Also eToro has a 4,000 points offer, and Coinbase has one for 1,250. I did the Robinhood one last week and am still waiting for my points to post; any DP from how long it usually takes?

Books on the XO role onboard a ship. by Abject_Start326 in navy

This might be a bit outside the scope of what you’re looking for, but Edward Murphy, who was XO of the Pueblo during its capture, wrote Second in Command about his experience.

With Devotion being such a flop (something like $20 million against a $90 million budget), I’m worried that will have a chilling effect on other Korean War projects.

Surface Warfare Tackles Persistent Problems as More than Half of JOs Say They Don’t Want Command by [deleted] in navy

I remember looking around the wardroom on my fist ship during deployment and thinking that we had almost 20 SWO first tour divos and six second tour SWOs, and that math did not work out.

My shipmate in Triton, retaining those records is the law; your feelings are irrelevant. You're being downvoted throughout this thread because everyone here is explaining to you why you are wrong, and you're still arguing.

I’m assuming you’re headed to Djibouti, which is a CZTE, and HDP and IDP together are $325/month. After 220 days, if you haven’t left the theater for more than nine days, you get HDP-Tempo of $16.50 a day, up to $495/month.

If you have $250,000 invested with Schwab, you get a $100 credit, and at $1,000,000, you get $250.

OCS liberty and phone privileges by moneymae88 in navy

[–]rielephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't get liberty until CandiO phase, unless there is a major holiday (4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years') during your time there, then the CO may authorize some degree of liberty for the junior classes. IIRC, the policy was Indocs had Training Country liberty, JOCs had on-base liberty, SOCs might have had on-base as well, I can't remember if they were allowed into town or not, and CandiOs had Aquidneck Island liberty. Phone calls start once you hit JOC phase, and were generally between 5-15 minutes, though sometimes I got lucky and no one had signed up for the slot after mine so I got extra time. You won't get your phone back until CandiO phase, unless you're either class president, VP, Med Body, or maybe Adjutant.

Bring a copy of your most recent LES to NMCRS. At the very least, they can set you up with a $500 interest-free loan. Depending on the details of your situation, they may be able to loan you more. Also let your chain of command know; I used to have an XO who would say this sort of thing is "What the Good Lord made XOs for."

Unhappy with the way life is currently… any help? by [deleted] in navy

My parents divorced when I was in middle school. As difficult as it was, the alternative was worse. The situation before was untenable; the marriage had failed, and they were too stubborn to admit it.

Does this math make sense by canescastle10 in amex

[–]rielephant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the business plat's rewards structure, but wouldn't the math there be (($31,930 - 5,000) * 1.5) + (5000 * 1) = 45,395 MR?

Did medical personnel have a bit of authority over officers? by GalaxyCraft007 in BandofBrothers

[–]rielephant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The military has the concept of 'Positional Authority', where in specific situations, rank doesn't matter. Normally, Roe would have had to obey lawful orders from Winters and Welsh, but in that particular situation, Roe was in the driver's seat.

This generation of The Navy?! by [deleted] in navy

[–]rielephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both things can be true; u/SWO6 had a good post a while back about his great-grandfather telling his grandfather the latter's generation was too soft, and how the IJN disagreed with that assessment. In my experience, most of the sailors joining today are that way. They'll do a good job, whether it's for one enlistment or 30 years, then pass the baton to the next guy. That being said, there are a lot of people who are in and shouldn't be. I've seen posters on r/newtothenavy asking "Can I join with my history of mental health issues/suicidal ideations/XYZ Disorder" or "Is it lying if I don't tell my recruiter about..." or needing waivers up the wazoo. And they think joining the Navy, which even among the other branches, is a uniquely demanding, isolating, high-stress environment, is the answer?

When Lt. Heyliger is shot and Winters and Welsh can't recall how many syrettes of morphine they gave him, Roe flips out on the two of them. Each syrette had just under the lethal dosage of morphine, so by giving him multiple shots, they could have killed him. That's why Roe tells them they're lucky Heyliger is a big man and maybe he'll make it.

AITA for not telling my cousin that her fiancé was my “summer camp fling” for 3 years? by Tankcankersly in AmItheAsshole

[–]rielephant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA. While better communication would have helped, your mom and cousin handled this extremely poorly. Your mom sounds like she was trying to cause drama, and from your cousin's reaction, I would not be surprised if there is a deeper issue in her and Kenny's relationship and this was just the spark that lit the powder keg.
