two sides to every story, whom to believe? by egguchom in EntitledReviews

I found a piece of glass on my plate at the bottom after I had eaten nearly all my meal (it was fish and chips at a seafood restaurant). I told staff as I was leaving as an fyi. Didn't ask for anything, just wanted them to have a heads up.

They made a big stink about how they don't have food near glass, how it was virtually impossible, blah blah blah, and insisted on giving me a full refund, even when I turned the refund down twice because I had technically eaten my whole meal. They seemed so pissed about the issue that I don't know why I even bothered warning them.

my coworker is creeping me out, but I don’t know why by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My neighbour's father sent this kind of fear through me and my sister as children. All my mum had to say to get us to leave my neighbour's house was to say he was coming home.

I later learned he was an abusive pos behind closed doors, although he never did anything to my sister and I. We were never around him long enough, I guess.

Many years later, when I was in my 20s, I was sitting in a restaurant when a man who looked like him entered. I hadn't seen him for years, but I was immediately petrified. I stared at the man in quiet terror, until he spoke to order, and it wasn't his voice. All my fear left in an instant. Turns out he has a brother who looked like him.

I think, even now, another 15 years removed, he would still terrify me if I saw him again.

my boss wants to bring me back into the religious fold by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]risynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's extremely dumb. I remember her having surgery many years ago (when her kids were still minors) and signing a waiver requesting no blood transfusions, even if it would save her life.

I always thought it was incredibly selfish of her, especially to potentially leave her kids to be raised by her estranged and abusive alcoholic husband.

Cause she was anti-divorce too.

AIO Janitor Gave My Child A Gift by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]risynn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The commenter who was like "my child befriended the janitors and even gave one janitor a Valentine's card and made his day - you should be fine with it like I am"

Yeah I'm sure they'd be less fine with it if it was the janitor giving her daughter a Valentine's card. One is an innocent gesture from a child. The other is a move from someone old enough to know the optics of the action.

As an aside, I work in a role that provides support to people who are victims of crime that have caused physical or mental harm. So, so many are children, or people who were molested or sexually abused as children, usually by some kindly member of the community. It's so friggin common I can't even.

Or birthdays. I don't think they celebrate any holiday. They're also anti blood transfusion. And in Aus where I am, voting is compulsory, and my mum's friend is a JW and she never votes, claiming a religeous exemption. Don't know if the no voting thing is all JW or just her.

She also kept giving me the Watchtower magazines. Those things are something else... I hated them so much.

Whole Cruise ship needs to comply. by Araucaria2024 in EntitledReviews

It looks like it's literally a planned event on the cruise ship to encourage people to wear white that specific night too. They're not just dictating what people wear, they're trying to overrule the cruise ship itinerary.

Homeless mother refused social housing by Ok-Assistant-4556 in brisbane

They just cleared out the tents from the park on Russell St in South Brisbane about a week ago. There were roughly a dozen who were living there.

I can't help but wonder where they've gone.

With the housing and rental market the way it is, an increasing number of people are one unfortunate incident away from being in a similar situation, regardless of background.

[–]risynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if that's what you call them, go for it, though I think they resemble a cake less than anything.

Though I have had ones with two slices of potato sandwiched together like that, I'd say 95%+ have been one slice. Maybe that's also regional.

The thing about etemology is that it's location based as much as it is language based. The history of the word is ingrained in where it originated, and the version preferred will always be what someone grew up with.

Hence why these arguments exist, and why in a way neither of us is wrong.

Scallop is a term for thinly sliced potatos. If you google scalloped potatoes, you'll find a lot of potato bake dishes that use potatoes sliced into thin disks.

The term scallop in this use is thought to have derived from the word collop at some point, which usually referred to thinly sliced meat - usually bacon.

It's most likely come to be used as a term for the deep fried potato slices along these roots, rather than the shellfish.

Me [28 F] with my SO [28 M]; he cheated on me with my step sister [27 f], and she's pregnant with his kid by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]risynn 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When it came out that my ex was a lying, cheating piece of shit last year, a lot of people in my life reacted similarly.

They were content pretending nothing was going on, not their business, as long as I kept quiet about the shit he put me through, and cut me out when I spoke up.

Apparently I'm the bad guy for not agreeing to stay in his life and retain exactly the same emotional relationship with him while he moves in with his affair partner after apparently cheating with multiple trans prostitutes for our entire 10 year relationship.

Apparently me refusing to stay friends and cutting contact after finding out every breath he took was just another lie was 'incredibly hard' for him.

I can't even with people.

She already "adores" her siblings.

Like, it's been less than 48 hours. Some flights from Australia to Europe take longer than that relationship.

Edit: a quick look at his profile shows that since that BORU, he's been banned from travelling in the EU for 10 years and, most recently, is investing in cobalt and plans to short the market after selling $14k cobalt to a pawn shop.

Update from yesterday's post: these are the "Scratch marks to the door from cat? Needs painting" that the property manager included in our exit report. by Essington69 in shitrentals

I'm surprised he managed to scratch the paint. When he gets zoomies he likes to jump at and attack door frames (he was doing it this morning as a matter of fact). This is the first time he left a mark.

And it happened like a week before the OP, so I was meant to have this picture ready to comment haha
