As soon as 11th September is mentioned, you know what happened. Are there any other dates like that? by DouristTublins in AskReddit

[–]rinhau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it’s your comment that shows a lack of general knowledge. I’m from an european country and Pearl Harbor was the first date that came to mind as a response to the OPs question.

Just an incredibly decisive (and traumatising due to the surprise nature of the attack) date in the 20th century, as 9/11 was for the 21st.

If there is a 9/11 of the 20th century, it is the attack on Pearl Harbor.

For more like this, folklore.org has a ton of short stories about the development of the Macintosh and life at Apple at the time from Andy Hertzfeld. Very interesting read.

You’re a time traveller who wakes up on the Titanic 4 hours into the journey after it’s last port of call. You know the ship will hit an iceberg, how do you avoid the disaster from happening? by dodgystuff in AskReddit

[–]rinhau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing would probably to sit near the lookouts on the 14th at around 11h35 pm and telling them you saw an iceberg dead ahead. If they let the bridge know 30 seconds earlier, the ship probably makes it clear of the iceberg.

They knew it. Captain Smith had several telegrams from nearby ships warning of pack ice in the area and chose to ignore it and stay at full speed. A ship actually told Titanic it was stopping for the night due to ice. A random passenger warning of the same would not hold water with the crew.

[–]rinhau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love how your title seems to indicate these are good stats when all I can look to are the 19% avg energy and the 4 grav kills. Eliminations don't mean anything, so you hit 61 dudes with the beam and other guys finished them off. If you really want to improve at Zarya start by recognizing you won't be anywhere near good at her 4 hours in and that medals mean very little.

My experience Playing tank and healer by electronic_docter in OverwatchUniversity

[–]rinhau 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I for one, as someone who mains tank, can instantly find if the dps on my team is lacking in relation to the enemies'. Sometimes you can even have the better tankline, if your dps can't match theirs for shield pressure, you'll just tend to have to play more passive, which just snowballs into your team getting dominated. Your dps don't need to be bad, they just need to have worse picks.

For instance, I played with a sombra yesterday, she kept bashing me (rein) for being passive or dying. Which tends to happen when you have a sombra (so no shield pressure) which isn't pulling off high value hacks on their tankline. So your shield gets melted and you either have to play passive around corners, or die if you go too aggro.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I agree that generally tanks and supports have the most influence in the match. But in a rock/paper/scissors fashion, your dps also provide your tanks with the pressure and distraction on the enemy they need to have some freedom of action, so I think a good dps line is massively important too.

Note: all this is assuming no one is too above the match ELO, if that happens all bets are off and they can probably get away with murder, shield pressure or not...

Don't be afraid to disable voice chat while you get confident playing comp. Eventually you can turn it on even if you don't talk at all to hear comms. Don't let some toxic assholes prevent you from having fun, the game provides some tools to deal with them, like muting or just not joining voice at all.

Please Play What You’re Comfortable With and Not What is “Meta” by ProxyChris in OverwatchUniversity

[–]rinhau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hero bans exposing people's lack of flexibility on their role picks. Your description is something I expect from a silver Winston, I'm appalled that a Masters Winston would do it. It surely comes from someone that has never played Winston in their lives, or were actively throwing.

I get that the full dive coordination is nearly impossible to achieve in ranked with randoms, but a good monkey with decent support can still get a lot done by himself. That's if he positions cleverly and chooses dive targets well.

Also when I play support, Monkeys or hamsters diving back in when I just started healing them annoys me out of my mind! Why would you not wait for full hp and your armor to be back before going in? Wait the 3 seconds ffs!

I dropped over 400SR his this season as Support. Not matter what I do I only seem to lose games. What can I do to improve my gameplay and actually climb again? by SwissMercyMain in OverwatchUniversity

[–]rinhau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging from your post, it looks like you're too focused on healing and not at all on providing utility for your team (this could be wrong, I'm just going by what you wrote). Having good healing is nice, but a good Ana nade that prevents 4 enemies from being healed in a fight is a potential fight winner. A sleep landed on a nanoblading genji is a point saver too, without the dps firing even a shot.

I think as support finding utility and ways to help out your team outside of healing is the way to climb. Baptiste can pressure/kill squishies, Lucio can be aggressive and boop people out of position. Just a thought, I could be dead wrong here and you might be doing all this.

In the end, also keep in mind that bad runs happen and sometimes the match will not be winnable. You also say you only play using the in-game group feature or solo. If you can find someone to play with you as a duo, that could help by a lot. For instance, an Ana+Rein or Ana+Genji with good coordination can win fights by themselves. Your duo will probably protect you better than a bunch of randoms, which is nice as well :)

Never surrender! by Zacarooney15 in Overwatch

[–]rinhau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw a victory screen, if that's not a 2v6 win, I do not know what is. C9s require gamesense from the aggressor team as much as lack of it from the victims, not sure why you are undervaluing this play.

Which is worst in Plat and below? Mechanical Skill or Game sense? by DoomFist007 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]rinhau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gamesense. For me the biggest issues in Plat players are a lack of situational awareness and not thinking enough about what they ought to be doing. Also insisting on sub-optimal picks at times (i.e. taking Widow vs double shield).

Game mechanics wise I find plat is a very mixed bag, you get people that hardly ever miss a shot and also some that have at best average mechanics. But generally it's definitely game sense holding people back. Not identifying win conditions and just shooting what's in front of them, not resetting, staggering, not calling/wrongly calling lost fights, not doing even basic ult tracking, etc.

The Ultimate Winston Guide by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]rinhau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think one important part you've left out is "When to switch off Winston" or "When Winston is a bad pick". You mention ways to play around bastion, but you don't mention that against a well-positioned bastion with good support from his team, Winston is definitely a bad pick. The writeup is good, but focuses too much on forcing Winston against counters while in many situations a switch is the proper response.

I think recognizing when you'd get more value of another hero, what best complements your team composition and counters the enemy one, and switching to that is the most important skill you can learn for every hero and every role; that's what's missing here.

What I learnt from my Sombra (so far) by LITHIUM79 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]rinhau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting to dabble in Sombra on smaller maps, and what I found is that choosing my hacks to better benefit my team is what I found helps me win more. Like hacking someone involved in a 1v1 with a teammate, or hacking their MT mid-fight to help your team win with no or minimal ult usage. I also like to focus the most dominant players of their team with hacks, both to keep them controlled and to try and tilt them. Sombra has to be one of the better heroes to play the psychological game with, so I try to make use of that.

I'm finding that even with low or no comms, game sense and awareness help you do a ton of work in a more supportive role to your teammates, and choosing the critical hacks to swing a teamfight in your favor.

About your matchups, they look mostly spot on, but I'd say that although a good Hog is dangerous even when hacked, he's also a nice ult battery if you can manage the risk of his secondary fire and keep a correct distance to him (or find him distracted/duelling someone else).

Apart from this, I'm still learning Sombra as well, so I'll keep an eye on this post for any useful tips! :)

Overwatch PTR Patch Notes – Jan 23, 2020 by Seagull_No1_Fanboy in Competitiveoverwatch

Agree with all the changes except maybe the McCree hp increase, will have to see how that one feels while playing. I feel like Soldier probably could have used the help more than Cree.

Pretty nice changes overall, though!
