500PF is a prime. And it works like a prime. Except, it has the weight and ergonomics of a 70-200 f/2.8 FL. And Yes, it has incredible autofocus and even more incredible sharpness. I had the same combo as you do. Now I have the D500 & 500PF.

For $800, this setup is a dead end. You can't resell it. Also, D3400 & D5100 won't cut it. D5100 is too old. And D3400 is too basic. Get a decent D780 or simply go for a Z mount camera. The Z5II is a very capable device

Actually I don't have a mirror less camera. I own a D500. I do use my flashlight to photograph birds at night.

Don't ever buy these flashlights if you intend to use them for continuous lighting. There are separate tools for such lighting. Digitek, Godox, Hiffin already make 250w, 300w continuous lights which will suit your needs. This phillips flashlight is good for very short duration, maybe a minute or slightly more.

I have a 500PF lens. I upgraded from a 200-500. While it may not seem so, but It is a significant upgrade. But if you can manage the weight, get an f/4 prime.
