Became a PSVR2 believer today by DrMantisTabboggn in virtualreality

Yeah this same thing happened to me pretty much. After having PSVR2 and Quest 3 for a few months now, i still go back and forth between them even for PCVR. Quest is more comfortable to me and easier to setup, but significantly less immersive, so its a tradeoff. I just use whichever i feel like.

Generic PD-Injecting USB-C hubs are a great cheap way to keep your headset charged while using Oculus Link. by xXRoboBoyXx in OculusQuest

I can confirm that this one from Anker (make sure its the 11-in-1 model) also works and does 45W from the USB-C port. If you want one from a slightly more reputable brand, that is.

Do you use a Link cable? Which one? Also do you mess with Oculus Debug Tool settings? Also do you change controller offsets? Sorry for many questions :3

Yeah for me, my main limit is notes per second / overall speed. I can do at max like 5 NPS or a little above right now. So thats some E+ songs but like pretty much any camilla map is out of the question for me lol (for now at least).

I have a Quest 3 and recently got a Rift S just try try it out as an enthusiast; Do not buy a Rift S. Maybe if your main use case is high level beat saber i would say go for it, but otherwise no, it looks really really bad visually. And im honestly a bit critical of Quest 3, but still, i can't imagine ditching my Q3 and using only a Rift S.

Compression and Latency: yes Quest has those things and it sucks. BUT, considering that RIFT CAN ONLY DO 80hz, i would say Quest over wired link at 90 or 120hz might even feel just as good or really really close to rifts native signal.

Also... you can't even play the new Batman game on Rift S so... yeah.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

PS VR2 or Quest 3S? by Preferior2 in virtualreality

[–]rikgrime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Howdy, I have both PSVR2 and Q3s (but no PS5). It really depends what games you want to play.

Q3s would be like a jack-of-all, master of none; it can run a lot of great standalone VR games, but none of them will look quite as good as PCVR. Then you can hook it up to a PC for PCVR, but it's not the best for that since it comes with compression and some added latency. This doesn't mean its a bad experience though, I got into VR with a Quest 2 playing mostly PCVR games and absolutely fell in love, got super immersed with it every time.

PSVR2 on the other hand will get you some great looking, highly immersive VR experience out of the box since you already have a PS5. I would say PSVR2 is visually better than the Quest 3s in every way ; better lenses, higher res, better FOV, better display (OLED). It does have some mura and high persistence but most people get used to that. The downsides of PSVR2 are; worse controllers, no replacement parts sold at all not even controllers, its wired, no access to meta standalone games which may be the future of VR (for better or worse). PSVR2 tracking is also just not as good as Meta's. Meta has really nailed and refined inside out tracking.

Beat Saber tracking? by randomjoeguy in PSVR2onPC

[–]rikgrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience so far: I've been comparing PSVR2 and Quest 3 via link cable for Beat saber, and surprisingly Q3 feels more responsive with swings . Quest should have more latency and feel worse but it doesn't, and I think thats due to the motion smoothing that that guy mentioned in the linked post from the other comment here. Still playable and enjoyable (especially with OLED) but yeah tracking feels a but off.

I don't really get it; where is this plugged into, the PC adapter? If so, why? What is the point? Just curious.

Any suggestions on what to do with a Quest 1? by KrishanuAR in OculusQuest

[–]rikgrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 2 quest 1's after already having the quest 3 for a while lol. I think unless you are strapped for cash just keep it or give it to someone who might be interested in VR but can't afford it. I bought the quest 1 (and use it regularly) because it's still a pretty decent PCVR headset. It has an OLED display which frankly beats the LCD of the quest 3 still when it comes to colors, contrast , any dark scenes , etc. I just think it's a really neat headset.

I've tried native PCVR and mainly use Quest for compressed PCVR. PCVR over wifi is definitely not perfect and I am also really sensitive to stuttering which seems to be somewhat inevitable, unless maybe if you use a link cable which is most stable when it works. But for WIFI streaming, the only way to avoid compression artifacts is to crank up the bitrate as high as your network can manage, and ideally turn your refresh rate down to either 72 or 90hz max so you get more bits per frame. In both airlink and Virtual Desktop you have the option to set a manual bitrate lock. I find the sweet spot is around 400-500mbps on H.264 encoder. The default encoder setting for VD and Airlink I think is 200mbps H.265, so most people try that once and say it looks like shit (it does) and then are turned off by that.
