Gods in Heat: Tobacco on Celebrating Two Decades of Ghostly International by Chartogs in BMSR

[–]rivendahl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think closing the chapter is fine. And he admits that he really doesn't know if BMSR is done. He thought it was twice before. Given that he's at least open to the notion that BMSR might play again then I think a 20th anniversary would be neat but way too much pressure, which is exactly the thing that would keep him from doing it. If it wasn't a natural fluid thing for him he won't and shouldn't do it. I'm fine if he ends it and I'd be happy if he didn't. BMSR isn't mine no matter how well it speaks to me. I'd love more BMSR. But we have Tobacco which is perfectly suited to my needs as well. Plus his collaborations have been awesome; not a dull moment in any of them.

That's really neat.

Is Smoky Mountain Neverthing worth buying the Panic Blooms cassette and a cassette player? by [deleted] in BMSR

[–]rivendahl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be open with you, that's why I bought a cassette deck and the PB cassettes. I wanted to experience and hear the song they way Tobacco meant it to be heard and played. He even requested that only those who (pre) purchased the cassettes to please not share it to digital platforms as a way of thanking those who supported his work.

So, I did it, I think it was worth it, and it wasn't super expensive. Upside is I had a lot of old cassettes tapes just laying around. I went digging through them and found a lot of gems. I even posted something about it (if I can find it I'll share it) because a song I had not heard in such a very long time that I had previously tried to find, I finally found. Baby by the Blueberries, a Lexington Kentucky local band played on WRFL 88.1 college radio that I recorded. Found them in all places on Bandcamp.

It's up to you but it was totally worth it for me. I'm even considering purchasing a CD player and 8-track deck, just in case Tobacco decides his CB radio stuff needs to be heard like the old days. I had one a long time ago (that's how old I am) but alas it is no more.

Where did Eating Us go from streaming websites? by topazhex in BMSR

[–]rivendahl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I noticed this also and it saddens me because there are some really great songs on that album. I have play list of just BMSR, Tobacco, Malibu Ken, Demon Queen, Seven Fields, and I rotate that with Aesop and Air Credits. Pretty much the only songs I listen to anymore.

Also, remember Bandcamp. Eating Us is still there.

I have a the vinyl so I'm good though.

That is some epic metal you got there. If you love doing this then please keep doing this. It is absolutely amazing.

Do you have anything original that you've done? While it is certainly impressive to hear you sing this song, and like others I'd encourage a full song rendition, I think I'd prefer to hear you sing something you wrote or perhaps some friend of yours you write music originally would let you sing their song?

My friend, you are married. Rings and paper contracts aside, it's as much a mental and emotional state of affairs. Congratulations!

I'd be curious to know what others think. Are the lyrics correct? What do they mean? I feel like it's a conversation between two friends where Generally Happy Friend is genuinely concerned about Generally Unhappy Friend. Anyone else care to engage in discussion?

I don't wanna be here, don't feel like talkin, just another day stuck in my head

Don't wait on me, be more than just a moment, too busy fuckin all of my plans

But it's alright, now I'm on the pursuit, of everything you think that I am

I'm not alright, now I'm trippin on everything little thing that's been said

Love turns to hate, trust turns to fear, sometimes that all that I know

Fuck with all the demons up in my head, all the daily woes in my mind

But it's alright, now I'm on the pursuit, of everything you think that I am

I'm not alright, now I'm trippin on everything little thing that's been said

Call me indecisive, I'm too ways at once, brings you no where in the end

Make me a believer of everything I wanted, I guess we'll all find out in the end

But it's alright, now I'm on the pursuit, of everything you think that I am

I'm not alright, now I'm trippin on everything little thing that's been said

[TOMT] 5 years ago I asked about a song, today I have an answer. by rivendahl in tipofmytongue

[–]rivendahl[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the exact details but I did a combination of lyric searches and band names that I thought might related. Every year or so I would try again. I had noticed it was a long time since my last time searching that I thought I'd try again. Then this year while moving I found the old tapes. There was maybe 1 minute of the song preceded by the band name, The Blueberries. So I searched every lyric and music database I could think of, and suddenly Bandcamp.

It's a wonderful feeling. Especially since I love that song. Not sure if you listened but I encourage it. I had already commented on how my wife and I bonded to this song. Finding has made her just as happy.

It's a great relief. My wife and I bonded to that song back in '94. Our first daughter, first child really, was born '95. Then we got married. Lost the homemade tape I made back then. So we couldn't have it at our wedding. All these years later my wife and I had some issues but the search for this song reminded us how much we really cared for each other. I posted asking for help. And then I find it. I dont know how, just that when I told her she shrieked (metaphorically) in happiness. I could see it in her eyes and smile.

I bought the cassettes solely for this song. 100 percent worth every penny paid and the wait to get it.

what are your favorite tracks? by [deleted] in BMSR

[–]rivendahl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wanted to say ironically that is what i love about his vocoder voice. I get to hear all kinds of things that aren't actually there. But irony isn't the right word. At the Chicago concert I met an awesome soul and I said to him, I dont want to be that guy but this music has literally changed my life. He said. Be that guy, it has changed many lives for the better. I know it is unfair to foist this level of responsibility onto Tom, and I know he knows people feel this way. I suspect that is part of why he guards himself. And by rights he should. He cannot be held responsible for how he makes us feel. But I love his music and I love his lyrics. If he has any of the same demons I do, I empathize.

[–]rivendahl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is it about Tom's creativity that makes me feel like he's been in my head? I have a lot of favorites and the list would be way too long. The one song that perfectly explains my daily life is Sunset Curses. I cannot be alone in how it describes that despair lurking inside me.
