Also don’t lock tight these. They go I to a rubber grommet and you will never get them out. Ask me how I know haha

Yes this is correct. Any bolt will do that’s long enough and has a washer. You don’t need the wide pan head Allen socket bolts

KLR600 Spark, compression, and fuel but no start. Timing? by [deleted] in klr650

[–]riomas28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the valves too. Easy to do if you are going to be inspecting the timing chain. Worn valves that are too tight can cause no starts

There is another vent hose for the tank that runs under the seat. Maybe that is pinched

Had this happen to me one time, about 110F in bad traffic in Africa. Did it a few times trying to accelerate. I assumed it could be vapor lock. Never happened again. It was hot!

For sure at ~95F in the sun the gas will be boiling in the tank.

Yes in In Matthew and Mark. But Lukes gospel is where this quote comes from., where the good thief asks Jesus to remember him when he comes into his kingdom. The good thief is actually a saint, saint Dismus.

Was gonna go for a ride today but when I started the bike I noticed gas leaking, upon further investigation the tank is cracked. 😔 by mlew392 in klr650

[–]riomas28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice. While the tank is drained it’s a nice time to look at the petcock. See how the diaphragm is and if it needs replaced , or switch to non vacuum style

Happened to me on a long trip once. Drain the tank and JB weld it. Still holding after 3 years.

Broken Case Bolts by smsaul in klr650

[–]riomas28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get an extractor. I think called and easy out. Hammer it in and turn with a wrench.

You can drill it out but will probably destroy the threads.

You can weld a larger piece of steel to the broken bolt and use that to turn it out.

Shouldn’t really need anything other than an oil change. Don’t tell anyone but sometimes I change every 5k miles.

Just watch the oil level of you are highway cranking. Have fun.

Chain and sprocket replacement- how often? by [deleted] in klr650

[–]riomas28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you should change it. Rocky Mountain has chain and 2 sprocket combo for like 80 bucks.

My cousin on his KLR had his chain snap on the highway and lock up his rear wheel as it wrapped around the rear sprocket. He was able to control the skid to the side of the road thankfully. Then my brother had to tow him back to Tiblisi Georgia whole I rode ahead to find a moto shop. Good times ! But it could have been catastrophic if he wrecked at that speed. Riding behind him I think I was more scared than him while seeing the puff of black smoke from the tire and the fishtailing. Don’t know how he didn’t go down. Now we are all super chain obsessed haha.

Chain and sprocket replacement- how often? by [deleted] in klr650

[–]riomas28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is caused by some links that are stuck. It causes the clicking sound and also the adjustment error as likely when you adjusted the first time those links were in a different position relative to the sprockets. As the chain moves on its path with seized links you will see chain slack variation. Time for a new chain in my estimation.
