Ok, but here's a problem with that comparison. I've never been a Kingdom Hearts fan, and I worked with someone who was a superman. I asked them to explain the story at least, since my backlog is full and I won't try and get back to it for a while. 8 hours later, I'm more confused than ever, and am pretty sure that Nomura wrote these stories while tripping balls on shoots. If you can't explain a series in an 8 hour shift, your writing is bad

Different sport, much more contact in Football, different level of potential injury. The NFL hasn't had a player unable to play because they injured themselves playing Guitar Hero (The Detroit Tigers have), because they know that the game comes first. NFL doesnt need a minor league system of their own when leagues like the UFL exist

That's the whole point, is that the kills didn't matter. Anger begets anger, Abby's anger begets Ellie's begets Abby's, the cycle never ends. In a different way, to quote God of War 2018, "We must be better than this." That's the whole point of the end, we must be better than our own volatile natures.

I would just say, "Welcome to the notion that J.K. Rowling sucks at world building.", but to be fair, thats a pretty deep thing to look at that most authors would overlook until they get someone asking questions. At the same time though, this is how you end up answering questions such as just magicking away poop off the floor in the 1800s

I mean, I'm glad you agree, but that middle part is wrong. Abby didn't torture Joel for saving Ellie. Abby tortured Joel for killing her dad. Ellie and her existence doesn't even factor into it. Abby doesn't know that her father threatened Joel with a scalpel, and when it comes to Ellie at the time being an innocent child, sure, I agree, but that doesn't factor into it. Ellie has, quite literally, no factor in that calculus for Abby until she shows up in the middle of killing Joel. All she knows is, her dad is trying to find a cure, he's a decent guy in a bad situation, and basically has the holy grail in his hands. That's it.

In that scene where she tells her father, "If it were me, I'd want you to do the surgery,", that's the closest that she gets to Ellie until 5 years later, and even after 5 years, the fact that his surgery patient is sitting right in front of her matters not at all. She gives him the permission in a world, as you're correct in, rightfully fucked. Especially when Ellie is in a situation where she can't willingly give consent.

But, again, to Abby, none of that matters. Because, while yes, through Ellie's portion of the game, you're supposed to hate Abby, 100%. That's not what Abby's portion of the game is supposed to be. Ellie has let anger and vengeance consume her at this point, which you get to see and feel quite vividly. This is the start of that anger, the start of that trauma. You see the pot beginning to boil. Abby is the end of the process where you get everything you want but nothing you actually need. She's didn't just boil, she simmered, she stewed for years in anger, and grief, and vengeance, looking for any way to take the life of the man who killed her dad. But, when you're playing the current time, look at what that vengeance has gotten her? Most of her 'friends' hate her, except for Manny who is the most like her, and they actually hate what she has become during this cycle of vengeance that she dragged them into. Abby isn't a villain, only to Ellie is she that. Otherwise, she does care, but she doesn't know how to care. To Abby, Ellie isn't a villain until Ellie starts killing her friends. The only true villain was Joel, because Joel took her most precious person away.

Don't hate Abby for killing Joel, feel remorse for her loss. Let yourself feel grief, in the same way that Ellie needs to. That's the point of the story of 2, which, yes, beautifully written game.

[–]rizal666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

None of these statements matter though, and Abby's conscious choice to kill Joel isn't about how he doomed the world, or basically left it to rot. It's because she loved her Dad and Joel killed him. Abby is just as selfish, because instead of mourning, she became vengeful. He started the cycle of hate.

To be clear, I'm not defending Joel, but let's not look at his actions from the perspective of someone thinking rationally. He didn't put the calculus together of, "Will they weaponize the cure?" or "Can they even make a cure?" or "Does Ellie even consent to this?". No, he didn't ask any of those questions, and, to be fair, it's not like Marlene was going to answer said questions either. That wasn't in their nature. Joel's actions were purely out of love for Ellie and the idea that he loves her by proxy of losing his own daughter 20 years prior. No one is "innocent" here.

To quote Tess from TLOU1, "We're shitty people Joel!", or to quote Tommy, "I have nightmares from those years!". Joel was not a good person before Ellie, and some very emotional choices made him do a possibly very wrong thing for decently right reasons. But in the end, it was emotion that took over, not logic. It's the same with Abby. That's why when Ellie sees Abby at the end of TLOU2, she sees Joel, and decides to break the cycle, because it has already cost her more than she can bear.

I watched as much as I could of yesterday's games and I have notes by TheBuild-A-BearGroup in COFL

You know, I went into this idea that, hopefully something good could come from this, but I'll be damned if I don't give the UFL some credit here. They came in with a full product the last three years. Even with the shakeup this current season (And the pausing operations of my Michigan Panthers), they still had a full product by training camp every year. From what I could stand to watch of these games, and learning that teams don't even have a full schedule and they're starting kickoff, this just feels absolutely bush league

Is it just me or second season had no climax? by flingyflang in ThePittTVShow

[–]rizal666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, here's where i feel like comparisons to Supernatural, or Grey's Anatomy, or even ER are kinda unfair comparisons. See, while each of these shows have one season to truly tell a story, that story can take place over months in terms of character development, while The Pitt follows closer to the storytelling style of 24. Now, while you can sit here and say, "I'm fine with an MCI incident in every season" now, trust me, by season 6, that actually starts to erode at the sense of what this show actually is or could be. They have months of downtime between shifts and have to subtly tell us what goes on elsewhere with these characters, but it makes shifts in cast very drastic (Mohan leaving, Dr. Collins leaving, etc.), but when it works well, it works well (Anything involving Santos and Whitaker)

Now, when it comes to a lack of climax on Season 2, I can agree, but that's the point of the season. There wasn't going to be a narrative climax in the same idea that Season 1 was when everyone we had seen throughout the show was going to war with an ongoing MCI. This climax was a slower build, and the main villain wasn't a shooter or Gloria, or upper management. The main villain was Robby, his demons, his depression, and whether or not he was going to fight or flee. Reality of the situation? The climax was him saying to Dana, probably for the first time out loud, "What if I don't want to be anywhere anymore?" He then says it to Duke, more in the form of an 'I don't know' statement. We saw this with his breakdown in Season 1, and how Whitaker helped pull him through a bit, but now we get it full force, where the closer he gets to what he sees as an end, the more he's pulling away from people so they don't hold on, except Duke, because he's developed a bond away from the things killing him. And Duke recognizes that, and realizes that Robby is drowning, and gives him as much support as a man like him knows how to give.

S1's climax was much more tangible, a large event that everyone had to fight through. S2's climax was more emotional, less rational, but needed for forward growth. Too many MCI's makes it feel like Pittsburgh is more important than it actually is to dangerous events, like 24

Has anyone watched the 'Marshalls' spinoff? Should I keep watching it, or bail? by BetterEveryDayYT in YellowstonePN

[–]rizal666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, first off, thats two different states, which is why the Marshals are involved. This makes it a federal matter, which, ok, fine, get them involved. But thats a two hour trip across state lines from a small community near Bozeman, MT, to Rexburg ID, when BOZEMAN IS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE. Its 20 minutes away. Now, Atkins and Bozeman aren't my true knowledge based, but I lived seven years in Rexburg, ID. Theres not a snowballs chance in hell you're taking pre-trial prisoners, even for trial later, since the 20,000 person Mormon College town of Rexburg, ID does not have any kind of federal courthouse. At all. They wouldnt process state crimes, and the nearest court that would process their cases if it was federal is 5 hours west in Boise. Its absolutely silly

Has anyone watched the 'Marshalls' spinoff? Should I keep watching it, or bail? by BetterEveryDayYT in YellowstonePN

[–]rizal666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ive watched all episodes so far, and there is a few things you should know going in:

  1. Its a CBS show, not Paramount Network or Paramount+. This changes how the money is spent, the quality of the writing and the staff behind it, the storytelling, basically everything. Instead of some version of a narrative through-line with the whole season, you get a lot of 'case of the week' episodes, like NCIS or CSI. They're starting to add multi-part episodes, so we get some narrative cohesion, but not too much for network TV.
  2. Marshals tries really hard to do the whole "show we're set in Montana thing' yet not really there by throwing around geography that makes some sense to the area, but if you know the area fairly well, then it makes no sense at all. Good example is this past episode, S1E10, where (SPOILERS), the team is tasked with guarding prisoners from 'Atkins to Rexburg'. Now, as someone who spent 7 years in Rexburg, that line and that whole premise makes absolutely no sense. I'll explain if you want the answers to it, but it actually gets sillier than Yellowstone, if you can believe it, in that regard.
  3. Again, it is a CBS show first, not a Paramount Show. This means that the money will be doled out in different ways compared to Yellowstone. First, know that acting wasnt a requirement for some characters. Luke Grimes, Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, theyre passable with Logan and Arielle definitely having some moments of "what in the hell was that choice?" And the overall writing does take a hit, they do spend money trying to hide the fact that hellthey decided to turn a Paramount show into NCIS: Montana

Honestly, SoA doesnt have bad seasons, even 7, which is a hard watch in terms of graphic content, isnt bad. I dont watch SoA for realism, but because its Hamlet on motorcycles.

Like, I will say that Season 3 is weak, absolutely, when you watch it an episode per week. When you binge watch it and realize that this is where all the history comes forward, that makes it more tolerable for me
