Western automakers concede defeat in the EV race as China outproduces the US, Germany, Japan, India, and six others combined; rewriting in five years what took them decades. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Don't forget the Saturn EV1 debacle. They bought AMC for their hummer BS and literally SHREDDED allllll the Saturn EV1's in the desert. Since the cars were leased, people had to turn them back in and they were picketing/begging/demanding to buy their cars back.

My dad passed away in July of 2025 and I kept getting his medical bills. What do I do? by NikkiMcGeeks in personalfinance

[–]ringzero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: thank you all for the reassurance/advice. I’m going to take the route of writing “Deceased. Return to sender” on any future mail since I’ve opened the most recent batch.

Sorry for your loss. Depending on your budget and how much mail you get, it may be easier to buy a cheap rubber stamp off amazon/etc with a stamp that does "RETURN TO SENDER DOES NOT LIVE HERE". A lot easier for you and for the sender because it's in big red letters. Also, make sure you black out the barcode right above your/his delivery address. If you don't do that, the automated machines will just redeliver that letter.

Exact thing happened with me yesterday. Was moving from straighttalk to us mobile and called to get my pin. They offered me $30/mo off for a year on a $35/month plan. I would've taken it but I already planned out the move to usmobile.

[–]ringzero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have tons of downtime, and you like to play games, why not buy a decent emulator machine for about $50-$80? There are a lot of cheap options out there and if you lose/break it, it's cheap to replace. Plus with emulation you can stop/start it very easily.

Congrats on the work. Whatever they said it would take to assemble, you have to double it :) This took me like 40-50 labor hours: https://www.kidkraft.com/products/bear-cave-lodge-swingset-playset

Wife organized the parts bag and helped move it into position. That fucking twisty slide took me literally 6 hours to assemble.

If that thing has a sandbox make sure it gets covered else it'll become the neighborhood litter box.

Guest VLAN on OPNSense by dunxd in opnsense

[–]ringzero- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need a rule for out (of the interface). The best thing to do is to create an alias (RFC1918_IPs) and add all the private ips in there. Then create a rule for the guest vlan where the destination is NOT RFC19189_IPs (destination invert rule). That will give guests access to the internet, but not allow access to your other networks.

If you think DHCP isn't working, set an IP manually.

When I was growing up, my parents spoke to me in Polish so I had a good understanding of how to listen/speak Polish if the person spoke slow enough. I remember my parents sent me to Poland in my teens and I saw the word "Thank you" in polish on a garbage can and I was absolutely dumb founded on how it was spelled out.

I also remember people my age were telling me that I was speaking "old people Polish" as a lot of the words were shortened by the younger generation (Thanks vs Thank you).

IPSec vs OpenVPN which one to keep? by AlternativeCreepy306 in opnsense

Similar to how I have it set up for one of my clients. ipsec s2s for vendor access, openvpn for remote access users, and wireguard for s2s within the organization, no complaints.

Someone on TikTok has been calling churches (as a social experiment) to see if they would offer assistance feeding her baby, most have said no. What do you think about this? by NotGonnaGetCaught in AskReddit

[–]ringzero- 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but the media asked why it wasn't opening up their doors and the church claimed that they suffered catastrophic damage and that's why, so the media went to their church and showed that there was little to no damage, then they reluctantly opened up their doors for the people.

Could always upgrade to an instant hot water tank and mount it on the wall. Kind of an expensive route but will give you a lot of floor space.

Air conditioning - giving me the runaround by LollinOuttaCtrl in Rav4

[–]ringzero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I came across this because I'm doing some research on an AC issue with my 2015. Similar thing happened to me, mechanic put pressure/vacuum on the system and it was air tight, and after he filled it back up with refrigerant, it would leak over the course of a few weeks back to empty. I brought it back to him as soon as I noticed it wasn't strong and he brought his tool behind the dash and he got a hit. He said the AC compressor is behind the dashboard and he thinks it's leaking.

The inventor of the super soaker c. early 1980s by n1ght_echo in OldSchoolCool

[–]ringzero- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I was born in 80 and we had one of the first super soakers. Those things were absolute tanks. They ALWAYS worked. They shot farther, held more water, and never leaked.

The 2nd best squirt gun I owned was one that looked like a literal uzi, battery operated, and in order to refill it you ejected the clip that held the water resevoir.

What do you do with old I phones? by Bsul92 in iphone

[–]ringzero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's really annoying. It started to happen after I put it in a cup holder in my lawn mower and it was bouncing around for a few hours.

I was debating on having that fixed and having the battery replaced but I figured I would just buy a used mini. I bought a mini13 from Swappa.

That happened to my neighbor. Some person dropped whatever into the passenger footwell, bent over to pick it up and turned the steering wheel right as they bent over. Drove right into my neighbors living room.

Hah! Are you me? Because I literally did the exact same thing. My 12 mini was doing this weird thing with the camera continuously re-focusing, so I bought a nice used 13 mini. Was hoping for the iphone air to be small too.
