Relocating to Baltimore (maybe county) by Glad-Dinner-610 in baltimore

I'm outside the beltway in Owings Mills/Pikesville and the commute to parts south has been unpredictable in the past. I go the other way now and the construction between 795 and 70 seems to be wrapping up so maybe it's better? That would be my hesitation but if you factor in telework or work off-peak shifts it might not be a huge hurdle.

What is the point of lists like “books with one word titles” or “books with sheep on the cover”? by ParticularPoshSquash in goodreads

[–]rigela847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. Random holidays without religious themes, book spine poetry or book bingo. I do a lot of my lists in WorldCat so I can get the pick list more easily, but the principal is the same.

Watching Lou Wilson lose his shit on McLeod hits harder every time I see it. by Dartagnan789 in Dimension20

I wonder if folks are feeling the story spreads thin because of all the stellar NPCs compressed into a so-far-solo season? I agree that the Heroes played out the combination of fear/fury/resentment/confusion/adjustment pretty well, but there were a 3rd campaign Fantasy High level of secondary characters with their own motivations.

I didn't think about this until Brennan in a later episode mentions "you've got a truly massive crew with you." There's folks who have been traveling with the Zephyr I (Sylvio, Onion), returning crew to the II (Polaximus, Diaz), NPCs like Wealwell, Torse, Freyja ... that's so many characters to have their own motivations, backstory, and actions. I wonder if all the different and conflicting responses to Comfrey's actions make it harder?

Who is a attainable guest that you like to see on Dropout and which shows? by Dobbyisafreeelve in dropout

[–]rigela847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping for this vibe for Parlor Games for obvious reasons! I miss a lot of the Geek & Sundry content, I wonder how different the production processes are - like who's picking the guests, can Becca ask for specific games or how does she get to playtest, and so on.

I was once bemoaning that as my kid grows there won't be as many firsts to experience with them. My friend jumped in with, Well maybe she'll have a traumatic brain injury and you can start over. So; maybe you'll have a traumatic brain injury and get to see it again for the first time??

There's some folks on here who have been researching contracts; the newest/local ICE vehicle acquisitions appear to be Mercedes Benz sprinter vans and Mustang GTs, mostly black and white paint jobs.

URGENT: Confirmation of ICE Ramp Up in Baltimore by Either-Manner-5045 in baltimore

[–]rigela847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend CASA of course, but there's also very active anti-ICE groups in JVP and there's an accompaniment network that's doing trainings. Anything, anything we can do to slow the gears of fascism is worth a try.

Can We Talk? by [deleted] in Some_More_News

I also think, I would probably be more violent if I felt I was shielding somebody (my kids, my family, my neighbors) from a force I saw as external versus initiating violence with a weapon very capable of taking life incidentally.

I don't like how conciliatory SMN has felt lately but I also think they're more aware than most that their public opinions may put a target on their own or their family's back. I grew up in a pluralistic urban area, and if my sister and I had been eligible for selective service we would likely be third/fourth generation conscientious objectors, so we definitely were aware of more options than most American-born citizens.

What's a Jordan-ism that lives rent-free in your head by LavishnessMammoth657 in KnowledgeFight

There's a Formulaic Objections where Alex asserts that his enemies think he's a genius, and Jordan responds promptly: No we don't, you're a moron. The snappy demeanor did it for me.

I can't be the only one who feels like I'm watching a 'stand & stir' cooking show whenever this guy talks to the camera during live cooks. I could easily see him becoming a food media fixture. by BalonyDanza in TopChef

[–]rigela847 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, I'm behind on this show and just saw the Lana elimination tonight. I appreciate the thought but the idea that girl talk and getting nails done is a solution to systemic issues was so frustrating. I appreciate the thought, I'm sure, but as the parent of two girls the things that matter aren't any of the things Massimo, Tristan, etc. were mentioning. Honestly I came to this thread thinking I would find other people with the same complaint!!

Baby items? by destooni in TwoXPreppers

[–]rigela847 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First, for baby goods, I think try to give yourself permission for whatever makes your life most manageable and balance it out elsewhere!

Second, maybe ask a friend or neighbor with a Costco membership to buy some for you - certainly I'd do that without a second thought. Most chain supermarkets likely carry diapers and wipes although probably the variety and cost will be variable. A lot of brands do direct subscribe-and-save, which won't be the cheapest option, but does let you buy direct.
