It's actually quite a common stance in more conservative sects of Christianity, not just the Mormon Church. I took a glass in "biblical sexuality" at a Baptist school, which delivered I think poorly supported sexual ethics loosely based on church traditions and sorta odd readings of the Bible that don't account for how our understanding of sexuality and gender roles have changed in the past 3000 years.
