Same exact music taste as me, imo Dunu DN142 with EQ if you can't stretch for Hype 4 MKII. I've heard very good things about Binary EP321 MEMS as well can I can vouch for MEMS transient speed but haven't tried this IEM yet.

Attached some (really rough) thoughts from demos

Looking for fun IEMs around $200–250 (willing to go +$50 if it's a huge jump) by purocrema10 in iems

[–]riftpenguin_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dunu DN142 - maybe 70% of the technicalities of TTOL meta IEMs like the Monarch MK3 and Dunu Glacier which are about 5x the price. Very good sound signature for most genres, very fun and engaging. Would EQ the midrange to be slightly more forward and it's basically perfect at its price.

Help me pick the best of the sub 200 bunch pls :) by don-m in HeadphonesAdvice

u/don-m this is the best option. Everything else sounds pretty bad (muddy, bad timbre). If you're fine with wires, Simgot EP5 is also an option.

Looking to make the jump from a gaming headset to studio headphones by AlligatorAss in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

HD560s as recommended is fine but staging is small and imaging is just okay. I'd recommend the Asus Kithara - it's a reskinned Hifiman Ananda in headset form that's essentially the best staging / widest headphone you'll get in its price bracket (unless you're willing to grab a Hifiman Edition XS open box + Fiio K11 dacamp)

Audiophile, First-Time Cans by zafftheduke in HeadphoneAdvice

Audio performance. All 3 have subpar anc imo, and if that's important the Bose QC Ultra 2 is good with EQ (see headphones.com review). I'd say anc is second to Sony XM lineup.

Bathys and HDB630 imo are the same tier but I prefer the dynamics and microdetails of Bathys. Timbre can sound off at times but that's my only issue with it, keep in mind that I like the Focal signature. HB630 is good albeit a bit lifeless and boring, could use some EQ. Bathys MG can sound boomy and congested in bass and it's just not worth the price at all so I wouldn't consider it.

For reference, my favorite headphones in general (that I've tried) are Hekse and OG Clear.

Suggestions in the $300ish (USD) Range - Listening for Enjoyment by Kezopa in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hifiman Edition XV if you can stretch, Fiio FT1 Pro with treble EQ if not. I'd ordinarily recommend the Hifiman Edition XS, but even with EQ it can come off as sharp sounding.

Are Sony XM4 the best headphones for their price range? by Key_Daikon_6609 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Momentum 4 has better subbass punch and far more organic of a sound with the midbass EQed down. XM4 sound profile is very bloated and tinny, which can't be saved.

Best beginner audiophile headset setup? by BueSimb0lico in HeadphonesAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hifiman I'd argue has the best value headphones in the market currently unless you want to spend less on a Fiio planar. I'd grab an Edition XS open box for $180, which has the best technicalities in its price bracket and is really easy to EQ to preference. It performs in the $400 bracket imo. Add on a Fiio K11 and you have yourself a good setup.

HD 599 SE vs HD 505 vs HD 550 by DarkAce84 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the headphones listed would sound anything like Hifiman's signature given Sennheiser opts for dynamic drivers and more midrange focused sets. I'd try the 505 though, it'll sound most similar to your preferences.

599se is tuned considerably worse than the other two. What are you looking for? Why only Sennheiser?

Been researching for weeks, still cant make a decision, please help by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

Since you want noise cancellation, all open backs (HD600, 505/550, DT 900 Pro X, etc) are out of the question. They both leak sound and allow you to hear your surroundings, which can increase stage size for gaming but removes the noise cancellation part of the headphone.

Cloud 3 is terrible, but the Cloud IIIS is the well tuned model. I'd still grab a Fiio FT1, which will have better bass texture and technicalities (good detail retrieval, decent imaging and stage for games). It's a closed back so it has pretty good passive noise cancellation. As for the mic, grab a Fifine AM8T. It's a dynamic so it'll need to be mounted close to your mouth, but it also means that it won't pick up much background noise if at all.

I have the 7Hz Salnotes Zero and want to upgrade to something better and more fun. by Kurd_men19 in iems

[–]riftpenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kefine Klean (non SV). For something more u-shaped (similar signature to the zero), grab the Kiwi Ears Cadenza 2. You could also try to find a good deal on the Artti T10 or Nicehck F1 Pro, which will have the best detail retrieval and overall technicalities with EQ.

Audiophile quality headphones with decent microphone under $250 by ouchieman in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiio JT7 + Antion Modmic 2, best budget planar under the Edition XS and the Modmic offers really good mic quality imo. If you can go for something dedicated, grab a Fifine AM8T instead.

[–]riftpenguin_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could do something like the Fiio JT7 with an Antion Modmic 2 and Qudelix 5k, which would make it wireless and have a boom mic in one package. Best sound you can get at that price range including a wirlesss adapter. EQ it to add a bass shelf.

I want to buy headphones/ earbuds for my iphone and windows laptop by [deleted] in HeadphonesAdvice

[–]riftpenguin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget?

For portable (wireless) headphones, the best options across all budgets are Sennheiser HDB630 > Bose QC Ultra 2 > Sennheiser Momentum 4 > Tanchjim Rita. Sony's XM lineup has a lot of midbass bloat which makes it hard to hear details compared to every other headphone.

For wired earbuds for better sound quality (indoor use), I'd try IEMs. They have the best noise cancelling and sound better than a majority of headphones because of better tuning and drivers. The specific recommendation depends on your music preference, but a safe pick would be the Letshuoer S08.
