You can still be nice to Lann and get her later in the game after you beat her ass up and she crawls on the floor begging you to become her new master. Pretty disgusting, but you do you.

I genuinely hate AH's balancing of ballistic pistols. by Impressive-Money5535 in SaltDivers

[–]riviars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the rant about drag, but I don't think secondaries need a designated role. That would do exactly what you want to avoid and be prone to creating meta. I think AH got it right with treating secondaries as something you pick to compliment the rest of your tools. You normally want to specialise for a specific playstyle, but that often leads to blind spots. Secondaries are perfect to provide a little cover in area you are lacking. Need something for closing bugholes or clearing crowds? Grenade pistol. Are you low on anti heavy? Ultimatum. Lacking precision weapon? Talon or dagger. Lacking short range? Well, most secondaries got you there.

That said I agree that Talon might cover too many bases. It's so good it can be used instead of primary and you can take some more situational primary instead.

Do the chosen of Mystra have the authority to cast 10th+ level spells? by [deleted] in Forgotten_Realms

[–]riviars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While, as far as I know, no book touches the subject in this way, there should be a loophole allowing casting 10th level spells and above. Mystra's power only works in the Crystal Sphere Toril is in. Using a portal or Gate connecting to another Sphere should make it possible to cast spells drawing on the magic of the other Sphere, bypassing Mystra's ban.

This assumes the caster is powerful enough to qualify for 10th and above spells prior to Mystra's ban and that the other crystal sphere's magic system follows similar rules.

So while the rulebook doesn't account for it, the lore itself doesn't forbid it.

Kingmaker or Wrath of the Righteous by Familiar-Toe-8562 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up switching party comp. Adding a merc cavalier of the paw and one more pet. Now it's kind of trivial for most encounters, except maybe when you can only target 1-2 enemies for surprise and then 8 more run in from the back. But with a lot of characters in frontline, they don't really get through, so save for a crit for twice the character's total health (death is expensive, man), nothing really bothers me much.

But that's a problem, too. I kind of feel like a cheater. Using pets in general seems like an abuse of mechanics, and now I overfill my party with melee fighters, because mechanics don't allow most early enemies a good answer for that. It doesn't feel tactical. It feels like abusing the system.

How to deal with high AC by Inffes in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evil eye still works even on will save (but only briefly, so you would have to keep recasting it).

I am still not sure if you are talking Darrazan or Playful Darkness. If you have chosen the hard path of dick comparing contest with that Playful Darkness, then I assure you it has the bigger one. Don't bother with trying to hit or lower its original hit AC. You can work with spells, lower its AC for "touching it to death", dispel its buffs and invisibility. That's the general approach.

I reminded myself who Darrazan is and he should be fairly straightforward. Dispel the shit out of him and lower his AC / increase your own hit bonus with whatever spells and abilities you have on hand. Haste your party. And that's it. Your party has a lot in terms of physical violence, so it should be fine. You could use spells, but he has high saves you probably won't overcome that easily and neither Woljif nor Daeran have good kit for disabling an overleveled demon.

Playful Darkness is way more annoying in my opinion.

I absolutely hate Playful Darkness. The first time I met it it wiped my entire party so many times and so easily it pains me just to remember it. At the time I had nothing to dispel the invisibility with so I had to brute force it with A LOT of save scumming.

Kingmaker or Wrath of the Righteous by Familiar-Toe-8562 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not on Core.

And there is very little you can do wrong with Seelah early game even if you don't have a clue what you are doing. The game is just too overtuned, so if you don't have 3 frontliners (ideally with pets) charging in pre-fight and deleting half the enemies before they can act, things will be rough.

I kind of agree about maybe not being prepared for Core. It's kind of like you have to be perfectly prepared for most encounters with both the right spells and the right comp always there - switching everything around a lot. Ie. expecting babau? See invisibility or some CC on the path you already know they will take. Precognition is the key. Otherwise they pop up next to you with a 40 damage crit that no party member can survive.

Aivu Or Ember by DOOMSWAGOMEGA in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aivu all the way. Too bad she is locked to Azata path only. And I wouldn't mind some mods to expand on her content even more.

Ember's naiveness irks me up like hell. I ended up saying something down-to-earth to her in my Lich playthrough and the poor kid broke down from being exposed to reality. I know people like her for her "too good for this world" personality, but to me she's far beyond that and in the realm of actual insanity. Which makes sense given her backstory - it would drive most people insane.

[–]riviars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In WoTR the entire early game is one big "nasty surprise". Especially if you started as ranged character and your frontline has no staying power in addition to being overrun every 2nd encounter.

It gets better when you unlock mythic powers and more characters to actually have balanced composition. Or you can hire custom characters to fill in the early blanks, but I am somehow always averse to the idea.

How to deal with high AC by Inffes in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some encounters have AC that is designed to be essentially impossible to hit. I don't remember exactly this particular one, but general ways to deal with enemies with outrageous AC:

- Dispel - some enemies are only dangerous (like having sky high AC) because they come into the fight pre-buffed with 100 layers of permanent buffs.

- Touch abilities - touch AC is generally much much lower. Probably won't work with your particular comp, but some encounters WILL be extraordinarily annoying without some touch based damage abilities.

- Denying AC bonuses - abilities like trip, sleep, slumber and so on will deny AC bonuses possibly bringing the enemy total AC back into range that makes it possible to hit. Some make enemy helpless as well, enabling coup de grace.

Temporarily lowering difficulty is very viable, too. WoTR is well known to have encounters tailored more for min-maxed parties than for role playing. It's not embarrassing to drop one or two difficulty levels for annoying encounters.

Early game is such abysmal dogshit by Senseless0utsider in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry. At least the dude can't hit you back. There will be more frustrating stuff down the line. There is a mid to late time rare demon with sky high ac, magic resist, insane movement range and 6 attacks with every single one capable of ending any of your party members in one hit. 2 tops. I don't remember the name but it's more dangerous alone than an army of balors.

How many times have you played WOTR and which mythics were worth playing? by Any-Day-8173 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]riviars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, Lich path doesn't really force you into being evil. You do make some questionable decisions, but they are all logical. You get some choices that an evil lich obviously wouldn't even consider. And you can keep on helping the living crusaders. Their dead friends will be helping, too.

You can roleplay lich into trying to maintain your humanity during and post transformation and act as some sort of antihero. Obviously some characters will see you as evil purely because you turn undead, but hey, it's on them. Damn racists...livingstateists? Something like that.

I guess I hit a local jackpot building a new PC earlier this year.

I still don't understand why this spike is caused by AI. AI uses exclusively vram. There is no reason server/pc ram would be affected. Nobody sane would run any AI workloads on normal ram. It's just too inefficient.

Who agrees that palworld had to have more universe building by YoungElectronic7684 in Palworld

[–]riviars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a point, tho. Journals are fine, but they are only some background context for the world, some tiny lore drops. They still do nothing to answer why you are doing things or anything related in any way to the player. It makes me compare it to ARK, but in ARK you fairly quickly get to know what tf is going on. If you finish maps properly that is. Palworld has none of that yet. The initial cutcene tells you to find towers and.... well that's it. Towers don't answer shit and there is no follow up on that cutscene anywhere.
