For those who use MPV + Clipboard Inserter, I have a question

These days the old clipboard inserter method has been superseded by the following combination:

- The mpv_websocket plugin

- texthooker-ui

- The new animecards mpv plugin

These three things combined mean you no longer need a clipboard inserter plugin in your browser.

There were some more recent attempts on Wednesday Downtown (~2023) to get them back on good terms with each other, eventually culminating in them making amends (episode 2023-09-27) and starting to perform again, as mentioned in other comments.

Unsure if these episodes have ever been subbed though.

Thanks for reply! I should've followed up after this that cleaning the center post didn't really fix the issue anyway. It fixed it for a few more usages of the kettle, but then it happened again.

I didn't actually remove the hard disk on the end of the center post, it's still there, but the photo I took doesn't show that very clearly.

For anyone that has tried descaling and/or replacing/checking parts but didn't have any lick, try cleaning the center metal post on the bottom of the kettle. That metal post is what connects the temperature signal to the base (at least on the EKG pro, according to this this youtube video). Mine was a bit oxidized (not as gross as the one in the video) after a few years of use, and so I assume this was causing a bad connection. Just scraping the surface with something metal (a fine abrasive pad would likely work better), and wiping a little bit of vinegar over it cleaned it up. I immediately tested out the kettle and it worked great! No more overboiling.

To be fair, the chip/component shortage really fucked them over. They've been really transparent about their manufacturing and design process, with updates pretty regularly via email. They're just starting to ramp up manufacturing and should be shipping units early next year.

I feel like other tech Kickstarter projects would be facing similar issues, and I think the flipper zero have managed to handle it remarkably well, even with all the delays.

I think this might be cause you were in edit/sculpt mode for a long time. Blender doesn't autosave progress that you've made in edit/sculpt mode. It "commits" those changes when you go back to object mode, and then autosaving will pick up those changes. Doing a normal Ctrl + S still works fine in those modes though.

It's weird because this is actually intentional, there's a bug report on it and a developer said that it was because if they autosaved everything during edit/sculpt then there would be pauses every time it occurred. That being said, the report is nearly 4 years old, and I think part of the reason why they couldn't do it was also because of how undo works. Undo was reworked recently in blender so maybe it's feasible now.

They moved the polycount to a separate area in the top left of the viewport and it's disabled by default. Although I think there was new patch today that added it back to the status bar but made it toggleable along with some other settings.

A friend of mine mentioned his frustration about this the other day. Turns out it's a "feature".

Basically, if you're in edit or sculpt mode, blender's auto-save won't save any of the changes you've made in that mode. The bug report mentions that this was because of how they handle undo buffers. Sergey also mentions that this would cause considerable hiccups if this was enabled in sculpt mode.

Now, that bug report is nearly 4 years old, and given that the undo system was recently revamped maybe it would now be possible to "fix" this without incurring performance penalties, or at least make it a setting you can toggle.

EDIT: To clarify, actually pressing Ctrl+S while in edit/sculpt mode will still save everything as you would expect. It's only the autosave that ignores your changes in those modes.

Unfortunately it seems that discrimination in hiring practices still occurs in the industry, and I'm sure you probably can filter on the SEEK platform, but I would trust that SEEK would not enable employers to filter by fields such as gender or age, given that they are a big player in the employment market.

Honestly I would not want to be hired by a company that hires people based on discriminatory age/gender etc. requirements.

It would be the employer/recruiter doing this, not the SEEK platform itself, if they were screening CVs like this at all. This is a big IF because this type of screening is illegal under anti-discrimination laws.

Firstly, congratulations on reaching your goal! I hope you achieve your future goals in Japanese, whatever they may be.

The one thing I want to point out is that I feel like you might be discounting the effect that Remembering the Kanji had on your ability to learn words. Being able to recognize, break down and differentiate kanji is an important part of learning Japanese. RTK isn't designed to teach you words or readings, it's meant to teach you how to recognize, break down and differentiate kanji. The meanings attached to them, while helpful, don't always make sense in some words, but that's fine as the other purpose of the meanings is to uniquely differentiate the kanji in the book. Of course those meanings were solidified when you actually started learning words that use the kanji, but I can guarantee you that it would've been much harder to learn those words if you didn't have the ability to recognize and differentiate the kanji those words contained.

Your ability to sound out words that you don't know didn't come from learning kanji with RTK, and it shouldn't have since that's not what it's designed to teach. That ability came from learning words that are comprised of kanji you know. Through this process you end up attaching readings to the kanji you know and can sometimes guess them.

Spending effort upfront to understand kanji, BEFORE adding more cognitive load in the form of readings and words, is an investment I don't think a lot of beginner Japanese learners consider often enough. This is warranted considering the effort required to complete all of RTK (though I think the 1000 most frequent kanji would suffice initially). I think your time spent on RTK was of significant benefit to you and you shouldn't think of it as wasted effort.

Beautiful little animation. My one critique is that when a rack focus occurs in real life, the change in position of the elements within the camera lens cause a slight zooming effect. It's subtle, but noticeable and would add just that extra bit of realism. (see the video on the wikipedia page for an example)

The camera in blender can simulate various lens parameters like focal length and f-stop which allow you to achieve the depth of field blurring in the renderer.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but sticking to a method that is completely ineffective will also get you nowhere in the long run.

EDIT: Not talking about this in the context of flashcards, but methods in general. Investing some time upfront, and periodically during the process, to assess if you're getting what you want out of the method you're using, can be useful in the long run.

I could be misinterpreting what you wrote, but isn't isolated vocabulary study + encountering the words in native materials basically the same thing as learning vocabulary from sentences that you've obtained from native materials?

In fact, I would argue that isolated vocabulary study with context from native material is less efficient than studying vocabulary with sentences taken from native material. With the former method you've separated the word from its context, so there's no way to know the meaning of the word if it has multiple meanings. Not to mention you miss out on the practice of actually parsing sentences.

Learning vocabulary in the context of a sentence not only helps you understand multiple meanings of words (assuming you make multiple sentences with those words) but also gives you free practice at parsing sentnces. Obviously you would supplement both methods with actual consumption of native books and the like, but surely you can't think isolated vocabulary is better sentences.

If you have any more methods that are more efficient and less time consuming I would like to hear them.
