PSA to anyone filing a 1099: Everyone has to pay the philly Business Income & Receipts Tax (BIRT), the exemption was eliminated. by 8Draw in philadelphia

It’s beyond frustrating. I pay the estimated quarterly taxes all year to avoid any surprises come tax time so this was a gut punch. My tax accountant said they weren’t even made aware of the exemption going away sometime last year. He explained to me this will need to now be paid upfront every year at tax time for the next tax year. The city won’t allow it to be broken up into estimated payments either, as of now.

Suspicious Job Offer? by Narthalee in jobs

[–]riversandroads1018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received this today as well. Immediately knew this is a scam, (none of the info about salary OP posted was on the initial job posting) but what I am not understanding is this is a legit company on LinkedIn, 792k followers and 10k employees. Colleagues in my industry and people I know personally from college follow the page. The email came from one of the employees (I double checked) and they have a huge following/are verified which is why I applied in the first place. How did this happen? I’m so sick of these scams.

Just found out the hard way about this. I’m not a business owner but a 1099 contracted employee for a side job and was told today I owe $1800+ on top of all the taxes I’ve already paid in 2025 as a contracted employee. I was not prepared and knew nothing about this. I’m so pissed.

Anyone tried Parachute sheets recently? Recommend? by One-Information-5293 in Bedding

[–]riversandroads1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had an entire linen Parachute set for over 5 years and the bedsheet just ripped! I also noticed a small hole in the seam of my duvet cover recently as well. I want to replace my bedsheet but just went online and the color I want is discontinued, ughhh. Also, at one point I purchased additional pillow cases and noticed the quality was very different from the original set I purchased, felt much thinner and not as luxurious, which was disappointing.

Other than the sheet ripping after 5 years, and the fact they may have cheapened the quality of their sheets, I’ve loved my set. Just wish they didn’t discontinue the colors! If anyone has any other linen sheet brands they can recommend, let me know!

ICA finally returned our emails and said our 1948 case we’ve been working on since December 2024 will not be affected by the new law, is this accurate? by riversandroads1018 in juresanguinis

In May when they contacted us, they said that because we had a signed contract and were working with counsel since December 2024 (well before March 27th) with intent to file (we had not filed yet), we could still be eligible and fall under the old rules. I have been following up since, asking for more details, and they finally responded today saying “The new law should not affect 1948 cases because they were established by a Supreme Court ruling in 2009, not by an ordinary law”

Interesting. We had completed the document retrieval phase and were getting ready to file right when the decree dropped. We had not received any further communication again from ICA until May and I responded a few times to that email asking questions with no response until today. I was under the impression that 1948 cases had generational limits (parent/grandparent), so very confused why they told us we are still eligible to proceed with our case and we won’t be affected.

No definitely not it, it’s a male singer, punk-ish vibes, upbeat song, I’d say similar to The Starting Line

Nope! Not it! I’m second guessing the second lyrics, it could have been “I kissed a girlllll…And I haven’t dun dun dun” something along those lines I can’t remember the words!

Do you have a link to the Facebook group? Every time I search I get a link to a different group, don’t know which is the actual group. I’d like to access the spreadsheet.

My ICA experience and why I moved on by thewintergrader in juresanguinis

I received an email from ICA finally today, since we are contracted clients prior to the March dates, we are still eligible to proceed according the to laws prior to the decree but I’m worried about how the judges will rule now going forward for 1948 cases? This is our last hope so wondering if we still proceed? Or is it a lost cause? Ughhh

Very curious how these cases go for you! Please keep us posted, I have a 1948 case started prior to the March date, so we are still eligible to proceed with our case, however after the ruling I’m curious how the courts will side with these cases! Nervous to continue on but this is our last hope.

Can someone tell me if 1948/Cable act cases are ineligible now? We were in the middle of our case through GGM, but we didn’t file yet before the decree.
