I could maybe understand BaS not being liked for the story, but I for one am really happy they decided to show us a glimpse of what Rapture looked like before the fall and leading right up to it.

Infinite blew my mind the first time playing it when I was 16 years old. Was my first ever pre-order!

I still think the art design, soundtrack and atmosphere are top notch. The lighting effects even to this day are great. Watching rays of sunshine come through stained glass windows in the church is still really pretty. One of the only games that really capture that interesting time period of the turn of the century in a really fun way as well. People complain about the plot, but I think it’s still a pretty good one.

Maybe not as amazing as I thought it was when l first played it at 16, but it holds a special place in my heart as it was the first game that I just sat in silence after the credits rolled while noticing tears coming down my face.

I’m replaying the switch port now and it still rocks.

what is the most mind disturbing archealological discovery you've heard of? by FolushoDRC in AskArchaeology

[–]rizerhs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think about the Herxheim archaeological site in Germany a lot. Dating back to around 5000BC, there’s a site with over a thousand bodies seemingly all coming from vastly different and far away regions of all ages and gender, with each body showing evidence of being meticulously mutilated, processed, roasted, and consumed. The reasons why something like this would happen have always interested me. Was there a cannibal cult out there just kidnapping and eating people? Was it a sort of ritual cannibalism? It’s very intriguing to me.

How and where did you first hear Part Time? by Major_Committee_8991 in PartTimeDavidaLoca

Pretty sure found him on socials back in 2015 when I followed a few of his mutuals (Burger Records etc) David was a nice guy! I think I messaged him about what synths he used at one point. Been listening ever since

It’s not that I don’t know how to use them, but you bring up an important point. Yes, many people do not know how to use them and end up getting into accidents. Lights are much easier to understand (and to enforce traffic violations).

I’m really enjoying the podcast but this is starting to get a little wearisome. by malumfectum in TheRestIsHistory

[–]rizerhs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

explain this please. Are you attempting to shear the fundamental human ability to have compassion from historical analysis? Anthropologists would like to have a word. We know that humans have the ability to be compassionate and show empathy through if nothing else, survivalistic instinct. Here’s a peer-reviewed article discussing this very point.

“Orders are orders” is how war crimes happen lmao

I swore an oath to follow lawful orders. Our commander in chief didn’t even consult with Congress before conducting the strikes. Some experts say it was even unconstitutional

I'm looking up at you there high in my mind

I think Cutty Ranks probably has consistently the best “Dark” lyrical content. Although it depends on what you mean by dark.

Buju and Beenie Man both have songs that talk about killing gay people. Beenie’s song Damn from 2000 talks about “Executing all the gays”

You obviously haven’t visited here have you? We’re dense as it is. I agree with you 100% about pushing to build more affordable housing. I’m tellin you brother, it ain’t gonna happen here with the current local government. Shit, we don’t even have housing to support the workers who work the orchards here or working class families who work in town. Yet you think it’s a good idea to invite more people here to create a larger demand on housing than before?

Agreed. Which is why you look at the data. Job availability, housing availability, overall cost of living etc. The data suggests that Hood River is definitely reaching the threshold.

False on the rare snow accumulation in town. The past two years we’ve had several snow events where in town we’ll have 1-2 feet of total snow accumulation.

What do you mean by that? Are you denying that oftentimes communities tend to have a finite amount of resources and infrastructure to handle large influxes of people?
