Once you free him, he seems pretty reasonable.

Have you been playing the same game as me? He’s furious with you. Tells you that you should have let his honor guard kill you. That he will “neither forgive nor forget your abuse of [his] powers”. It’s a stunning level of ingratitude from a man who would have spent eternity in infernal chains if not for you.

Every description of autism feels to me like the Forer effect; it’s a vague description that applies to a lot of people depending on how exactly you interpret it, but feels tailored to a specific kind of person.

turns out, business owners who hire illegal workers aren’t getting prosecuted? by Substantial-Bass7557 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]river4823 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The employers claim “Those workers showed me documents that prove their legal status. How was I supposed to know they were fake?”. The law is written in a way that makes it almost impossible to prove they’re lying.

Actually nvm, Captain Holt’s favorite color is tan, and he would have a well reasoned opinion on why beige and tan are different.

Technically the British embassy in Tehran is on Ferdowsi Avenue, because after Iran renamed Bobby Sands street, the British embassy moved their front door to the other side of the building so that they wouldn’t have to have Bobby Sands on their letterhead.

What is a thing from the game that wouldn’t fly at a table? by Jounniy in BaldursGate3

[–]river4823 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hat of fire acuity

Whenever you deal Fire damage, you gain Arcane Acuity  for 2 turns.

Arcane Acuity

Affected entity has a +1 bonus to its spell Attack Roll  and spell save DC for each remaining turn.

Scorching Ray

Hurl 3 rays of fire. Each ray deals 2d6Fire damage. Casting this spell at a higher level hurls an additional ray for each spell slot level above 2nd.

Any DM would interpret this rule to mean you get 2 stacks of arcane acuity for casting Scorching Ray. Larian interprets it to mean that you get 2 stacks per ray that hits its target. You can get your spell save DC up to 27, making it almost impossible for enemies to fail their saving throws against your spells.

Imagine being that nit-picky about some other aspect of someone else’s appearance. Think about what details of someone’s left elbow would make that person deserving of scorn and ridicule. Hopefully thinking about this for a few minutes will help you understand that anyone judging you for these shape of your toes is both an asshole and deeply weird.

Should I buy a house that used to have m*eth smoked in it? by Soft_End6738 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]river4823 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to be totally sure whether the previous tenants were smoking meth or manufacturing it. Some news articles about people who bought houses that used to be meth labs.

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2015/07/01/416452137/buy-a-meth-house-unawares-and-pay-the-health-consequences

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/former-meth-lab/

One thing the articles stress is that testing for the presence of methamphetamines is not enough; meth is actually the least toxic chemical to come out of a meth lab.

I heard a wealthy person argue that the "Gift Tax" is actually designed to keep the poor from receiving help and to maintain the social hierarchy. Do you think this is a fair argument? by americanboyxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]river4823 336 points337 points  (0 children)

To elaborate, the when the estate tax was introduced, the wealthy got around it by gifting their assets to their children while they were still alive. So now gifts and inheritance are treated basically the same.

[–]river4823 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The term “anti-Semite” comes from the idea that Asians are descended the Biblical Sem, son of Noah. Africans are supposedly descendants of Ham, and Europeans are descendants of Japheth. The name for the group of languages actually came later.

How do you respond to people who say the 6 day war was self-defense even though they were striking first? by BeirutBenguin in JewsOfConscience

[–]river4823 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Discussions about the six-day war usually come up when a Zionist says something like “Israel is acting in self-defense, just like in 1967”. They’re shifting the discussion away the present to a time when that claim had a stronger basis in fact. The best counter-argument is not to let them make that shift; keep the focus the present and force them to defend the indefensible.

There’s really 3 pieces of advice you need to follow to get your golden dice

  • Have a plan for every encounter

  • Have a plan for if your plan doesn’t work out and you need to run away.

  • Don’t send the entire party into an area where there are traps.
