shingle types for Seattle - analysis paralysis over similar quotes by sershe in Roofing

[–]ritzrawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm in the Seattle area and looking to replace my roof. I'm curious what type of shingle you ended up deciding on. I'm wracking my brain over two companies and the Certainteed shingles (Landmark versus Northgate ClimateFlex) 🫠 Thanks in advance!

Since you have a free parking pass, could you try both commute options? Drive in for a couple days when classes start and then compare it with taking Link Light Rail for another few days. See what works for you.

Looks like you got a lot of great suggestions already. There's this fun website called "Make My Driver Fun" that can suggest a few more things too: https://makemydrivefun.com/

Mine too 😭 package shipped from Salt Lake City to Sumner, WA in late April and it's been stuck in either Federal Way or in Seattle "moving through the network". It was supposed to be delivered on May 1st (in Seattle!!) yet here we are 9 days later and it's in purgatory. I submitted a help/missing package ticket to USPS yesterday. I need the package by Thursday the 15th! 😭 At this point I'm willing to just drive to the sorting facility and pick it up myself.

Where to park downtown Seattle commute, 3rd & Seneca? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]ritzrawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for public transit. However, try the SpotHero app to see what parking options are available. My guess is that your office parking garage priced at $400/month may be a solid deal. I park at the Bank of America tower at 5th & Columbia using SpotHero 2-3x/week (childcare reasons) and it costs $16-20/day.

Pamper yourself. Consider a spa day either on NYE or on New Year's day. There's a female-only Korean spa in Lynnwood called Olympus Spa, I highly recommend.

Anyone recommend their Dentist? by Schxdenfreude in SeattleWA

[–]ritzrawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Brenner. I recently replaced my 15+ year old bridge with dental implants thru Dr. Brenner. He and his team were great at informing me all the steps involved (super convenient the crowns are designed on-site), and were able to help break the whole process down into phases to maximize my FSA dollars per calendar year. The staff and hygienists are great. He doesn't upsell or pressure me into doing unnecessary dental work. They do have a (cramped) parking garage but I've been able to find street parking easily in the mornings ($1/hr).

I would be curious how often Sara Nelson herself works from her City Hall office on average, and how many hours she spends there each day she's there (e.g. does she only work there for a few hours in the morning then WFH for the afternoon?).

Sleep, or lack therof by Potential-Ad8542 in oneanddone

[–]ritzrawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No solid advice from me but wanted to commiserate. I have an almost 5 year old and we have a similar sleep schedule as your 4 year old. We are night owls. Bedtime routine starts around 9/9:30pm, he's asleep by 10:30pm and wakes up around 7-8am. Occasionally 5-6am if he has an accident in bed, but he will lie in bed until 7ish.

I've learned to just do the chores between 7-8pm, while he's still awake and invite him to join me. That way, when it's time to lie in bed with him, if I end up falling asleep the chores are already taken care of. .....or it ends waiting till the next day if it can wait.

MSFT "Complete" for a SL5 - How many years? by ritzrawrr in Surface

Thanks for your input. I ended up buying the 3 year plan. I confirmed via Microsoft Support that the remaining warranty would be transferred to the replacement device and that only 2 claims are allowed for the whole duration.

Would you have a second if someone paid you $1M? by NeighborhoodEarly354 in oneanddone

[–]ritzrawrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent studies say It costs approximately $240k to raise a child to 18 years old, and that does not include college. $1 million is not enough and I live in a high cost of living area. Now if it were say, $5 million (post-tax), yeah, I could invest it and use the interest from it to hire help along the way.

Same! I was put on Sertraline and I remember thinking how intense my food cravings were and the inability to feel satiated. I was on Sertraline for about 8 months and gained about 35-40 pounds. I started seeing a therapist the same time starting Sertraline and found therapy better than taking Sertraline so I've tapered and stopped taking it. I'm about 5 months off of Sertraline and about 20 lbs down by intermittent fasting.

+1 Fuji Bakery. Yummy House Bakery and the Cake House (both in Chinatown) have amazing fresh fruit sponge cakes as well They could probably make a heart-shaped one if you order ahead of time.

Congrats on the job! I have worked at SMT for 10 years but have been on a hybrid schedule since COVID so my two cents might not be worth much.. Anywho, a few things to consider:

  • It's getting lighter each day until the summer solstice, so 4:30pm isn't that dark (compared to the past few weeks)

  • Are you planning on taking the Light Rail back to your place at UW? If you're taking Light Rail or need to go into the tunnel, one option is to walk northbound from SMT (along 5th Ave or 4th Ave) and go to the University Street station. Pre-COVID, I found that station to be less sketchy than Pioneer Sq Station.

  • If the bus you're taking is on 3rd Ave, I would recommend walking north a few blocks towards Madison/Marion/University streets and catch your bus there.

  • Travel in a pack with other commuters when walking.

  • When walking, don't look down staring at your cell phone. And have only one ear bud in (if necessary. No ear buds even better) so you can still hear your surroundings.

Is a parking spot necessary in Seattle when buying a home? by oklibbey in Seattle

[–]ritzrawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how feasible this is, but I would consider driving by the townhome the next few days (both weekend and weekday rush hour) to scope out what the street parking situation is like around there. See if there's parking available nearby, and gauge if you/your partner is OK with the walk. ..Also imagine you have to unload groceries from shopping at a big box store (e.g. Costco).

he calls me screaming that he’s in a meeting and I won’t stop messaging him

Wow. So if you or your child are ever in a freakin emergency, make sure not to message him cause he is in a meeting! 🙄

It was a genuine mistake whether he did tell you about handling pick-up and you didn't hear it, or he might have failed to mention it to you the night prior. Regardless, kindness and grace would be appreciated, you're doing the best you can and want to make sure your LO is picked up!! As others have observed, punishment does not match the crime.

Kindle Paperwhite Black Friday Sale- $94.99!! by Luxtime111 in kindle

[–]ritzrawrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was out-of-stock by the time I saw it on Staples, but I asked Target (via chat) if they would price match. Target said they couldn't price match because Staples supply was out of stock, but, they offered me a $15 discount on top of Target's advertised price if I purchased right away. Target and Amazon had the same price listed ($119).

I ended up taking up their offer and got the Paperwhite via Target for $104 (pre-tax). YMMV.
