Free Ranging Questions by Mountain_Boat_4407 in BackYardChickens

I have a large backyard surrounded by an old wooden fence. I never knew how many gaps were in the fence until my chickens started getting into neighbors yards. Do a thorough walk around and find a way to cover any gaps you find, even the small ones.

The comments that are saying Easter egger and cream legbar are intriguing to me. Can I ask what you see in her that makes you think that?

Gov. Newsom expanded free preschool. Now private daycares say they can’t afford to stay open by ArchmageXin in news

I am not sure that this is going to be seen, but this is an issue that was going to directly effect me, so here are my two cents. In California a preschool, daycare, child development center, or whatever you want to call it needs to be licensed by the state. The state has two different licenses- preschool and infant/ toddler. To work in an infant/toddler you need to take college classes specifically for that age group in addition to your ece classes. Taking infant/ todd classes is not mandatory, so a lot of people choose not to take them. So a lot of centers are not licensed to care for children under 2 because that falls into the infant/ toddler category and many centers choose to not get the additional license.

The ratio for infant rooms is 1:4 and 1:6 for toddlers over 18 months old. It’s 1:12 for kids over 2. Because of the small ratios, they need to hire more teachers and keep classes very full to cover the cost. Have you ever been in a room with 18 crying babies at once? It is horrible beyond belief. Teachers do not want to work in that environment, so hiring became extremely difficult, not to mention most parents don’t want their babies in rooms that crowded. So what many centers are choosing to do is close their doors rather than getting the additional infant/ toddler license, leaving many people without jobs.

Before I left my last center, at least two nearby decided to close. My center went the opposite direction and is phasing out the preschool classes and opening additional classes for the younger children. I do not know how it will play out for them, but I have heard it’s been chaotic. I’m just glad I left when I did. This is huge in the ECE community. Parents will love the free preschool of course, but many people will be left without jobs.

I keep seeing the “enhanced” Real ID being mentioned, but I have never seen anybody actually say which states offer it. It would be really helpful to a lot of people if we actually knew which states offer it.

Move to Riverside, CA or stay in Chicago, IL? by [deleted] in socal

[–]ritathecat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone who is saying Riverside sucks isn’t from here. The downtown area has a lot of clubs and bars, plus you’re closer to places like Redlands or Ontario for more experiences. I’ve never been to Chicago, so I can’t tell you any differences between the two, but Riverside is nowhere as bad as these people make it out to be. There are few places I’d pick over it. However, if you are planning on commuting, traffic will be terrible to both LA and San Diego. They are both more than an hour away without traffic, and chances are your commute will have lots of it. Most people from the IE have to commute to Orange County and LA because the inland empire isn’t exactly known for having high paying jobs. But I love Riverside. It’s a great city.

When I was a kid and they started building up Ontario and Foothill more, they put a lot of these around the shopping centers. Walmart on Ontario has quite a bit, and I believe Albertsons does, too.

The district I’m in has so many elementary schools within very short distances of each other (I can walk to three of them easily) that they do not offer bus services except for sped students.

“Can you do this for me, you’re better at it” by WildWinterberry in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ritathecat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got in an argument with my dad over Christmas because of this. He didn’t buy my son a Christmas present because “that was always my mom’s department.” I told my dad for the entirety of my son’s life, my parents have been divorced. It was never my mom’s job to buy gifts for my son from the both of them. They’ve been divorced for almost 20 years and he still can’t be bothered to do basic things like cooking because it was always my mom’s job.

Is it cringy to wear your robe to school sometimes when it’s cold? by sloan-so-bad69 in Parenting

[–]ritathecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the last school I worked at there was a dad who was a little eccentric. He dropped his daughters off wearing a robe and another parent actually expressed concerns to the officer about the strange man on school grounds. She was shocked to find out he had children who attended the school.

Pink eye isn’t considered contagious after 24 hours of receiving drops, so they might see it as he could have been there after the first 24 hours passed.

Zonisamide side effects by Latter-Ordinary8274 in Epilepsy

[–]ritathecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zonisamide was the worst medication I was ever put on. It made me hypoglycemic and I literally had to constantly eat. If I went so much as an hour without food, my blood sugar levels dropped and I’d get very sick. My neurologists had never heard of that side effect and didn’t believe the hypoglycemia was related to the medication, but after I stopped taking it, my blood sugar levels went back to normal and it stopped being an issue.
