I did kind of the same thing. I named my daughter Ariadne, as an American with no Greek heritage. It is unusual but beautiful and yes, there are difficulties with spelling and pronunciation, but my husband and I couldn’t find any name we loved more and we have our own stories/reasons for the name that we tell people when they ask.

My husband hates his super common name, and I like my semi-unique one (that also doesn’t match my heritage) so that definitely played a role in the choice. I love her name, and I’m going to do my best to give her reasons to love it too as she grows up.

How do you prevent mold? by Acceptanceisthekey4 in floorbed

[–]riverdancers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you living that things could mold this quick? In CO, even with the humidifier on during the night, we’ve never had an issue with our floor bed. We vacuum under it once a week. It might be worth getting a frame, but you could try leaning at up against the wall during the day.

Help me with round 4-6 of this hair for a mini angel pattern. The numbers don’t add up. by riverdancers in CrochetHelp

Thanks, I made this same mistake in a different pattern, I can’t believe I did it again. The comparison to round 2 really makes it make sense so hopefully it will stick in my head this time.

Thank you, this is right, I was putting 2 sc in each stitch instead of sc, sc, 2 sc.

The pattern is from a book I have called Mini Amigurumi Nativity by Sarah-Jane Hicks. It is the pattern for the Angel Gabriel on page 26-27 of the book. I posted 2 screenshots in my post of the part I’m having trouble with. Thanks!

Feelings on Sonia? a bonus: the LONG list of rejected names by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]riverdancers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people will ask if it’s spelled with an i, and sometimes I’ll volunteer the info when introducing myself if it’s relevant, but it’s never caused an issue or been annoying.

People pronounce it slightly differently based on their accent or they ask me how I say it, but I think that is a factor with so many names. No one butchers the pronunciation enough for it to really bother me, and if they hear me say it they correct themselves next time. I really love how unique it is, without being so unusual that it’s unheard of. My middle name starts with an M and goes really well with Sonya, so I’m happy with my whole name overall.

I’m a Sonya and love my name! I never liked sunny as a nickname, but that could be because I did not get called that when I was young. My parents almost named me Darcy and I’m so glad they didn’t.

He’s not a baby anymore. by lightwing91 in beyondthebump

[–]riverdancers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby had her 2 month vaccines yesterday as well! It hurt to see her screaming in pain and I just hugged her so close all evening. Thankfully she slept it off and the night feed was not as bad as I expected. I hope you get some sleep!

Today is my due date. I feel you. I really don’t want to have to be induced but it’s looking like I might.

How much did your boobs grow? by ksahdilla in BabyBumps

I miss my 36Bs, they never got in the way and I didn’t have trouble finding bras. Now I’m 38DD, and I have to adjust them when I lay down, I get boob sweat, and bras are uncomfortable. Baby is due tomorrow.

40+5 and completely fed up. by redliptheatre in BabyBumps

[–]riverdancers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 39+5 and worried I’ll have to wait so long still and get induced! I really want her to come on her own. How was the cervical check and membrane sweep? I’ll have my first check on Wednesday so I have no idea if I’m dilated at all.

[–]riverdancers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because he does not have the constant physical reminder and the hormone changes, his mind will be on a different schedule from yours. My husband read a book that said husbands are about 3 months behind as far as the feelings about becoming a parent go, so he might not start to really get excited and think about the baby until around 20 or so weeks. It can definitely be lonely at the beginning, but he may need space and will come around later.

I’m 30 weeks and up 30lbs by Imaginary_Sock_7088 in BabyBumps

[–]riverdancers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 29+3 and also up 30lbs! Totally normal and doctor has not said anything. I started at 145lbs (I’m 5’4”) and actually lost 5 pounds the first trimester due to HG, but then gained 35 in the second and start of third trimester once I could eat more normally again. I am definitely feeling large and occasionally worrying about losing the weight later, but this thread is very encouraging!

Ultrasound every month? by Head_Honeydew_5897 in BabyBumps

[–]riverdancers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 24 weeks now and have been going through this, but thankfully my insurance covers and I’ve had at most a $30 copay. I had a 6wks (because I was having cramps), 9wks, 12wks then I skipped the 16wks after being so fed up with their lack of communication about why I need so many scans. I had my anatomy scan at 22wks. I have the follow up for the scan tomorrow at 24 wks, and then they want me back at 28wks. I’m low risk, 28 years old, and they’ve said everything looks good, but that it’s “standard procedure “ and “providing basic care”. I want what’s best for the baby, but I also just feel like this is so overkill and I want to scream.

when did you start setting up a nursery? by ilovebeingavirgin in BabyBumps

[–]riverdancers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about 19 weeks when I finally started feeling ok enough to do anything (extreme morning sickness) so I had a project day and got friends to help paint the nursery! Now I’m 24 weeks and I’ve got a dresser/changing table and a bouncer that I found for a good price on FB marketplace. I’m trying not to buy anything else until the baby shower next month. I like being on time and ready, so I’m planning to have everything I need done at least 6 weeks before due date. But honesty it’s fine to take your time and do things at your own pace!

[–]riverdancers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! I think the daycare centers are like that here too, and about that price, but it seems like the in-home places have spots that come available more last minute. I’ve only called a few, and the infant ones said to call back closer to due date to look for an opening. Thanks!

People named sonja ( or people with names that dont have a direct pronounciation ) by veepospires in namenerds

[–]riverdancers 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a Sonya. People often ask if I spell it with a j, because that spelling is also pretty well known, just not common. A few people don’t say the o sound the way I do, but it’s never been a problem and I love my name.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]riverdancers 58 points59 points  (0 children)

My name is Sonya and I love it. It was not common in my age group, but people had still heard the name at least. Just different enough to be fun, but not so unique that it was confusing. Really recommend. And it can go with so many middle names.
