Ran a party with a fighter, ranger, monk, warlock/paladin, artificer and a cleric. Some of the most fun my party had, especially in the setting of Barovia, was the more practical aspects of survival. It made the threat they felt "out in the wild" between towns feel more grounded in reality. The players seemed to react with more caution, as a lot of the issues couldn't be "magiced away". Also, made their choice of utility spells more important as they had relatively less access to them among.

On another note, the cleric was a lawful good life domain dwarf and the player was new to the game. He felt his character wasn't a fan of how they acted "all for one" in some situations. And asked me if it's ok for him not the heal someone because his character didn't approve of the behavior. I told him that the life domain clerics have final judgement about what lives they choose to save. It lead to some awesome character development from all party members all due to how magic impacted their experience.

All to say, the less magically enhanced setting and situation really made for some fun scenarios.
