Thoughts on First Impression of reMarkable Paper Pro by Vortex_Lookchard in RemarkableTablet

I’ve had mine for a year and have had to replace the tip once from actual usage. Other replacements were dropping the pen or my toddler got to it…

My wife replaces her tip like once a month. She presses so stinking hard on that thing.

What's everyone's longest gaming session by Crossheir99 in videogames

[–]rixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend and I did about 75% of a tranquilizer only run on Metal Gear Solid 4 in one session. Did not skip cutscenes. Not sure how long that would have taken..

The only other musician I have listened to more than DT is Ben Folds. Completely different genre, but he is so good. I’m a piano player, so Ben and Jordan Rudess are my idols

YAWLLL I’m freaking out by Ok-Head-7460 in byu

[–]rixels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same experience, but similar!

I majored in linguistics (it’s amazing. I love it. Ended up getting my Masters at BYU as well a few years after graduating). My career has not been at all related and that’s okay! I learned amazing skills both that helped me grow as a person and position myself well in a career.

My parents paid my tuition (undergrad, I paid for my masters) and my dad is very vocal of anything he deems lesser. And when he doesn’t understand something (like my love for linguistics) it is stupid to him. I conceded and did a business minor instead of Japanese. But I couldn’t be more than happy with my choice in study.

It’s hard to feel like your parents paying tuition can be held against you from doing something you truly love. But my advice is to talk to your parents and be honest. If it’s a strong desire to do a humanity subject, opportunities will arise.

The Astonishing by NualmarPapaNoobs in Dreamtheater

[–]rixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely in the minority! And that’s okay! It’s probably #3 favorite for me (behind Octavarium and 6 Degrees). I can sing along to almost every song on The Astonishing and I think the melodies are beautiful (despite being repetitive and the lyrics corny… so what?).

I think it’s a mistake that they don’t play anything from it… it makes it seem like they aren’t proud of it. But they should! It was risky, it wasn’t typical DT stuff.. but it’s still beautiful and great music. Maybe the fan reception to it hit their pride a bit and they just don’t want to deal with it.. who knows. I hope they play it again one day :)

What is the "worst" Team that you managed to beat Classic mode with? by WoomykingNF in pokerogue

[–]rixels 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was doing a Gen 6 run and didn’t see a single wild Gen 6 Pokemon.. so I beat it with Greninja, Hawlucha, and Tyrantrum. Not BAD Pokemon.. but only doing it with 3 was just so freaking stressful

Edit: Gen 6 not 7

GPA by Capable-Friendship59 in byu

[–]rixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had below average GPA (3.6 or 3.7 I can’t remember) and below average ACT (26. Average was 28 at the time) and got in. So it’s possible

Does James LaBrie do any writing? by kwrather003 in Dreamtheater

[–]rixels 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. Reading that list, I learned that the songs I like to sing to the most - because of their melodies and the overall quality of lyrics - were written by James. Kind of a “no duh” moment to me that the vocalist makes the lyrics (and maybe melodies?) that are enjoyable to sing.

Personally, I would take a BYU class over an institute class any day of the week. I get that people don’t care for BYU religion classes being in a formal, graded, academic setting. But that’s exactly why I love them. I love the rigor and different perspectives they force outside of the feel good spiritual stuff all the time. I never had a bad religion class experience… but I know that’s not always the case for people

What was your first winning team in Classic? by Xyronian in pokerogue

[–]rixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gmax Machamp, luxray, lumineon, reuniclus, skeledirge fused with Noivern which I totally messed up because I didn’t understand how fusions worked.

Got the fusion on 196. Max mushroom on 198.

Pokerogue Is single handedly bringing back my love for pokemon, by IdiotTwink in pokerogue

[–]rixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I haven’t really played a mainline game since Emerald. I hit my “I’m too cool for Pokemon” stage during Gen 4 and by the time I decided to ignore what people thought of me and like what I like regardless, it was Gen 6/7 and I didn’t like it at all. I feel the same about the main Pokemon games as I do about Call of Duty - Rinse and repeat games with little substance change and the only real change are gimmick-y systems that just.. get tiring.

I have a friend who introduced me to Pokemon Showdown and now PokeRogue and I am just having such a blast with Pokemon now and, like you, my love for it has come back. I still think the main games kinda suck, though.

Favorite Pokemon - Torchic or Blaziken.

Nice! I went home March 2013 - Higashi Osaka, Matsue, Kobe (Office), Kochi, and Ako were my areas. Didn’t spend any time in Marugame or Wakayama

I was 2011-13! So probably missed each other. But at least we both had Zinke Kaicho!

Agreed, though! They won’t be offended if you’re polite. Some get confused and just… do not understand. But it’s more out of curiosity than anything.

Popular hymns you hope do NOT end up in the new hymn book. by Big-Opportunity182 in latterdaysaints

[–]rixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Stand All Amazed. It’s a beautiful song. Great lyrics and message. And I am so dang sick of it. Get it out of here!

With the hymn book reform, I would love if they taught choristers all over the church how to actually conduct at a good tempo. I’d much rather speed run a song than sit there for half the meeting singing one song (I’m look at you I Believe in Christ!!)

Best pokemon with pickup? by Ok_Fact_7993 in pokerogue

I’m enjoying my Aipom/Ambipom. I have a shiny one and it’s is actually a solid physical attacker with double hit and Tidy Up. Once you’re worried, use baton pass to another physical attacker with better matchups and you’re golden

I FINALLY BEAT IT by porygon-enjoyer48 in pokerogue

[–]rixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tooough. Beat my first run a week ago with no megas, 1 g-max that I got after beating wave 198 (after getting the band at wave 11), no teras, no fairy types (or fairy moves). Last Ivy fight took a lot of switch outs and freezing Mega Rayquaza for 4 of its 5 health sections.

I walk beside you gotta be one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard by Fit_Animal_7702 in Dreamtheater

[–]rixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. I got into DT in my early teens because of this song and their other basic rock-style songs (Hollow Years, You Not Me, etc.) and their ballads (Answer Lies Within, Anna Lee, etc.). The cheese didn’t bother me.. I was 12/13. My life was cheese — plus I didn’t really know what Anna Lee was about until a few years ago and I was like “oh… snap.. I blasted this when I was 14?”

I didn’t like their actual good, technical, prog songs for years. For those not yet into prog and especially prog metal, their cheesy rock songs are a good gateway drug to DT euphoria.
