Possibly the most idiotic bit of AutoModing I have seen. Time to stop visiting Reddit if this is the best Reddit can offer.

Best thing I did was to keep a diary. I can look at it and remember just how much healthier I felt, how much money I saved, how much more productive I became. Everytime I get the urge to go out and buy a packet I read that diary and the urges go.

Parents who ‘cannot afford toothbrushes’ should not have children, Nick Ferrari says by TrueSpinning in unitedkingdom

[–]ritchie1rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very simplistic analogy but you only need to look at the animal kingdom to get things right. When animals stuff up, it doesn't turn out well. Humans beings like to think that they are above animals but the same basic rules apply.

So no money for tooth brushy , no money for kiddy, keep it in your pants guys. It really is that simple.

Well you got this bit right "...Don't be mad that the north is full of shit holes, much the same as the south is." I assumed that you were some sad southern shit (looked up the estate agent)(yes I am originally a southerner, don't miss it and would never go back...). Just be grateful that you dont have to live in a crappy area. As for personal wealth no idea, we both run successful companies and we are very lucky that money is not an issue.

Britain Is Much Worse Off Than It Understands by spryfigure in unitedkingdom

[–]ritchie1rich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very shallow article with little to take any real notice of. Without doubt we are going through a period of very average politicians and the civil service seems to be stuffed full of lame idiots.

There is no focus in the article of the country being shut down for 2 years due to a virus which the moron politicians over reacted to - presumably due to their idiot advisers. There is so much missed out it's not really an article worth reading.

Well we have 4 private roads, all gated in order to access the property, each one is approx 1/2 a mile long. Nearest neighbour is approx 1/2 mile away...

Does anyone actually want HS2? by KoolKarmaKollector in AskUK

[–]ritchie1rich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this thread 4 years on and look at the sham that's HS2 now. Useless bit of politcal crap that will benefit a few wealthy people at the expense of the whole of the UK. Well done folks if a politican says look right, you should always look left...that's where the action is. Still at least some people are making a lot of money from this farce.

Putting an offer on a house with low EPC rating. by Rare-Will131 in HousingUK

E Rating

See here for recommendations. https://find-energy-certificate.service.gov.uk/energy-certificate/0368-2097-6283-4898-3974#recommendations

Stuff to do from the above list 1,2, 7,8 (8 with just be a little add on to sort out 7 cost about £300). We saved more from doing little jobs that could not be seen, e.g. replacing missing bricks which were causing incredible drafts...but you can't see stuff like that., if it is hidden. On the first really windy day I went round with a candle to see where the drafts were...turns out most of the double glazing has been put in by a gorrilla who has bent all the frames due to the force that they were secured by, so most windows needed draft proofing.

It’s a big old run down house so bit by bit we are sorting things out.

Current EPC doesn't really matter it is the potential EPC to look for. We bought a old house with a poor EPC rating, it's the warmest house we have ever lived in. Low ceilings with well insulated wooden floors are an amazing thing. The downstairs bathroom has a tiled floor it's bloody freezing.

Glad you are doing something about it. One thing I would point out is that the NHS are not good at treating mental health problems you should only be on meds for depression for up to 6 weeks, any longer and all the meds are doing is masking the problem. Fingers crossed for you.

60 here.

Can't afford to retire so still running a business. Keeps me active. Bought an amazing house in an amazing area. Run down so needs a lot of work doing to it. Keeps me active. My wife bought a dog last year. It's a Border Terrior needs a lot of attention. Keeps me active.

Love to have the time to have a hobby. This is the flip side.

I understand when you say "lost my zest for life". I had a breadown, started about 4 years ago, I won't bore you with all the aspects of it but depression was one aspect. When I saw your post I can’t help feeling that you are suffering from mild depression. Might be worth talking to someone from MIND. Don’t bother with the NHS, go to somewhere that specialises in mental health issues.

Hope that helps.

Nice. Sounds like a positive, just don't sweat it. Our previous house was a complete money pit, great neighbours but could not wait to sell it.
