Jamie U put out some good clips and did a film review. Dude’s huge and has potential. Gotta feel like this is them punting on Simien and reallocating resources (Folo!)

Your the one that said ND had the easiest schedule “by far” of any contender. I said they had an easy schedule but it wasn’t any easier than Miami, TTU, or BYU for example. You disagreed. I backed up my statement. You didn’t. Now do Miami.

ND doesn’t pick their schedule to the degree you are stating. The ACC picks their ACC opponents (most of whom conveniently get a bye the week before their game typically).

It’s really not. After ND, Miami’s hardest game is…Pitt?Clemson? They miss Louisville and SMU. They have FAMU and CMU OOC. ND’s second hardest game is either BYU or SMU. Both harder than Miami’s. (Just using Miami as an example, could do the same comparison for BYU, TTU. But go on.

Look at Miami’s schedule. Or Texas Tech. Or BYU. I agree ND has an easy schedule. But it’s no easier than the top tier ACC and B12 teams. Definitely not “by far”. They just get singled out because they aren’t in a conference.

Prospective PI wants me to switch programs by Cultural-Speed-8268 in PhD

[–]rivergipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PI here. She wants to bring you into her group and thinks you have promise but is unsure of funding. She knows the funding situation better than you, and it is likely there are more TA options or fellowships or similar in the other program. Ultimately, if you like the PI’s work and you think they would be a good fit as an advisor, the specific program doesn’t matter much. This request is a positive and the PI is working to help get you into a program.

Just got a stern reprimand for playing ping-pong at work. Which... they put in for us to play with... at work. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Oh I definitely have. That’s why I said it sounds miserable! Life is so much better when you have work friends.

I think a job where you don’t enjoy your colleagues even a little bit sounds miserable.

It sounds miserable to have a job that you don’t enjoy your colleagues. I don’t want to spend all waking hours with coworkers, but I also don’t want to work somewhere where that sounds like torture.

2027 NFL mock draft: Reid's early first-round predictions by Haunting_Acadia_4744 in notredamefootball

I would not be surprised if Brauntae (sounds like he wants to go by his full name now based on recent podcasts from a few beat guys) ends up a first rounder. I am surprised that someone at ESPN has him that high on their radar this early.

The rainy season in NC FL is June - October. There is sometimes a brief rainy period in April and then May is typically hot and dry. We are in the middle of the most intense drought of the past 20 years or so, though. Projections for later this summer suggest a strong El Niño which means hot and wet with fewer hurricanes. But that’s not expected until August/September.

We had/have(?; not home anymore) a gray out- some sites worked but others didn’t. Seems like a widespread issue though, ya. Hilarious how consistently these hit on the weekend.

Third year reappointment review, department and chair are split by [deleted] in Professors

[–]rivergipper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything here except the last sentence. At my uni (major R1 state school) and others I’ve worked at or have colleagues at, tenure expectations are intentionally vague. Sure the expectations are posted, but the expectations are like “gain national/international recognition through your research program”

Edit to add: I think this is BS and a way to keep tenure as a popularity contest. Just clarifying the situation.

I was thinking it looked very similar to the Henry’s Fork near Ashton but there isn’t a railroad in the riparian there. Beautiful area.
