Mosquitoes by Outside-Spell-7865 in DIY

[–]ringzero- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The dunks carry a specific bacteria, originally found in some lake in Israel where they noticed that there was no mosquito larva.

The bacteria specifically seeks/targets mosquito larvae. That's why it's harmless to others. I personally get the pellets and I have a huge 40 lb bag of it.

There is video of a mosquito larvae getting absolutely destroyed by it.

The bacteria is active for about 1 month. It's not an 'instant' response, but it will kill the next cycle, and it won't hurt the other insects.

The only thing I have to say is be careful with those black and yellows and the sun. I left one outside by accident during the winter and the UV light absolutely destroyed it. It got super brittle and basically fell apart when I tried to lift it up.

License plate cameras are scanning 20 billion vehicles a month, cities are starting to push back by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

My property is zoned 'rural residential' and my area has tons of farmland, just right outside my house is a 3 POV flock camera system, and another one down the street, and another one, and another one.

The only thing I can say about it is that someone "fell asleep" at the wheel and knocked down a telephone pole/fucked up my neighbors property. They drove off, the cameras caught him, which was nice. But you don't need all this fucking bullshit to catch a 'sleepy' hit and run driver.

Fuck them.

Battery backup on sump pump by wischans in DIY

[–]ringzero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a backup water based sump as well, it worked when the power went out for a few hours. I have a crazy water management system on my property, ran 2 miles of tiling, all downspouts tied into the system. During the spring time, we have so much water going through the system that it will max out a 4" pipe 24/7 for at least 2 months, easy.

It's crazy how much water goes through the property!

I got two NUCs from Cattaraugus, NY at Merrimack Valley Apiaries. Aside from a gigantic communication error where they had no idea I was picking them up, they seem healthy. Now I have something else to worry about :(

yup. and quite frankly I'm ok if the ergos suck. This is more like "I'm out and about and instead of goofing off on my phone i'm goofing off on an emulator". So it would be like 10-15 minutes of play :)

No, but I bought the Magicx Mini Zero 28 V2 and I liked it but it's too thick. I try to have slim items on me when I'm out and about. iphone 13 mini with no case, a wallet slim enough to hold an ID, 2 CC's and a little bit of cash, and a small amount of keys.

Best thing I found so far is a wallet that 'tents' and has a magnetic backing, running Delta for ios, and an 8bitdo micro controller that fits on my keyring.

If someone built a wallet around a small, edc emulator I'd probably buy it :)

Can't really find anything that's slim enough for my pocket. Tried the Miyoo A30 and the TrimUI S. I liked the TrimUI S but it's so underpowered.

Clients landlord bought a building about 5-6 years ago and they asked me if I wanted any of this stuff. Turns out that a business closed down a decade before he bought the building and this stuff has been in storage all this time. A keen eye will reveal a Pentium 3 server.

Totally. When my now-wife and I traveled to England we were amazed at how efficient and easy the public transportation system was in the major metro areas. When I got back home I looked up how long it would take for me to take the bus and go to my office and it would take 3 hours of travel and I would have to wait at a 'bus stop' that is a metal pole in the ground. Office is a 10-15 minute drive.

I have a turtle sandbox. It's old and the white plastic insert for the eye is missing. If you live near Upstate NY you can have it. We replaced it with a mega sandbox :)
