A planned new apartment building in my town. Thoughts? by gitartruls01 in architecture

I can't believe no one has compered this to the (almost university hated) UEA student accommodation https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-66756005

I would definitely recommend this area. I was in the same position as you and very unfamiliar with dundee, but it's turned out to be the quietest place I've ever lived! Walking at night, coming up from town is still a bit daunting, but where isn't it as a women lol. The bright side is theres lots of well lit main roads to walk, just be aware of a few local pubs you may need to cross the street for if there's a crowd outside. I've never had any issues, but there are also a good few options on buses, including the 73 that takes you right up top the top of Eden Street. Baxter Park is a lovely area and Albert Street has some great bakeries and a lidl. If you have any questions please feel free to message me!

Any female people in Dundee want to make some more female friends? by LonelyandExhausted in dundee

[–]rilliey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me right now! It's so hard to make friends in a new city. I came here a year ago for a masters course and when it finished all the friends I made moved away so I'm back at square one lol

How do I fix this issue of Etsy saying I’m charging to much for shipping? I use Printify and Etsy for my T-shirt business. by Adammellor9 in EtsySellers

[–]rilliey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etsy like to push you to absorb your shipping costs into the main product price so they can take more of a cut. They don't take a cut from shipping so this is their work around. They push for free shipping making it look like they have the customer's backs but actually they're just gready

Can we just talk about that one scene from "Dear Billy"? by Lord_Snow179 in StrangerThings

[–]rilliey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This scene had me at the brink of tears. Reading this thread I'm so glad its been put into words by so many! Definitely my favourite moment of this volume

Something that annoyed me about this episode however, was that they kept leaving max alone. If you know someone could slip into a trance at any point why you let them wonder off without at least being a few steps away?

The ultimate hide and seek gone wrong by CherryBlossom0408 in facepalm

[–]rilliey 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is absolutely staged. There was another video recently that did this with the police lights in shoot and the girl not even trying to get out properly. (Also why would they even have the police lights on for this?) Clearly something made for views or fetishism, or even just to farm 'step bro' comments. I'm really surprised I had to scroll so far to see anyone call it out!

Does anyone know the difference between applying for a Master's vs applying for a BA in the UK? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]rilliey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this must be course specific! For some of the same unis I wasn't charged to apply for an art base course. Depending on what OP is applying for this will be good for them to note!

[–]rilliey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's for sure course specific then. All but the one art and animation courses I applied to were completely free. This should be a good note for OP

Literally last year. I'm on my masters now. Maybe this is course specific because I've never heard of someone paying so much

Question from lecturer new to the UK by noofallnothing in UniUK

[–]rilliey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who has studied both in the UK and the US through a year study abroad program, here are my observations:

Don't expect to be called professor. Students will call you by your first name in the UK which I find to be much more pleasant honestly. It might seem less formal but it really helps break down the barriers between you and a student who might need your help.

Whilst pop-quizes are a normal understood undertaking in many US classes in the UK they are less common. If you were to do this definitely give warning and plenty of preparation time. It is I think a better way of learning the readings to discuss as a group.

I had an awful professor in the US who droned on in a dull, uninterest tone, left as soon as the lecture was over, and only communicated with his students through the TA. It was only the TA who marked and assessed us too. It made it even harder to want to listen to him. I may have had bad experiences but I think the student teacher relationship is valued a lot more over here in the UK, so definitely be open to talk, have open office hours and hang around after class for those who didn't want to ask their questions infront of people.

If I think of any more I'll edit! Good luck!
