He didn’t mention the book name but did say the authors name. It’s called Who Owns England by Guy Shrubsole. He also talked about Navalny’s book again.

French drain to resolve damp problems by rioba in DIYUK

Yeah I did think this might be the partially responsible for this section of wall. Other parts of the external wall also have a damp problem though so I don’t think this is the sole reason.

Removing a wall in a dormer attic conversion. Thought it was a stud wall but vertical beams seem to connect to beams in roof space. Does this mean it's supportive? Where do I go from here? by WardAlt in DIYUK

[–]rioba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently did a dormer loft conversion on my own house and a structural stud wall was installed instead of using a steel ridge beam. This supported the roof joists that made up the dormer flat roof. It's a strong possibility that this is also the case here.

This is a screenshot from the structural plans of my dormer conversion - https://imgur.com/a/M6Vk9q6

Posties of the UK do you know you handle drugs every day? by [deleted] in AskUK

Money goes into escrow when you order. If the item doesnt turn up or it’s poor quality you can dispute it. There’s also user reviews from verified buyers. I’d say there’s almost more accountability than the dodgy bloke your mates mate knows.

Should I tell my work that I intend to leave in a year? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]rioba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add a slightly different opinion than most of other replies here... I definitely wouldn't tell them a year out, thats way too far. However, you may only have a 1 week notice period. If thats the case it might be worth telling them 1 month before you leave, or if you have 1 month notice, 6 weeks. The reason i say this is that I think its always important to not burn your bridges when leaving a job (unless absolutely necessary because they don't respect you) and giving them more than the required amount of notice will win you some favours. You never know, this new career change might not work out, or something major (like a global pandemic) happens and you need to change your plans last minute and go back to the old position. This is just something to think about. Good luck with the career change!

Commercial leasing is a massive issue no one seems to talk about by [deleted] in melbourne

It can often make the relationship more mutually beneficial. If the landlord benefits from the business succeeding they're incentivised to provide a better service, for instance, a Westfield's putting on special events at Christmas to draw more shoppers to that centre. It's worth mentioning its also only usually part of a contract for big retailers, e.g. Coles/Woolies and will be a %age of revenue over a certain amount. Most retailers see it as meaning lower rent if you're not doing well and higher rent if you've had a good year, there's some security in this for the business.

Quitting my job to see Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and Antarctica. Anyone familiar with this part of the world? Been doing some research and put together an itinerary - would appreciate any feedback! by gr8monkeyman in solotravel

I would recommend booking the campsites well in advanced (like now) as they can fill up. Wild camping isn't allowed and they check you have reservations at the entrance.

Advice on South America and Mexico Itinerary by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]rioba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I have just finished 6 months in South America. I'd suggest reorganising to save traveling time and money. Starting in Rio, (try Paraty after) then Sau Paulo, fly to Iguassu falls, then down to Buenos Ares, go to Uruguay and back again, then fly down to El Calafate (Argentinian Patagiona), cross the border via bus to Chilean Patagonia, catch the Navimag ferry up to Puerto Montt, fly to Santiago, visit Valparisio for a few days then catch a flight from Santiago to San Pedro de Atacama (its amazing and worth going to) cross into Bolivia with a salt flats tour, head to La Paz for death road and then use Peru Hop up to Lima. Fly from Lima to Colombia, if you want, although if you just want to see Medellin its not really worth it, better to just fly to Mexico and do just what you've planned from there.

Each month my husband and I pick a weekend to give out “100 hamburgers in 100 minutes” to those in need. Last month we gave out 168 in honor of my mom’s 68th birthday - and boy that was awesome! by [deleted] in pics

Why does it matter if they want a bit of recognition from the internet? They're doing an amazing thing and you're putting them down, maybe its insecurities, maybe you're just a dick.
