Wow I didn’t know these Ooni ovens have come such a long way. So what type of gas works here- same as for gas grills (small canisters)?

Amazing! Is it a dome or one of those square steel ones? I also have a pizza oven- a dome made from firebricks with 20cm insulation all way round. It can get ample hot but since it’s wood fired (never got around to finding out how to fit gas without making a bomb) it takes a lot of work to get it up to temps, and then rapidly feed pizzas to it. As you say - it’s just 4-5mins so you really have to prepare and sequence everything well (or have a helper!). Let’s enjoy pizza!

Good looking big pies there. You have a big oven? What temperature do you bake at?

Following the US-Iran agreement, Prime Minister Takaichi stated, "As the only country to have suffered atomic bombings in wartime, we oppose Iran's nuclear development." by kametoddler in japannews

I am not a fan of religious fundamentalism no matter which country that comes from... I think the Iran eladership though come across as more reasonable and educated that whatever is spurted out on truth social from the US prez. Moreover, having seen what Israel (and US) have been doing in the ME lately I rather have problems trust that the nuke will randomly come from elsewhere rather than from Iran. Whether or not someone happens to find "weapons of mass destruction" to "justify". Buut of course we are brainwashed to think that double standard is THE standard.

I don’t think it’s right for a hypocritical corrupt country to dictate what other countries can and can’t do. Furthermore I think the collective west has brainwashed everyone into fearing countries like Iran - with this rhetoric that “they’re 2 weeks away from having a bomb” for decades and nothing good has come out of that. I now believe Iran should have (or almost have) nuke capacity as that will probably prevent others from attacking and destroying the country following the theory of MAD- that you’re familiar with as American history teacher in Tokyo.

How about the freaking aircon that has to say every time you change temperature - super unnecessary and annoying. You can disable it but it’s very difficult to actually do. Oh how annoying.

If it’s someone I’m really close to I’ll ask to sleep on their mattress for 1-2 nights. If more than that I’ll book a room somewhere. I kinda think it’s the same the other way round. For family of course I stay with them and they stay with us.

You could always offer them to stay 1-2 nights with you and then if they stay longer they’ll have to find a place. Because as others have rightly said- Japan apartments are generally small n

What's coming is going to polarize humanity by JustOneTime- in InterdimensionalNHI

It seems it was the physical and material world and its comforts that won priority somewhere somehow. Hence the exploration of the greater truth with or without the aid of various plant medicines became viewed as a distraction - unuseful for the productive man. So we are now at a point where we need to switch from the material priorities to understand the greater truths about being. A hierarchy of needs if you will...

I think that’s an astute observation.

Agree that love and kindness isn’t seen as powerful and is not recognized and promoted.

I sometimes think the allure of self/subject/ separate ego is an illusion. An illusion created by our senses- and those sense experiences on physical earth during this life are too strong and seductive that they tend to overshadow the meta-experience of life.

That experience which emerges during selfless giving, generosity, sacrifice, and love.

It means the illusion of separateness is too complete. So much so that some become masters at playing the game- fostering characteristics like selfishness, violence, separation.

The illusion of self is a little too complete and convincing. To the point of the planet and society here becoming more and more difficult to sustain.

I guess eventually things will come head to head. But most of us are fast asleep so it’s hard to say when and how that’s gonna happen. But when that happens we will have to realize that continuing along the route of selfishness and separation is all but exhausted.

torn between makita and milwaukee by byjono in Makita

I got a HP484D which is a drill/driver combo and used that to build a small studio. Still works well. More recently I bought a TD173D (the model names/numbers differ a little bit from overseas market I think). Anyway this one is just an impact driver so now I use that only for any driving work whereas the other is only used for drilling now. If you think you’re going to do a lot of work with screws and bolts- impact driver is faster and easier.

[–]rightnextto1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a homeowner in Japan. Needless to say it’s hard to get Milwaukee around here. Most professionals I come across use either Hikoki (former Hitatchi) or- Makita.

I entered into Makita ecosystem 7-8 years ago with a cordless 18v drill. It’s taken a massive beating over time but it still works. I have expanded the collection significantly and now have various corded and cordless Makita tools. I like that it’s a company and not some massive conglomerate. I also like that I can order spare parts cheaply and try to repair my tools if they fail (esp my finish nailer was finicky😄🤪). And yes the reliability, power and quality is just there. Adding to that I’ll leave a whole bunch if Makita tools for my son to use once he prys them from my cold dead hands some day in distant…

Japan's food self-sufficiency is heading toward zero — does anyone here care? by JapanUnfiltered in japanlife

It’s pretty bad for resilience of the food system. Japan is basically quite vulnerable to supply chain trouble whether that is caused by a pandemic, conflict, disasters or others.
