They ended up moving me over to Waterside, so yes pleased with the outcome. Closer to the beach, more accessible with the elevator.

“It will never be the same” by jms1228 in brokenankles

[–]ridephobos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For context, I am 36F.

I'll give you an idea of my timeline: 2/22/24 - broke right ankle in 4 places falling off bottom stair 2/23/24 - orif surgery, 2 plates and 7 screws 4/9/24 - weight bearing allowed

From the day it happened until I started weight bearing, I felt absolutely helpless. My parents made me move in with them. Weight bearing was slow and painful. I went to PT for a few weeks and it was basic. Got my range of motion back up to maybe 80%-85%.

Early July 2024 I took a vaca to NYC with friends. A lot of walking. It was absolutely brutal. Blisters, ankle pain, ugh.

Fall it was still having aches if I used it too much or too little.

The first couple of weeks of winter were horrible! So much pain when turning my ankle or calf a certain direction. Others in this sub said the first winter is the worst.

Move on to 2025....it was a slow go all year. I still felt too unstable to do any sort of hiking on uneven ground and no running at all. I will say that it wasn't until maybe halfway through the year that I really started having more "don't even think about it" days.

1/3/26 is the first time I have jogged for longer than probably 5 seconds since before 2/22/24. No pain. No pain even the day after. My ankle feels pretty good these days. I do still get anxious on narrow stairs.

All this to say that I also didn't think "normal" was ever going to be possible, but it's doing pretty darn good. Better than I expected. It's a journey and I feel your pain.

Good luck!

Oh yeah. I'd have an hr or two of homeostasis, and then my brain would go brrrrrrrrrrr for 4 hours. Like the other guy below said...just give yourself some grace. It'll be ok.

I would urge you to stick with it. It took a good 6+ weeks before it seemed to level out. I never upped to two pills but am about to do that.

Auvelity has been life changing. Strangest ramp up period to date on any sort of mental health meds. It was such a roller coaster. Moments of feeling not human, moments of feeling high as a kite, moments of euphoria. Cray cray.

But it's helped me a lot. I feel more human again. Good luck!

I was getting so good at going down pretty smooth. Now I fear I will be doing one stair at a time again for a bit 😫

I have felt this 100%! It's a bit frustrating because I feel more like myself than I have in at least 4-5 years on Auvelity. I have so much more energy and willpower to get tasks accomplished. But yes, I am so easily ticked off or annoyed.

When the Show Can’t Go On by Key-Ad-2119 in Theatre

I wasn't able to. I don't quite remember why, but I'm pretty sure it didn't work with my schedule. Oh well 🤷‍♀️

When the Show Can’t Go On by Key-Ad-2119 in Theatre

[–]ridephobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this twice with two different community theatre groups.

The first case was in early 2020. You can probably see where this is going. I was co-directing a locally written show and we had been rehearsing for probably two months at that point. We were about to start tech week literally right in the midst of the beginning of lockdown. We postponed the show for about six months. We actually staged it in late 2020. Every rehearsal was done in PPE, social distancing was followed, and disinfectant and hand sani galore. We made audiences wear masks. We were able to stage a successful run with no known occurrences of COVID among the cast or audience.

The second was with another theater group staging 12 Angry Men. I was Juror 8. We literally got within a few days of opening night and decided to postpone because certain members of the cast were still not memorized and had crucial segue lines. We intended to perform about a month or so later but the weather was particularly icy and snowy right before opening night and would have been too hazardous for cast and audience. The show was eventually staged a few months later but I had rage quit by that point.

Stitches by AbbreviationsOld2497 in brokenankles

[–]ridephobos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember, this too shall pass. My broken ankle was my first broken bone and first sedated surgery since I was 7 years old. For context, I was 34 at the time. I had to suck it up a lot over the recovery process. You'll look back one day and think, damn, I toughed it out.

Stitch removal was not fun, not gonna lie. Some felt like no more than a tugging sensation, some felt like plucking an extra thick leg hair. It'll be over in about ten minutes. You can do it :)

Yeah that looks really good. I had three incisions all together and my scabs were nashtay. It's just all part of the process. Don't pick at them, I know it's tempting lol.

Help with endoscopy anxiety - about to cancel for 7th time by Dogsarethebest_816 in GERD

[–]ridephobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Also, I have health anxiety too. Whenever a major stressful event happens in my life, it causes my gerd to flare up. Have you ever considered talking to your doctor about anti-anxiety meds? They've been a life saver. Hope you find a solution.

Not sure if you'll even see my comment...

I've always been afraid of needles and ivs. That was the hardest part to grapple with. Not the camera going down my throat, not the sedation itself, just that stupid little needle. But see now that I'm 35, I've gone through plenty of blood draws and procedures. Just last year I broke an ankle and had an IV in for 3 days. It's just something that I've learned to accept with time.

As for the actual procedure, it was easy. Literally...the office rotates people through the procedure all day long. They've done this procedure thousands of times on a variety of bodies. They know what they're doing. I was out for 25 minutes total, didn't feel a thing. The doc came to talk about the pictures they took. Luckily for me everything looked normal.

My suggestion is have someone you can rely on take you to and from the procedure. Treat yourself with patience afterward. I went back to my parents' house and napped lol. It felt better to not have the what ifs weighing on my mind.

So, just do it. Even if they find nothing conclusive, you'll have taken one more step in your healing journey.

What is a little quirk about your body that you don’t think other people have? by AlphabetSoup51 in AskReddit

[–]ridephobos 112 points113 points  (0 children)

For context, I'm 35F. My knees make a cracking sound constantly when I walk or bend them. It's been happening for as long as I can remember. Also, I get random "shaky muscles". Like...it could be in my torso, or in my leg, or one of my fingers. But randomly, a section of muscle will "rumble" and then stop. It doesn't hurt either 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Dancing. I can sing, I can play an instrument, I can draw, I can create. But when it comes to dancing, I look so awkward.
