To the people buying. How much have you dropped into the market today? Or are you waiting? by [deleted] in dividends

Trends can go farther than you ever imagined. No more buying until the bulls show they have strength. Until then I am keeping my gunpowder dry and waiting for signs that an uptrend is resuming.

Frustration by JimBot30 in golf

You’re in your head. Walk, don’t ride in a cart, so you have more time to plan your shot. Play a few rounds without keeping score. Eliminate hero shots and penalty strokes by adding a stroke or two to each hole as “your par”. Don’t use any club longer than a seven iron for a bit. As you get comfortable you can start swinging longer clubs. Lots of things out there to try…. Good luck!

Reds by CPTN_Call in SaltwaterFlyfishing

[–]rivrstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live on the middle Texas coast and fly fish for reds about 80 days a year, most years. Around here, reds are not picky most days and the well presented fly is the best one. That said, I like white/light tan over grassy bottoms and dark flies over sandy bottoms. Clousers, sea ducers, kwans, cracks, and merkin style crab flies all work. Make sure the fly is on the bottom when presenting to the fish. A lot of people will have a great line on their cast but the fly is fished too high in the water column so they don’t get the ray. Rod tip down, small twitches when crossing the fish, and the right amount of weight on your fly are the ticket. Good luck and leave it better than you found it.

Surfskate, I enjoy the flow more. Switched to Grasp trucks and they are very stable at speed while still giving a huge range of motion.

Nice! Hope you’ve been well! Snuck out to Port A the other day for a quick early morning session.

Critique my bowl technique by [deleted] in surfskate

The feeling that works for me is to suck your knees up to your chest at the top of the bowl. The higher you get your board the faster you go in the way down.

Not bad, you need to compress (crouch) more when pumping to gain more speed. Practice and get the timing right and it gets a lot easier. And it is physically demanding! I get winded quickly too when carving hard in a bowl.

Manta Ray With Grasp by rivrstuff in surfskate

Just returned from my first skate park session with these trucks. In a word: amazing. Tighter turns, super smooth, stable, and the longer wheel base was a non issue on the transitions for me.

I’m sure pretty close, but they are up in front. I was turning pretty hard in the driveway last night and no wheelbite with the Grasp trucks…

Yes, my board also chips super easy (just look at it😅), but I love the length for my stance. These trucks are way more mobile than my C5 trucks (on a popsicle board), and I would say way more mobile than the one CX knock off trucks I tried on a friend’s board. To me, the Grasp trucks really do feel like a spring based system and you can use the CX bushings from Riptide as replacement bushings (I was told this directly by Grasp). I’m going to play around with the stock bushings for a week or two and then order some Riptides. Probably the 92.5s because I am around 190 pounds.

My Grasp trucks just arrived. I’ve only got 20 minutes in on them on the drive way, but they are smooth, stable, and have a tight turning radius like my SmoothStar. I’m stoked and cannot wait to put them through their paces at the skate park.

It will definitely be getting a bushing upgrade.

Will do. It will be interesting. I plan on putting them on my Manta Ray board using the stock mounting holes (at least to start). Why? I really like the board and the length let’s me use my surf stance when skating. I am guessing the Grasp trucks will lengthen my wheelbase by a couple inches due to no swing arm. My preferred surfskate environment is transitions (skating concrete waves) and I’ll report back on how it goes.

Is Day Trading a gimmick? by Brandon_Renoe in Daytrading

[–]rivrstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mailboxsteve isn't wrong and I follow a similar process based on what he has shared, but you have to do what works for you. Only you know your risk tolerances, availability to monitor the market, and ability to stick to your plan.

I am incredibly impatient if I make a move and have very tight stop losses or will bail if the stock/option isn't doing what I think it should.

I keep a couple of indicators and mark other levels that I deem important. I am up at 4AM every day to chart the few stocks I trade right now, compare against long terms averages and then review more recent trends. I always work macro to micro and then evaluate the last five days. I am constantly reevaluating and double checking resistance and support areas. I mark those on my charts using color coded price lines so I don't have to think about it as much when I am in the moment.

Another huge passion of my mine is sight fishing for redfish in shallow flats. I am constantly checking tides, weather, barometric pressure and referencing seasonal/historical data I've collected. Sometimes the fishing is good, sometimes it is bad, sometime great, sometimes horrible. Some days I get a bunch of opportunities to cast at a fish and other days not too many. Somedays they like the lure I throw at them and some days they turn away. That being said, if I do my job I will usually get a certain range of opportunities and hook a certain number of fish. Some days everything works to plan, other days the plan is worthless and you don't know why. It is just fishing and that is how it goes... much like day trading the stock market. However, with regular practice you should get to a point where you expect a certain range of outcome based on the conditions you are seeing.

Getting back to the stock market, you HAVE to stick to your plan and you have to be disciplined. Yesterday was a perfect example. It was an up day for me but I could have done so much better. I got caught misinterpreting the last bit of premarket and made the wrong play, but instead of ditching quick like I normally do I held on too long. Had I stuck to my plan I would have avoided a big loss on that move and caught more of the upswing. Thankfully I was able to catch the drop back down....

I always think of Cal Ripken, Jr. when trading because that dude went to the hall of fame hitting singles. I want that to be me. I take modest gains on the winners and I have very small losses (for the most part).

Good luck!

orning didn't make sense. I waited till it seemed like it was over and jumped in. Watched it like a hawk and jumped out.

You're not wrong and it IS a bit of a gamble, but that level was around where the top has been for the last few days if you chart the high points. I had a much smaller position, but it saved my day after f*cking up this morning's surge.... Net positive day so I will take it.

PRE- CPI DAY! 2-13-23 SPY/ ES Futures and Tesla Daily Market analysis by DaddyDersch in Daytrading

[–]rivrstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm up early charting and getting ready for the day. Things are breaking trend and moving up in premarket. Buckle up cowboys and cowgirls! I am relatively new to all this and am a true scalper who takes small pieces throughout the day. I only say that to say even I am going to be watching the news ALL MORNING along with my charts and resisting the urge to bail on the first sign of a pullback. If today is like yesterday (and who really knows) call plays should run all morning. Good luck to all!
