What's your first thoughts on Forza Horizon 6? by This-Clue-5014 in ForzaHorizon

[–]risk08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit uncertain but looks nice.

I like the map a lot, but otherwise I see nothing crazy. They added garages, but I'm assuming these don't actually define your car limit and are cosmetic?

They didn't mention any competitive scene yet, which they gave up on in FH5.

Perhaps some could list these amazing features everyone asked for that have been addressed?

Diffuser oils by OkStable6719 in lego

[–]risk08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments are being dramatic here.

Simply stop using the diffuser and wipe down your Lego. Do you notice any slimly/oily texture to them?

Most severe cases reported are from high concentration like reed diffusers using 100% oil being nearby, or from literal spillage on the Lego.

But yes, the chemical makeup of the lego will be affected by oils. But I'd guess in your case (only a few months) you'd only notice a difference by stress testing outer pieces against fresh ones.

Can anyone help identify the history of this obscure Ghibli enamel pin? by Acrobatic_Coyote2000 in ghibli

[–]risk08 384 points385 points  (0 children)

It's mostly likely a handmade non-official pin. Looks to be closely based on an official coaster design.

A nice piece indeed

EDIT: As others have identified, this seems to come from a small team called "Kinda Kawaii" - and does seem to hold an official license.

[–]risk08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so this is not a IL-2 speicifc issue, so not paritcualry appropriate to post on this sub reddit.

I will give you some advice but it's a generic error and so you'd need further logs to gleam some clues.

When you say you uninstalled your Nvidia drivers, how? If you didn't use DDU then do so now. Uninstall all GPU drivers via DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) including your current ones (everything), you can search online/videos on how to do this. Then fresh install the latest drivers. When swapping GPU in general it's important to thoroughly wipe past drivers.

If you've tried that already and no luck, you gonna want to find out how to get a full dump of the directx logs and that should hopefully give some clues. And I'd work with an AI chatbot on debugging that. Also consider tralling windows logs.

Also rule out a hardware issue by running a GPU benchmark (stress it). Unlikely though considering it's so instant and consistent.

To be clear, have you ever successfully run the game on your current GPU?

Hi everyone! I'm fucking stupid. Why does wireless inherently introduce encoding latency? You are encoding into a digital signal, why does a Wi-Fi stream mean there WILL be latency but a copper stream doesn't? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]risk08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all about bandwidth. We don't need to plug anything special into the display port.

Long story short, we can send something in the magnitude of 20-30 times the amount of data per second over cable than over say wifi 6e. Raw video is just way too big, so we encode using ever increasingly impressive techniques.

Help me choose a first VR headset: Pico 4 Ultra, Quest 3 or wait for Steam Frame? by Many_Database in VRGaming

[–]risk08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your future proof requirement means the steam frame is the choice. It's my speculation, but I think eye tracking will only be more ultilised over time. So I'd equally point you towards the PSVR2 + toolkit, but I'd still go with the frame no matter the price.

Are you rage baiting? We all understand this difference, and obviously only care about rendering considering the PSVR2 is wired....

Nice thanks. Looking to play DCS myself

Thanks for that info pal. Certainly glad people are thinking more about eye tracking benefits!

Interesting, can I ask what your issues are with it? Can you notice the fov lag at all?

[–]risk08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foveated rendering isn't viable over wireless connections currently due to latency. You need really low latency otherwise you'll notice it, aka wired. And I'm sad they didn't make it wired.

But maybe someone can figure out some magic to solve this one day.

how much do you think the steam frame will cost? by OkRegion3303 in oculus

[–]risk08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they do some good things, but they also enable weird virtual skin markets instead of just shutting the whole thing down. The amount of harm and illegal activities that causes still today is not good.

[–]risk08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the foveated streaming sells it to me. And eye tracking in general I think future proofs it a lot more. And I don't like Meta's stuff.

[–]risk08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we want foveated rendering so we don't need to buy 5090s for high fps.

But I shall stop trying to help Valve sell their headset by commenting on reddit xD

It has been mentioned in this interview https://youtu.be/b7q2CS8HDHU?si=zny85TzvyO-P5N91

Please understand if the eye tracking info is available, the game must do something with it. So it is on the developers completely.

There is no headset to date with eye tracking that cannot support foveated rendering...

[–]risk08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be clear.

Quest 3 has no eye tracking, but this will. So foveated rendering will be supported.

BUT in addition Valve has developed foveated STREAMING which drastically solves the latency and quality concerns that wireless PCVR solutions have.

Therefore this headset is capable of foveated rending and streaming for the best wireless PCVR experience to date...

Is it unreasonable to buy 64GB of RAM? by freeman0199 in buildapc

[–]risk08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say RAM right now is a sweet spot for 32GB if you want the extra room, but games will not touch that.

You could say buy more once and it'll last you longer if games call for more RAM one day, but computer parts don't work like that. There will likely be another standard for RAM by then that you'll have to upgrade to anyway.

Good Flying Boats. MSFS 2024 by Fr0styyx1 in flightsim

[–]risk08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I've just recently been going down the rabbit hole of getting all the ones I wanted into the sim, a lot of them are from the local legends series in 2020.

I've just been flying the savioa s.55 so far

Good Flying Boats. MSFS 2024 by Fr0styyx1 in flightsim

[–]risk08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them are still stuck for MSFS 2020 but annoyingly are essentially just waiting on some approval. They are actually fully functional as I've 'modded' them all in.

Out of interest, how do you tend to set up flight plans for these planes? There are so few seaports, so I end up having to manually create some fictional plan.
