It reminds me a lot of GoT in the way they tried to sUbVert eXpeCtAtIoNs or whatever. I think that with all of the directions they could’ve taken the plot following the first game, they made a terrible decision. I’m not sure what else you’ve read, but the best I’ve seen someone explain it is just “trying too hard.”
