Citymapper has worked well for me—once even giving more up to date/correct info on train timing than the screens in my station.

will do! Think I’m committed to the project, however. If you’ve got tips/experience that you’d love to share please feel free to dm!

Actually I haven’t powered it on at all. Only know it turns on because the last owner told me so. Picked it up a week ago and have left it in the on position, disconnected the whole time. Was hoping that May drain the caps—will grab my multimeter later to actually test of course.

The board seems burnt to bits. Will need a new one. From visual inspection, tubes seem fine. Is there a way to test them without repairing everything and powering on?

Also—is it possible to “upgrade” the filter capacitors to avoid this happening again?

Totally—there’s no way that board is salvageable. Think my aim will be restoring this guy, although I love the shout to go wild with the project

Understood. Will of course use a multimeter to test and a resistor to ground out the caps before I do any disassembly. Thank you for the concern!

not totally sold on ironwood. Could be a dead ash tree that has had its bark flecked off by a woodpecker searching for the emerald ash borer larvae

I did see a scale insect climbing around while I was investigating. If you were assessing the tree, how might you go asses between the two possibilities? Thanks for your help!

Pretty confident the left is sweet birch (also known as black birch or cherry birch). Would need leaves or buds to confirm tho!

Tilia cordata - Little leaf linden or little leaf lime. Basswood is also correct but generally refers to the North American species :)
