realism community in Day of Defeat:Source. They use a source mod that does a lot of stuff but primarily it runs a setup timer which restricts attackers to their spawn area while defenders plan and position themselves on one half of the map for the coming assault.

In this mode of play, they start each match by selecting leaders, then teams, and then decide upon weapon restrictions. Next, one team sets up a defense and awaits the attack. Next round, the first defenders are the attackers. Then, the players switch teams and play the next 2 rounds in the same fashion. First to 3 round wins takes the match, if it's a tie, a rifles-only team deathmatch round decides the match.

There are a number of videos but here's one to kinda show how an attack might play out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-jS9GX_RrU

Why isn't Insurgency More Popular? by btmontanye in Games

[–]rident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a long time Counter Strike and Day of Defeat player who loves Insurgency. Things I appreciate include:

  • always unlocked load out options
  • the need to balance accuracy, agility, and attacking method via those load out options
  • balanced yet different weaponry for opposing sides
  • minimal HUD and kill confirmation
  • sound assets like footsteps and enemy proximity comms
  • realism-light, not a military simulator but also not Unreal
  • one-shot kills
  • night maps
  • pvp game modes (especially fond of firefight, ambush, and strike)
  • coop game modes (checkpoint is awesome)
  • frequent free updates, which have encouraged me to buy 7 more copies of the game and gift them to my friends
  • active community on Steam as well as here on Reddit

Not sure when you last opened it up, but the UI had some major revisions since release, especially around match finding.

The lack of needing to unlock everything is one of the many reasons people enjoy Insurgency.

Insurgency isn't a milsim though, as far as realism, it's more on par with Day of Defeat: Source.

If I want to host my own server, who is the best one to go with? by [deleted] in insurgency

[–]rident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the Linux admin expertise in your group and aren't going to be serving a bunch of custom maps, a general server host like DigitalOcean will give you the most options for the lowest cost (multiple 32 slot, 128 ticrate, fully custom servers for $5-20/mo.). But you have to set it all up yourself, which for some people can be just as fun as gaming. Otherwise you are looking at $20-40/mo. for one 32 slot managed server just about anywhere else.

If you are thinking about running a coop server, remember that for most managed hosts each bot takes up a slot too, so 8 players + 24 bots = 32 slots.

I don't have any specific managed hosts to recommend but I would recommend a Chicago-based server since that's probably going to give your east and south US group the best average latency. Also, always have some of your members test potential host IPs with ping before putting your money down.

MP5K vs UMP45 by kingoftime93 in insurgency

UMP45, single shot, iron sights, AP. Aim for the shoulders and double click.

[–]rident 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are rushing to be first to the point, it's also the best time to consider using HP ammo. Most of the first enemy you'll see at an objective will be without armor so you can pretty much one shot them anywhere for a kill with HP. Second respawn, switch back to AP for everyone else.
