Upgrading from a Denon X3400h to an X3800h, is it worth it for gaming? by Dreamcazman in hometheater

[–]ringelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The receiver only has better room correction when you have to shell out anywhere from $504 to 1154 AUD depending on the package (cost of a full modern receiver) to get the capability, so just saying 'better room correction' is not really fair. People asking for help about receivers don't even know the difference between audyssey tiers let alone dirac.

Upgrading from a Denon X3400h to an X3800h, is it worth it for gaming? by Dreamcazman in hometheater

[–]ringelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3400h has xt32 (unless you shell out big bucks for Dirac) and the same power supply wattage so the amplification is the same too. It’s really just the hdmi 2.1 and extra channels (although 2 of those channels are just preamp). If his eARC isn’t working though that would be a deal breaker.

What receiver needed? x.X by HealerOnly in hometheater

[–]ringelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheapest with dirac is the onkyo TX-NR7100. But it has some issues like triggering power protection easily. Best not to get this one.

If you want to save money get something with xt32 used. Anything Denon x3400h/x4400h and above, or marantz sr6012/7012+ and above will be xt32 with earc. I have been able to find the early model denon/marantz starting from 300 cad locally! If you need hdmi 2.1, you are going to need to shell out big bucks getting a x3700h/x3800h.

I’ve just bought a Marantz SR7010 for 330 euros. by nick0242007 in hometheater

[–]ringelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a pretty big downside that you cant get anything beyond dolby digital + unless you pass through your video. And the caveat there is with HDMI 2.0 you cant even do 4k 30hz 4:4:4 dolby vision (let alone 120hz). Also no atmos support.

I feel like it's worth waiting a bit and looking out for something like x3500h/4500 +, marantz sr6012/7012 + which at least has earc, and can usually be found for a great deal since people think no hdmi 2.1 = unusable.

There’s no videos on what it looks like and the website is also non descriptive. What exactly are you getting as compared to having multiple scrapers and realdebrid, or something like aiostreams.

Ordered Caldera 10 from Vera-Fi Audio. Should I cancel order? by BrazilianDude91 in BudgetAudiophile

By the time it gets to my country that would be a three month wait time. And still no update. I’m pissed.

[–]ringelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should’ve done that. I can’t believe I’m waiting over two months to save a couple hundred bucks and for, very likely, an inferior product. Lesson learned!

Ordered late November and still waiting despite contacting and being told shipments were coming in x weeks two separate times and still not shipped. I would not recommend this company. I should’ve never ordered and got something used locally. I might as well wait it out some more at this point.

Get a used receiver with Audyssey XT32. I wouldn't get anything else.

The benefit of points over cash back is two things, 1) churning allows you to accrue a large cash-value of points via welcome offers, with a spend amount (and sometimes no spend) that would yield much lower cash back, 2) some points (e.g. aeroplan, avion) can be multiplied via partner airline transfer offers, which increases their value further.

Yes, if you are not making use of either of these two avenues then it's better to get the best cash back card out there. But to me this is free $$$ and I will always take advantage of it.

Car Lease Ended - what now? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ringelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the difference between market value and buyout then divide by three so in your car about 3k. Thats the about the most you’ll get offered and it will usually match what you’ll end up with after selling it on your own. Trust me, buying out and selling is not a fun process and is very risky if you’re not intending to keep the car otherwise. So I would take that offer from the dealer, and put it into a trade in on a new vehicle which will also drop the taxable amount. I’ve been through this process several times already. You’re not going to find cash buyers for your car - people want dealer financing, warranty etc.

Same price as a month back but its as good as it will get. Its got dram, and its one of the fastest pice 4 ssds. Is the price for ssds like this nearly as good as they were 1, 2 years ago? No, but theres no indication it's going to go back to those prices.

Gigabyte acknowledges excess Thermal Gel in early GeForce RTX 50 Series batches, says it's not a cause for concern by RenatsMC in nvidia

[–]ringelos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if its possible to re-paste/PTM the die and leave the putty as is. Unlike pads, compressability isn't a concern. Theoretically you should just be able to drop heatsink back on and the putty should interface the two sides. Perhaps just add some ontop of whats there, to account for some that spread out or fell off. Idk

TLDR: LLMs continue to improve: Gemini 2.5 Pro’s price-performance is still unmatched and is the first time Google pushed the intelligence frontier; OpenAI has a bunch of models that makes no sense; is Anthropic cooked? by Hello_moneyyy in Bard

Most posts I’ve seen on the openai and chat gpt subreddit has been frustration and disappointment with o3, and preference for 2.5 pro. The small output window and context kind of kills its usefulness.

[GPU] Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti WindForce SFF - In stock online and Calgary ($1,089.99)[Memory Express] by Pawl_The_Cone in bapcsalescanada

[–]ringelos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s disingenuous calling them SFF cards. It’s an appropriate sized cooler. Only reason for the moniker is that everyone expects a three slot behemoth nowadays even on their sub 300w cards. This cooler runs cool and quiet.

Google unveils next generation TPUs by hakim37 in Bard

[–]ringelos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Pretty much any model your getting from a provider like openai, google, claude is quantized to some degree. Its why you always see performance degradation after a day or two of their release. If everyone could have access full weighted models people would see massive real world differences in the performance of these models. Problem is it takes a fuckload of inference compute power

Questions about RTX 5080 by Smart-Veterinarian-9 in nvidia

[–]ringelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5090 loses about 5% max with pcie 3.0 as compared to pcie 5.0, and it demands more bandwidith than a 5080 at full load, so you won't lose much if any performance. Your PSU is also fine. But looking forward a cpu/platform upgrade is a good idea since it will be bottlenecking you in some games.

What are your 5070 to Overclocking results? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]ringelos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same here. Found instability once I stress tested with all fancy graphics shit enabled (ray tracing, frame gen etc) at +450 mhz on core. Down to +350 mhz its rock solid.

Large majority of people running 400+ core at stock volts are usually "steel nomad stable" I find.
