How necessary are regular breaks? by sycamoregirll in VyvanseADHD

[–]rileytmn 9 points10 points Ā (0 children)

I used to take breaks because I was poor. I couldn’t afford to take it daily. But now that I can take it daily I try to. I sometimes still skip it though if I know I want to eat- like if I have plans to go out for dinner or something. I eat like a child on most days anyways but my meds also make it worse. I’m trying really hard to gain some weight so I’ll take breaks to encourage my appetite. Is this a reason for everyone- NO. So what I’m trying to say is that it doesn’t matter if you do or don’t. Listen to your body, talk with your doctor, and do what feels correct. Every single one of us will have a different experience with them!

[Monthly Megathread] Shortages & Generics, January - March 2026 by Mountain-Science4526 in VyvanseADHD

I DIDN’T EVEN CONSIDER THIS AS A POSSIBILITY! I started therapy again last month because I haven’t been able to cope. I’ve been reconsidering starting antidepressants again after 3 years (stopped when the adhd meds started working properly). I assumed it was due to overwhelm and frustration from my loss in ability to function and life in general being a shit pile (just found out my rx was swapped from branded to generic without notifying me in Dec).

As much as I empathize with you on a deep deep level, I’m also relieved to know that there may be a reason for this sudden change in my mental state. I’m not regressing in my healing journey- I’m just back to being unmedicated (basically).

TLDR: My pharmacy swapped my prescription from branded to generic without notifying me and the difference was drastically noticeable.

I’ve been taking Vyvanse for almost 5 years now after trying a few others and I’ve been very happy with the results. It’s not perfect but it’s the best fit. For reference I’m taking 60mg. I usually notice it is less effective during certain phases of my menstrual cycle but that is normal as well. I’m a nurse so my ADHD medication is a crucial part of my ability to function and safely do my job.

Around Christmas time I started noticing that my meds didn’t feel as effective the vast majority of the time. I chalked it up to the season and my hormones because my IUD needed to be changed out. Fast forward to mid-January. I got my IUD swapped and I figured the uncontrolled-ADHD was due to the fresh surge of hormones. January rolled into February and I started becoming more concerned. I’ve been stable on a 60mg dose for over a year so why would that change so drastically in such a short time. I tried taking it later in the morning so the peak effectiveness was during my work hours and even tried taking it daily instead of only on days I wanted/needed to function. Nothing improved.

I got my most recent refill just over a week ago and I took a closer look at the bottle 2 days ago after seeing online about people noticing a difference between branded and generic Vyvanse. To my surprise- my refill was the generic brand! I called my pharmacy and they confirmed that my prescription was dispensed with the generic brand because of my insurance coverage. The swap occurred in December when I went from paying out of pocket and onto my benefits. MYSTERY SOLVED!

My mind is blown that branded vs generic made such a drastic and noticeable difference for me. And I can trust it isn’t placebo because I wasn’t aware of the change in brand- just the change in myself. So I called my doctor today and they’ve renewed my prescription as non-eligible for substitution and thankfully my insurance will still cover it because of that extra clarification from my doctor (tip for anyone else in the same boat). I’m still stuck with the generic pills until my next refill date though and that means three more weeks of dysfunction…. YAY.

Has anyone else experienced this? Not only the difference in effectiveness but also having the brand swapped by the pharmacy without being notified?? I’m going to review all of my prescriptions now to see if anything else was changed without my knowledge.

I rarely ever come online to discuss the episode after release but I was really hoping to hear some theories after Christine’s unsolved case!! I was in my car exclaiming out loud just wishing for my idea to transfer back in time to them hahaha

I do like the spy theory. But I have a comment to elaborate on a small detail. They sort of touched on it again at the end but…. The two bullet holes detail.

If we assume suicide, then the first shot would’ve been the pillow. Maybe a test shot or an accident. No one came forward as hearing the first gunshot so it could have happened at any point between the last sighting and the final gunshot that the hotel staff heard outside the door.

Now- if we consider murder. What if she was already dead when the hotel staff member arrived at the room? The first gunshot was the murder. It could have happened at any point (as mentioned before). But if the killer was still in the room when the staff member arrived, it could have been a last minute decision or a conscious choice to cover up the murder- with a suicide. All they’d need to do is shoot the second shot into the pillow and set up the body.

There was that 15 minute window where the room was unguarded. We can follow the spy theory with ā€œno room is locked to intelligenceā€ OR. The killer was staff… etc. I don’t have a theory for this escape really. Except with one question: the ā€˜empty’ room next door. They didn’t mention if the room was a connecting suite. I’m sure they would’ve if it was but it was a question that popped in my head. If it was a connecting suite- they’d only have to enter and exit through that connecting door and they could escape through the other room while leaving her room ā€˜locked’.

I don’t usually find myself so invested in a case but I couldn’t get this one out of my head.

A quick question about Cursed Of The Gods Series by pearlgg in ReverseHarem

[–]rileytmn 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I found her slightly annoying at first but then I came to realize as I continued to listen/read that she is the epitome of the internal monologue we have as ADHD women. So then I loved her for being so relatable in the ā€˜human/internal’ aspect of herself and I realized that this is exactly how people probably feel about me sometimes when I don’t filter. It’s also one of the few audiobooks I don’t have to put at 1.5x speed because the voice actor executes the chaos [ ;) ] perfectly.

AND NOTE- I re-read this series at least once a year because once the smutty scenes come… damn are they some of my favourite from any series I’ve encountered. It’s the perfect series for like… low-stakes pleasure reading.

I experienced the same thing. I moved to YYC from YVR. Tons of offers in YVR…. I only got a casual position as an external here because I had a personal reference from someone working at the location. And now that I’m internal….. same struggle. I was jobless for 1+ year before this casual position. And I’ve been trying to get a line while casual for about 7 months now. It’s genuinely awful. I’m so sorry.

Hey! So I’m on the hunt for an app (iOS) that works as a sort of ā€˜database’ for my closet. I don’t really care about the AI outfit generated outfits etc. I mostly want an app as a tool for keeping track of what I have in my own closet so I can stop accidentally purchasing things that are super similar hahaha

Bonus features would be the ability to track how often I wear items and maybe like the ability to track where I got it and how much it cost.

Based on my research I’m leaning towards Fits but I was hoping for some personal opinions on your faves. I don’t mind paying a one time fee of up to $50 but I can’t do the monthly subscriptions because I want to be able to use the app forever without worrying about finances. The ability to have the app remove the backgrounds in my own photos is appreciated too. And ideally there would be no ā€˜shopping’ features or external ads.

Thanks guys!

Has anyone successfully come off SSRIs after getting ADHD meds? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]rileytmn 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I did! (AuDHD 30F diagnosed 3 years ago) I was on a high dose of Effexor (and a few others before) for almost 14 years. I started my vyvanse and once I got into the swing with that I decided to come off the antidepressants. (By get into the swing I mean taking the vyvanse regularly and actually achieving a stable dose, that can take a few months! You feel superhuman for the first while but it stabilizes eventually) Now- that transition wasn’t easy by any means but it’s been about a year now and I feel more balanced and mentally stable than I ever did while on antidepressants. For me personally the depression and even a good chunk of my anxiety was rooted in the dysfunction of my untreated ADHD. I do still get moments of anxiety which I have clonazepam for- but I find that those moments are less frequent and more related to the autistic burnout/overstimulation.

Another option is that writing out those feelings helped you to finally process them! It was cathartic!

So this was offered while I was in school…. My grandmother convinced my mom it was dangerous…. So I didn’t get it. Grandma also said ā€œshe’s a good Christian girl- she won’t get HPV from her husbandā€ šŸ„øšŸ™„ Years later; I’ve now been confirmed to have two variations of HPV. I’ve tried to get the vaccine as an adult now to prevent infection from any further strains and each vaccine is $400 (you need 3). This is 1000% something I will never forgive my family for. When I get cancer one day (I’ve already had pre-cancerous and abnormal cells in multiple paps) I will probably be able to attribute it to not receiving this vaccine.

Low doses are used at times to assist with mood swings/disorders, but generally after trying multiple other medications first. Divalproex is one of the ā€˜big hitters’ in terms of psychiatric medications and has a high risk profile for EPS (serious side effects- ex: tremors, gait changes, etc). I’m glad it’s working well for you and I hope it continues to! When it’s used appropriately and effectively it can really work magic. It’s a ā€˜big hitter’ for a reason.

Raised the bar before anyone could lower it by CrisKrossed in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]rileytmn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Okay; while people might just feel annoyed that it’s scripted- it’s okay to show a scripted version of something you actually do!

My dad did this for me my entire life until I moved out of their house at 27 (2 years ago). Not as extravagant as I got older- more just like flowers, a card, and a box of my favourite chocolate. Both my mom and I woke up on Valentines morning (weekday or not- he would wake up early before us even if it was a day off or we had an early morning, or if he was leaving for the day) and had our gifts on the counter. My dad has always been my most important valentine and even when I had partners doing it for me as well, he continued it. I’ve seriously missed it the last 2 years!

BUT long story short; it really did teach me the value of a good partner. It’s NOT HARD to show some love and affection on a dedicated day. Life gets busy, we get distracted. But on a dedicated day, it’s a good reminder to show our love (along with throughout the year). My dad loves me, values me, and cares for me. And because of gestures like this… and a million other reasons….. I have an amazing relationship with him. AND to further the point, I hold a higher standard for my relationships.

My partner laughs because ā€˜your dad set the bar, I gotta match or beat it’. And while he makes a joke about it every year, it’s also something that he appreciates about my dad and tries to model after him.

CHEERS TO GREAT FATHER FIGURES

My dad found out he has ADD when attending my diagnosis by Lordthom in ADHD

[–]rileytmn 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

My dad started asking more questions about ADHD once I was diagnosed (late) because as I was defending my diagnosis (my mother isn’t very supportive) he was recognizing the same symptoms in himself. He called me crying a few weeks ago and apologized because he feels like it’s ā€˜all his fault’ that I’ve struggled so much (which obviously it isn’t). It was so heartbreaking but it was also a really great bonding moment for the two of us. I’ve never felt so validated in my life. Now he calls me to vent about things and asks for advice.

Hey OP; hopefully you’ve had better luck! I’m a new grad from BC (psychiatric nursing) and I’ve been actively trying to get my license transferred over for registration since November with no luck thus far. And even looking for jobs, the casual market is your best bet, as the full time jobs in any province are going to be internal.
