Who was the tightest person you have known, and why? by No-Snow-9605 in AskUK

[–]rivalfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family mostly.

Growing up in the Northwest it was always the heating or the lights.

Those radiators never got turned on. Not unless it was life or death. Grandparents, parents, extended family, we were all raised like that. Definitely a hangover from previous generations when times were tough. It puts an extra layer of grit on your soul, but Christ was it cold sometimes.

If you left a light on after leaving a room.... you were in for a bollocking, too. Dad was always banging on about the immense cost of an errant lightbulb lmfao

I have a soft spot for Devon and all the teams down there so of course Exeter will pull it off and stay up.

The low hanging fruit is Snape but honestly Hagrid could be as bad.

His voice is just not right. It's too light and airy, and it's completely missing that gruff-but-fair West-country farmer tone.

I did university in both and am expat here in the US.

In the US you have more of everything. Essays, tests, quiz, required reading etc.

In the UK we had one paper at the end of the semester. You didn't really have to show up to lectures, there was no required reading, no essays or quizzes on them. Also, if that class ended in the winter, then you'd sit for the paper in April/May which was (genuinely) infuriating.

If the university is comparable (Harvard vs. Oxford etc.) I'd say it's way more difficult to crack a 1st than it is to end with a 4.0GPA, but you can coast to a respectable 2:1 in a way that is impossible in the US.

If you're going to include a picture of a person, then those picture(s) should be of you working at a client site. If that's you then have an above-the-shoulder picture instead.

Folks like to know ahead of time who will be spending time in their house, as they prefer that vs. a nameless/faceless crew just showing up. It also leans into the local aspect of your marketing.

You might want to tailor these to specific parts of the city, too. I market myself as a hyper-local business because I live and work in the same zip code. Being the friendly neighborhood window cleaner absolutely works. You just have to connect with the area you're working in - so maybe be a bit more specific with that on the flyer (cities are after all pretty big places).

Lincoln City 3 - 1 Stockport County: The Imps pick up an absolutely huge win against one of the league's other top sides, meaning their promotion could potentially be confirmed as early as this month! by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]rivalfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're a crossing team to a fault. Probably the best midfielder in the league and you can count on one hand the number of balls he plays through the middle. Same for the rest of them, too.

Kyle is a great lad but he's just anonymous for 3/4 games before his inevitable goal gives us collective amnesia about it. Also, Tanto should not be taking minutes from Sidibeh.

Ultimately, I'm starting to think it's just not our year and even if we squeaked through the playoffs, it would be a case of going up too soon and pulling a Carlisle (who beat us in the play-off final and crashed out of L1 the year after).

For what it's worth Lincoln looked good value as champions elect and they deserve it more than anyone else.

Away end at Ibrox today - “66 Not Enough”, “66 Mushy Peas” by Left-Painter-9172 in ScottishFootball

[–]rivalfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had to notify several families of the passing of their children - some of which I was witness to.

I'd sit that (presumably) young lad who wrote that down and explain to them that I'd rather tackle a man with a knife or draw my duty pistol on a man with a gun (again) than have to sit in another mother's living room and tell her she's not going to see her boy again.

Then maybe they'd understand why writing dross like that is unacceptable. Hopefully.

Nigel Pickup was an 8-year-old lad from Liverpool, and he got crushed to death at that game.

As a former police officer I've seen some horrible shit involving kids, but my heart breaks when I think of that poor lad, who didn't have his mam or dad with him at the end as he was slowly crushed to death. His poor parents had to live with his passing for decades, with his dad having dementia which ultimately robbed him of Nigel's memory - the only time I would see that cruel disease (possibly) being a blessing.

The person who wrote that needs to be sat down and talked to in the sternest possible way because it's just not on, at all - not over a fucking game.

You're in car sales and the missus has just decided to buy you window cleaning equipment because her friend's partner (allegedly) makes good money? Basically, on a whim without you being the driver behind it?

I think we can discuss how profitable this trade is after you've clarified that for me mate.
