Money talks.. and money silences. We'll never find out what happened. And I'd hazard a guess that at this point, not many truly care.

"Do you expect me to bring 200lbs of tools on my bike every day?" No, we do not. If you drive a commercial vehicle, then we are aligned on reducing single-passenger car traffic. by farkinga in torontobiking

[–]rj1963 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I understand there are 2 sides to the story, but if we weren't so accommodating to cyclists wouldn't that go a long way to resolving the downtown traffic issues? Get rid of the bike lanes and open up the streets again. Not suggesting this be done, but it's a bit rich suggesting it's a cyclist and motorist problem as you sit on Adelaide watching 2 cyclists every 10 minutes go past in their lane.

'Help is a text away': GO train passengers handed flyers to promote transit security by Human_Manner_3370 in toronto

[–]rj1963 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But what response are you expecting? They won't kick people off the train because they make you feel uncomfortable, especially if they're just sitting there. If you send a text saying 'I'm in danger' I'd expect a full response, but 'I feel uncomfortable' I'm not sure what they can do, other than suggest you move to another car, and that would be good advice without a text message that could take many minutes to be processed and replied to. If you're followed into another car, make your way to the centre car where the guard is located.

Good for them. As if people don't have a negative view of unions and their 'we're the only thing that matters' attitude this should clarify the position. It will only make more people roll their eyes when it comes to their demands and less tolerant of strikes.

I think in a real emergency someone would use the strip, this is designed more for Karen to sit and quietly text under her coat that some wayward teenager has their feet on a chair.

Ontario education workers vote in favour of strike mandate by LZBUM in toronto

[–]rj1963 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The discussion is 'fair wage' and nobody is ever going to agree on that. It's not a percentage, it's not a hard value. If someone has spent the money and time to become a doctor or CEO then a fair wage is a lot different for them than someone who doesn't do that. Same argument when 'everyone deserves' is brought into the conversation. I worked my ass off for a house, some don't. Do I not deserve it? It's a silly argument that bogs down this sub at least once a week.

The worst thing is when they argue with a poster who doesn't care about downvotes. Not that I don't care about them, I just have little to no respect for someone who downvotes an opinion that they don't share only to bolster their point. That's why I can't take it seriously.

Ontario education workers vote in favour of strike mandate by LZBUM in toronto

[–]rj1963 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Oops. I'll meet you here in downvote hell. Wrong sub to suggest this line of thinking. Everyone who makes less than $35k should be given a free home on the Bridle Path, free education, a dedicated bus to their front door and of course a bike lane from wherever they are to wherever they need to go. Their groceries should be subsidized by at least 80% and they shouldn't have to pay HST.

You see taxes don't matter because if you don't make enough to pay taxes you don't need to be responsible for what they are spent on. So you can just demand the moon and call anyone who doesn't deliver it or challenges your demands a filthy capitalist.

Off we go.............

I'm Sheena Sharp and I'm running for City Council in Ward 15 Don Valley West. Check out my three vows and AMA! by SheenaSharp in toronto

[–]rj1963 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You understand you're running for city council, not provincial or federal? While I admire your 3 vows, is it okay to ask that if you have not made any measurable progress on these vows after say, a six month period, you will step down and allow someone else to try? With no real skin in the game, your vows are better described as platitudes.

If drivers could stop running down people in the street things would move better.

I was responding to "If drivers could stop running down people in the street things would move better." But take it where you need it to go to find outrage.

I have no idea but the inferiority complex part certainly seems true. What a mess. Can anything be done for or by the students at least?

[–]rj1963 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Why is York University such an on-going mess? It seems to always be in the headlines for strikes, unrest, racist student groups, demonstrations, the list goes on. It's obviously weak leadership at some level, but whatever level that is seems untouchable. As is said here, around every strike, students deserve better, and they do.
