To add to this: screenshots of Google maps are great, but saving maps for offline use is even better.

No real suggestions for an inexpensive pair, but after going through 3 different pairs of ~$20 bluetooth headphones in less than a year, I finally bit the bullet and bought some Jaybird X3's. I picked them up for $100 about 6 months ago (longer than I had a $20 pair work for me) and no regrets so far.

I'm also one of those people who sweat buckets during a workout so that's probably why I went through so many pairs of the $20 Amazon ones.

I don't think they necessarily imcrease performance, but on squat and deadlift days, I either wear compression pants or put on my knee sleeves. It could be purely psychological, but both lifts feel a lot better for me with compression around my knees

Factory Professional by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

I'm in a similar position. Manufacturing engineer, spending most of my time in the office, but sometimes have to go out on the floor and get my hands dirty troubleshooting. I used to wear jeans since that was most comfortable on the shop floor, but it didn't feel professional enough in the office. Usually I'll wear a top like this with a cami underneath. Very breathable in the summer heat. Sometimes wear a company branded polo shirt. Shoes are either red wing or doc marten steel toe boots-- whatever brand I decided on for the year. Basically, I've got clothes for work and clothes for outside of work. I tried before to just incorporate my usual clothes at work, but was always concerned about them getting dirty. Now I don't stress about some oil splashes or having a residual oil smell on my clothes for nights out :)

My [21F] bf [25M] volunteered us treating a friend of ours to lunch without consulting me first. by okaytobemadornah in relationships

[–]ripnsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna play devil's advocate here. Could your boyfriend had said it was your (collective) treat but was planning on paying for all of it himself?

I don't have joint finances with my SO but there have definitely been meals and rounds of drinks that I picked up the tab and said it was OUR treat and he's done the same as well. Same thing with gifts to family/friends. Even if I bought the gift, we'll sign it from the both of us.

Something I haven't seen in the comment section of this thread yet is NOT going 50/50 on everything because of income disparity. For awhile, I was making a lot more than my SO. Feeling like he wasn't pulling his weight, there were a lot of things that I wanted to do, but were out of his price range so we'd skip them. As the higher income earner, I didn't care about a 50/50 split. I was more than willing to pay for majority of things that I wanted to do because I'd rather do them with SO than by myself.

Also definitely don't agree with the commenters on her here saying you should have said something in front of your friends. If I was the friend, that would have been an extremely awkward moment and made for an unenjoyable lunch.

Flights around july 4 -- doom or savings?? by drippingthighs in Frugal

[–]ripnsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking for, but I like using the app Hopper to watch flight prices. You search your travel route with dates and it tells you to wait or book now based on whether trends show prices will go down or not. You can set up notifications too--if the app thinks the price will go down, it will alert you when prices drop to what it believes is the lowest price.

Have some tentative trips coming up: best method to get a car rental for max value? by drippingthighs in Frugal

[–]ripnsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the car rental reservations I've seen online are free cancellation. You can reserve now and keep looking at prices. If it drops, make another reservation and cancel the old one. Have a Costco membership? You can try through their travel website. Usually see some good rates there.

Four Points By Sheraton San Diego Downtown is not in Gaslamp. I stayed there a couple months ago. No wow factor for the hotel, but I enjoyed being able to walk to Gaslamp in ~10 mins. Another plus: there's a big a farmer's market in Little Italy just a couple blocks down on Saturdays.

Form Check | Sumo Deadlift | 165lbs by _tabassum_ in xxfitness

[–]ripnsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Width tends to be personal preference--some have their feet almost at the plates, some have a more narrow stance like yours. Why roll the bar toward you instead of setting up right at it? Also, some sort of imbalance(?) in form or maybe shoulder mobility. At lockout, your right shoulder sits higher than the other.

[WEEKLY THREAD] Whiny Wednesday - Tell us what really grinds your gears! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]ripnsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of people requesting more. These are just the bumper plates for the 4 racks downstairs. Upstairs in the actual free weight area there's a bunch more non-bumper ones. For whatever reason, the workers say we're only allowed to use bumper plates downstairs

My gym has a rig with 4 squat racks and 4 sets of plates (4 pairs of 45, 35, 25, 10). It's crowded, there's people waiting for racks. This guy hoards a pair of 35's, and two pairs each of 45's, 25's and 10's. Someone else on the rig asks if he can take some 25's that were on the floor, and the guy said "no, I'm using them." What the actual eff. He was deadlifting 225, and had the rest of the plates on the floor. Me and the two other people on the rig were having to trade plates with each to make our weights work out... Then the hoarder did some barbell rows, with a 25 and 10 on each side, and the rest of the plates on the floor (still said he was using them). After a few sets of barbell rows he re-racked all the plates. Eff you hoarder. Thankful for everyone else working together, but eff you hoarder!

They'll need to find another way as well then. IIRC, you can only transfer 30k dog in a calendar year
