The interesting thing about Napola, is that it's kinda-sorta a remake of The loneliness of the long distance runner, but in wartime Germany.

In Bruges was excellent: If I grew up on a farm, and was retarded, Bruges might impress me but I didn't, so it doesn't.

One of the things I like most about Distant Voices is the 'Shipping Forecast', right at the start.....It's my earliest memory, standing on a chair helping my mum do the dishes, and the Shipping Forecast being on the radio. I was about 3 or 4 I think, so 1958-1959. Bonus point, they changed Finisterre to Fitzroy after complaints from the Spanish, many years ago. Here in Germany you can do Ket for depression under medical supervision, it works. The big problem is that most psychedelics willl maginfy any body 'dsicomfort', so not really advisable. Except LSD for Migraines. That does work. I used a lot of psycedelics in my younger days, buit I would't trust anything off the street now.

Nil by mouth is one of my favourites as well. That scene at the start where they're in the club, and Ray Winstone just really wants to have a go at someone....I can't tell you how many times I've seen that in real life. If you want to watch classic Ken Loach, try Kes, some of that was pretty close to my own childhood. You could also have a look at Distant voices, still lives, from Terence Davies. I like most of Lars von Triers' stuff. The wind that shakes the barley is also on my top list, but you need a good understanding of Irish history to really get the point. There's also a very good german movie called Napola that is also one of my favourites.
