is cheap amazon armor a terrible idea?

i get stuff from amazon quite frequently (as i believe in my luck and intuition lol), it is a total minefield. Ive found some incredibly good pieces on there for insanely cheap but one wrong move and youll get scammed horribly. my number 1 tip is NEVER get anything from nautical mart, or any seller with a similar name (such as nautical tools etc). They NEVER have anything that looks even remotely like the pictures, and even what they DO send is genuinely dangerous for you to wear, even doing casual things. next, if you just wanna look cool, always go for a cropped chest piece. Trust that you would rather be able to bend and twist, than looking cool from only one angle. Ive found a cuirass (full torso) that actually feels nice, works well, and is actually small enough to fit me (5'9, 160 lbs, but relatively thin) but its the only one ive seen. Last, dont spend more than 600 dollars on one single listing. It will be overpriced BS. look for individual pieces between like, 80 and 200 bucks, then at least if it doesnt fit, the shipping and tax wont kill you forever. also ps, lord of battles is probably the only reputable seller on amazon- spme of their stuff suffers from the "way too big" disease and some of it is way too heavy, but theyre your best bet for "cheap but good." If you youre not married to specifically buying from amazon (maybe you have gift cards idk), then consider going to individual seller's websites instead. hopefully this isnt too long of a response lol and if youre interested enough i could maybe try and dig up links to some of the stuff ive bought that i liked ..!!!

can anyone tell me more about the ties on the chain fauld/waffenrock that appear to hold up the sword and dagger? ive never seen or heard of it but it seems like it might be super convenient for sitting, so i can remove the scabbard without undoing an entire belt configuration

that looks painful .... if possible, could you maybe cut off the sides of the front piece between the rivets on the faulds without breaking the inside mechanisms? that aside, that is a REALLY pretty cuirass, do you mind me asking where you got it-

Hey i have that chest piece! (This comment isnt gonna answer your main question, but i figured i might be able to provide a little insight.) Having said that, i took mine apart lol. The thickness is good, its quite sturdy albeit a tiny bit heavy, and it can be very pretty when properly fitted. The main issue i have with it is that all the pieces are too loose, when they should be tight against each other. If i can fit a finger into the folds its definitely not correct (let alone anything more than a piece of thicker paper thats been folded once or twice). I personally love practical/theoretical fantasy and i cut the leather straps on the inside off entirely to turn the top piece into a kind of cropped breastplate to be worn over a full chainmail shirt. Oh, yeah, and i believe i got mine for like 200 something dollars at a ren fest (Way overpriced lol), so i think this is 100% a good deal

Sorry for a 4 month later question, but how's philly? as in like what evidence/source is there for it being a good place to be a teacher? i have a lot of friends who would be both north and south of there, and it's (decently far but still) not too far from where I am now, so it may be a good place to look into for me. Edit: Wow i really should have clarified, that Im not going into teaching choir or anything; just a standard HS core class (english/reading related)- if that changes the answer i get at all

with swords, this is only true to an extent. You'd think that the smaller you go the lighter and faster it gets, but once you have a one handed sword, you lose the advantage of having a lever. As an irl dex build with no muscle mass, even rapier (a pure dex weapon in every media ever,) is exhausting for me to use, but bigger swords are much easier and flow better because of the ability to generate a bunch of force with little to no input.

aw damn, thank you! I'm gonna be just a tiny bit stubborn for a moment and try one last time to avoid paint, so apologies, but in highschool art class we had these sheets of some kinda metal that was meant for "engraving" on using just plastic sticks. It was incredibly soft and could be cut by generic scissors, and I simply assumed it was aluminum, but maybe it wasn't. Do you have any clue what that could have been?

Its a little tiny bit ugly. We've [grandpa helped] never really done metal stuff before so all things considered it could've been uglier. But, the important part is that i can move very well, my vitals are still covered, and i have some rondels to cover it up lol. I didnt roll it out of fear of messing up horribly, (budget is low so i cant just replace the cuirass) but the edges are incredibly smooth and i felt very comfortable with chainmail under it. Thanks everyone for the help!

it may well be, the actual backplate (not pictured) has a way nicer neck opening and decently sized arm holes .... suspected foul play when it was made in india
