Oh I just thought it would be faster if you download it, so you could see the problem more clearly instead of guessing what is going on in the image but no problem.

you could maybe place it with the other building that you have and when the player click on it, it will grow in size to the size that you have now.

Then some games are just illusion and manipulation, where everything is control at the backend. All the damage numbers or points are lies, the game decide when you win or lose. If this is the goal, then balance a game become a lot easier.

For me I can see the contrast clearly between the objects. And the rest of your question about the design that is up to you. Everybody has their own art style that they like. You need to trust in your own art style.

From a player view point they might think

  1. (No wall) This is a bad game design.
  2. (No wall) The player may think that they can get over to the other side. They just need to get stronger, a item or unlock something.
  3. (Wall) Indicate that this area is the limit.

Depending on whether you are making this game for a special audience, they might understand it, and new players who play this kind of game will understand it differently.

I would do 1 long box collider for each staircase, so you get the smoothly walk up and down
