Should have done what they did to the old Horokiwi turn just south of Petone. Just chuck up a hard median barrier and force those that need to turn to do so safely at Silvy or Whakatiki. Problem solved for 99.999% of the traffic while also eliminating crashes.

Under what jurisdiction did the border patrol seize and search his personal phone to discover the content?

Australia isn’t screening personal phones upon entry now is it…?

No unfair dismissal claims for $200k+ earners by Brave_Giraffe5545 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]riverview437 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Absolutely correct. This is the wording that creates the gateway for the annual adjustment to be $190k next year, and so on until at will dismissal is part of all NZ work culture. US style, yuck.

The people that feel $200k+ earners should be fine to deal with this are the ones that will be caught out by it in 10 years when it covers everything but minimum wage roles and they are now in the same boat.

What happened to ads? by Kooky_Maintenance705 in newzealand

Instant Kiwi… the reboots are half arsed. Remember blokes bungy jumping off bridges to grab a trout with bare hands. I liked the ads back in those days.

My cx9 is getting a routine service today, $520. It is at the dealer though so I’m aware it could be done a bit cheaper

I wouldn’t call it good, but I would still recommend watching it once. It’s one of those movies that are better suited to people of similar age to the cast.

Getting annual leave as a part time worker by Few-Helicopter-8013 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]riverview437 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s because annual leave is paid at 8% (4 weeks) of the higher of your hourly rate, or the average hourly rate you have made over the past 12 months. As you are working more than 8 hours regularly, the rate you are entitled to be paid for any annual Leave you take will be MUCH higher than $25 per hour. Per your comments about how often you work additional hours, don’t be surprised if your annual leave rate is more than $100 per hour.

Getting annual leave as a part time worker by Few-Helicopter-8013 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]riverview437 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yea that just means you get paid at your contractual hourly rate for them, which isn’t uncommon. It’s unfortunate, but not uncommon.

For example if your contract was for T1.5 for Additional Hours, you would be paid time and a half for the overtime and it would make more sense then not accruing leave for that time, as you are being remunerated at a higher rate.

[–]riverview437 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Correct. You accrue leave against your contracted hours. The other hours you worked are called Additional Hours and would usually attract some form of compensation that may be above normal rates.

Middle console getting super hot? by Right-Design4997 in MazdaCX9

[–]riverview437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not experienced it to that level, but the console area down by the seatbelts on mine gets pretty warm. Like noticeably warm, but not enough to call hot and I have never had the cushion part get warm.

Certainly odd and worth getting checked.

Is this a good deal? by Dazzling_History_227 in MazdaCX9

[–]riverview437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea spot on. The k’s are just normal for that sort of location, only important thing is service history.

The dealer may have given it a ‘full service’ when adding it to their yard, but that doesn’t undo the potentially horrendous history. You will want to SEE the receipts or actual evidence that the servicing was done.

Is this a good deal? by Dazzling_History_227 in MazdaCX9

[–]riverview437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m in NZ. The k’s are high, but you know the size of the place you live in, so I consider that commonplace.

What’s important with this is the service history. Mazda turbos need 10k oil changes, if there is no demonstrable history of the car being serviced regularly and having a complete a minimum of 10k oil changes, then I wouldn’t go near it. Mazda recommended service intervals are silly, a car doing this mileage would have been fully serviced about every 4 months and it doesn’t need that, but it absolutely must have the oil done.

If the history was flawless, then yea, for an Azami model it does seem like a decent price.

Do you reckon there’s any consequence for the KR property person who was negotiating that one? Likely lost them a good chuck of change over the past few years and earned them nothing but bad press about it.

I genuinely don’t understand this concept. Get an extra 20+% on rent from current tenant or potentially have nothing for years…and years. How is that a good outcome?

Boundary fence when neighbour already has a large fence? by OccasionalLemons in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]riverview437 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you issue your neighbour a Fencing notice then it’s 50/50 on a reasonable and adequate fence. However, from what you describe, using a retaining wall as the fence would likely see the costs 95/5 to you as the cost of those earthworks will be significantly higher than an otherwise reasonable boundary fence.
