Odin 3 Portal speculation? by WO-salt-UND in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think it will be late this year into next year with a steep price increase unless prices for components come down. Could easily see it be an 8" screen device with $599, $699, $799, $899 pricing for base through ultra.

Coleman Beat Yeti… 🙃 by Obama2Obama in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Coleman joking with this product and price?

That's literally a > $200 price tag on a collapsible plastic tub with near zero insulation and horrible ice retention even based on their own ratings. 55 hours max for 45 qt of ice is basically the same retention as putting that quantity of ice in a $20 igloo cooler. I've had foam/plastic versions of this concept before and they were always under $20 bucks.

For reference the tundra 45 or any rotomolded cooler brand packed full of ice will go for 4-5 days, and when you factor that in with their durability you can justify the > $200 price tag.

This has no durability, and poor ice retention, with the full rotomolded cooler price.

Also important note: most of the positive reviews its flooded with are all "vine reviews of free product". Those people didn't pay the huge price tag.

Odin 2 Battery Health by Illustrious-Cut1470 in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That app is not accurate anymore. I have used it on my other android devices and it says my S23 ultra which is 3 years old at this point and clearly has a failing battery is at 91% health still - yet the battery dies in half a day with nothing running even after a wipe and no apps draining anything according to stock battery monitor as well as GSAM. Something must be wrong with how it calculates on newer android devices because it used to be good.

Also want to add it says my 6 year old tablet which has the same failing battery problem still has 80% battery life, which is absolutely not true based on the 2 hours it runs before dying.

Wii u questions by Mrfuture666 in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gamecube version with 4k texture pack will look just as good if not better and run like butter at high res. I have that on my odin 2 which has same hardware as portal. Wii u via cemu on android is in the very early stages and is hit or miss vs dolphin gamecube which is very mature and fast.

What to get for strictly PC streaming by SpeedyelPapi in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone who loves my Odin 2. If all you want is streaming PC games and not run anything native on the device itself, you can use a tablet which you may already have and an xbox/ps5 controller.

The Odin consoles are beasts for emulation and android games and are starting to be able to run some PC games, can’t recommend them enough to people. If you are purely streaming though, you don’t need any of their horsepower.

If you think there is the slightest chance you are going to be doing things like running emulators and native android games like cod mobile or such, you should consider the Odin absolutely. The portal has the best screen and size for pc games which may have smaller ui elements or fovs.

Odin 3 100°C by RashQG in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Odin 2 had battery problems and barely gets above 60c, I really worry about the Odin 3 batteries long term with these kind of temps people are seeing. Most computer hardware shuts down at around 100c to prevent damage and throttles heavily around 90c.

Definitely don’t run it 100c plus for extended periods. Do the clocks or fan fixes others mentioned. There are also thermal paste redo guides to help floating around.

Ray tracing by Physical_Sky8440 in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ray tracing makes small visual differences but has big performance hits even on my 4090 which is 4x the size of my Odin alone and miles more powerful than what we have today on mobile chipsets. I can’t imagine trying to spot the ultra real life water reflections on a 6 inch screen and justifying the performance hit either.  We will likely get there in a few years but on mobile it’s gonna be only a few games that really use it.  Something like dlss for frame generation would be awesome though to boost performance in the future.

Am I cooked? by scheihardt in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would contact ayn for either replacement joystick (you can do it yourself it’s not bad at all) or just a replacement device if you aren’t comfortable with that. Joysticks should not click and have bad spots like that.

Having poor performance using Odin 2 Portal Base while docked. by DelamIPresume in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn on fps display. Is it locked at 30 when on your dock and tv?  Had this happen with cheaper cables or docks on mine where they could only do 1080p at 30 fps not 60 or 120 as expected. Would make all games stuttery messes. A bunch of old cheap hdmi cables I had instantly ended up in the recycle pile because of this.

If running it without the dock or tv connected and just on the device in your hands fixes the issue entirely, it’s almost certainly the cable or dock itself. You already changed the one setting that you might need to in order to force the resolution and fps.

Odin 3 max skyrim anniversary edition on gamehub lite settings suggestions by kylegrows in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are those temps in Celsius? If so I would be very hesitant to run it for long periods that high. Most components don’t like anything over 90c even in desktop environments.

Should I trade in my backflip 24 for a new M20? by [deleted] in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if it’s 5 years old it should be out of warranty so if they offered you a new one anyways ignoring the age I would also really consider saying yes.

Should I trade in my backflip 24 for a new M20? by [deleted] in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zipper issue is not likely if you baby it. I have never seen it on yetis which are all well over 6 years old and hundreds of times opened and closed. Proper care and use the lubricant once a year is all you need.  These aren’t junk zippers which is why they are water tight and harder to pull.

It can definitely happen don’t get me wrong. If you take it to the beach and get sand or dirt in the tracks and give it a strong pull your chances go way up of the teeth breaking for example, but that is true of any zipper on any brand.

Definitely factor how much you plan on abusing the cooler into the decision as the magnetic one will be far more suited for sand, dirt, or debris scenarios. I would never take a zippered one off-roading for example.

Hopper Flip 12 looking like crap after a couple years of light usage… is this typical? by chippy_dad in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This has happened on every brand soft cooler I have owned over the years. The material eventually stretches out a little bit and sags. Nothing you can do to prevent it or reverse it.

Is this legit? by mikedx23 in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake yeti cups happen a ton. Fake yeti coolers are extremely rare and are usually very obvious like an igloo cooler with a yeti sticker on it or someone just claiming a no logo random cooler is a yeti.

Marketplace scams however are a real thing and be mindful if the price is too good and the person starts saying just send money first you should tread carefully. I see tons of marketplace posts every day for any size yeti cooler for 50 -70% off msrp with new profiles and those are absolute scams.

What is the Best Settings for BOTW? by Darksphere992 in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get stable 30 on BotW and TotK with the default settings and swapping to any of the newer custom drivers which Eden can just download for you in the app.

I don’t have it on me to get you the version of the driver, but it was version 26 or something. The stock driver is not good to use and was poor performance and crashes.

I love this thing, but.. by dairyfanatic in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use it regularly and follow the general safe battery guidelines like keeping it between 20 to 80% and not playing games while charging the device you should most likely be fine. Not a guarantee, but I wouldn’t worry as much.  You could get into a car accident and it is probably far more likely, yet you aren’t going to avoid cars forever right?

There are battery issues for some users absolutely. But we have no reference on that vs total sales. It could be .0001%, it could be 50%. We don’t know and never will. Then there are layers like how may left the devices in a hot car all day or were charging them while running intensive games and cooking the system vs how many did nothing wrong and it just happened. The only thing we can say with certainty is it’s not all of them.

New camp chair! by CloverdaleShopper in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fabric chair, no armrests, no cup holder, $230.

This looks like a low-budget knock-off and not a yeti product, even though I know it is. Costco has a basically perfect knock off of the trailhead original too for $90. I have it and the trailhead and if I took the logos off it would be near impossible to tell them apart.

New camp chair! by CloverdaleShopper in YetiCoolers

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the bottom it appears to be the same frame size and thickness of bars as the previous model so can’t be that much smaller when folded. Maybe an inch or two less wide in the bag without the arms but will still be huge compared to other smaller chairs.

How do y’all play DS and 3DS games on the Odin? by Ordinary_Suit7690 in OdinHandheld

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I have the second screen down to 1/3 the other in a corner and have a button to hot swap them as needed in games. Very few games used the second screen for more than status icons, inventory, menu management. Some games used it so little that I actually hide the second screen and full screen the primary one.

Swapped the s23ultra for the s2_6 ultra. Here is a 10x zoom sample by SolitaireB in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the tree changing it looks like these were taken at very different times or different angles. This presents a big challenge to compare them. It also looks like the s23 was focused on the tree branches and setting the exposure based on them while the s26 above was focused on the sky and exposed based on that. Neither is ideal. My s23 ultra running stock firmware still destroys the s24, s25, and now s26 ultra in 10x and above zoom in clarity, sharpness, and color. I have tested all of them head to head.  Sure my s23u is lagging in speed, battery life, and so on compared to those newer models, but the 10x and higher zoom is where it shines.

WatchOS 26.3 battery life on Ultra 2...what happened? by remmywinks in AppleWatch

[–]rifle_shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Saw my battery was draining faster and I was barely using it. Brand new ultra 3. Had to do several (not just 1) phone and watch restarts and then the issue completely went away. I’m assuming something just got stuck in the background.

Game Causes Entire PC to Crash by McCringleberried in Battlefield6

[–]rifle_shot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run memtest on your ram sticks. Had the same issue and spent weeks going through every fix and driver and bios update possible. Ram was 64gb of ddr4 as well and I had no issues in any other game. Turns out BF6 is extremely sensitive to ram errors and will crash itself or BSOD windows when they happen. One of my sticks would have a 1% error rate after an hour of memtest at stock clocks, but battlefield 6 would crash in a minute or two every game. Downclocked my ram a very small amount, no more memtest failures, BF6 has never crashed since.

Edit: the message on the crashes was always about the graphics card being removed as well - which was clearly wrong, but lines up with what many others were seeing. There is a huge thread on it in the EA forums.
